The rosters for the Rising Stars Challenge were recently announced and I’m really digging the new format.

Interesting to note that Mclemore USA squad was left off in favor of KCP (same scoring, inferior percentages and not the same level of a defender in my opinion) and Zach Lavine (who obviously brings other things to the table by leaving gravity back home when he steps on the court).

Was wondering if anybody has any thoughts, I’m particularly interested in any insight on the world team and if there are any world team potential snubs I missed.

I’m actually surprised Ben McLemore didn’t make it.

      I agree ( Surprise )

      KCP got in at…

      11.6 ppg 3.1 rpg 1.1 apg on 38.9% FG 34% 3 PT and 70% FT with a -0.5 +/-

      Ben missed the cut at…

      11.8 ppg 3.1 rpg 1.5 apg on 45.5% FG 35.4% 3 PT and 83.3% FT with a +1.7 +/-

He was an efficiency nightmare as a rookie, but he’s improved drastically since last year, and actually has the 2nd higest +/- rating of all the American born rookies and sophomores, behind only Andre Roberson.

The world team has the advantage inside, whereas, I like the backcourt of the US team more.

Looking a great match up. Pity Jabari isn’t in there but seeing Wiggins and Giannis in tandem will be interesting.

The world team is huge.  That probably isn’t a great thing in an All-star game, as it figures to be a transition shoot-out, but the size disparity is hilarious.  The World team has five bigs, one combo-forward, two big wings and two point guards, while the U.S. team has six guards and only three big men.  The game may come down to whether the World team takes the game seriously and exploits its size advantage.

Who would you sub him in for? They already have too much big men, and Adams, Dieng, Gobert and Olynyk all deserve the spot over Len in my opinion.

I really like the concept of the world vs usa team this year. I reckon it could be the one to keep.

It’s like the Nike Hoops Summit – Part II

No point guessing who will win, but Greek Freak is my MVP candidate.

As a truelly global basketball fan, I’m excited the reaction this thread got. Mclemore is a hard worker and a good dude by all accounts from Sacramento media and players, and I hope he uses this as a chip on his shoulder as he continues to improve.

Found this list (below) to be interesting, I think I see a trend of the international young players the last few years having a really bringing something fresh. I remember AK47 getting triple doubles, and Zyndras and Yao bringing soft touch for their size, but as a unit I feel some, thing different overall than what Beno Udrih and Gordon Giricek brought to the table, it’s a little hard to describe.

46 international players have participated in a NBA All-Star Rookie Game. This is the full list ordered alphabetically

As a frenchman,so happy for Rudy Gobert, one of the most hyped player over there. I’ve rarely seen such unanimous reactions about a player here.

The thought of a frontcourt of Adams and Gobert with the Greek Freak at SF gives the World Team insane size. Everytime I see Giannis listed at 6ft 11ins, I wonder just how big he will end up, even if he doesn’t grow anymore, he could add 20lbs of muscle and not lose any speed.

throw in wiggins (6-8) at SG and exum (6-6) at PG and that is a huge lineup. I think it will be an interesting game which is all you can really ask for from the rising stars challenge.

The only thing I’d want to see different is to have an equal numbers of rookies as sophomores on each team (5 and 5). With this you could add McDaniels and Smart to the USA team and take out two of Burke, KCP, or Muhammed. And for the world team you could add Nurkic and take out someone like Adams. It’s not like these rookies are any less of players than the sophomores they’re replacing.

on a side note, KJ would be fun to watch in an all-star game.

Seeing the lack of big men for the USA, I would have definitely included Tariq Black. He has been putting up nice numbers this year despite bouncing around a bit. I also though Hardaway Jr. would make it who, despite his mediocre numbers this year, is playing in New York after all.
