JNixonParticipantHow does this change Duke? Do any of you guys like his game? Comments

gatorheelsParticipantAll I know is Duke started playing a lot better when Elliot was on the floor more. I thought he was pretty impressive as a freshman. I imagine he wanted to transfer so he can shine more. At Memphis he will be their best player more than likely. I do think it hurts Duke a little but the BlueDevils have a lot of talent still.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantHe transfered because his mom is sick. She is fighting death and he wants to be closer to home. Sometimes life comes before basektball. He and his family are in my prayers.

gatorheelsParticipantOh yeah I forgot someone in his family was sick……I wish Elliot the best. That is why he transfered. Still he will definitely shine more at Memphis.

The8thDeadlySinParticipantThats true. He will be a player unless the new coach has a bad system, which i dont see. Will definatly be a go to guy there.

JNixonParticipantHe wont have to sit out right? Because if he does he wont be the no.1 option. Not if Joe Jackson goes there, like expected. But I Williams will be a solid player and a defensive stopper for Memphis

The8thDeadlySinParticipantNo. Duke has enough class to release the guy because of his situation.

JNixonParticipantIts the NCAA’s call on if he has to sit out

The8thDeadlySinParticipantThe school has to release him. The NCAA can overrule but didnt have to.

no1ParticipantLike alot of talented players at duke they kinda get held back by the style of coach k. I think Elliot is a good talent and should do well in Memphis, he was an All American in high school.

Knicksboy34ParticipantAs A Duke fan, we need to go after Lance Stephenson….

D7H7NParticipantDuke is in trouble now, only 2 quality guards on that rotation; Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith

Da1potParticipantRemember the name Latavious Williams. He has the chance to make a big impact at Memphis next year. Elliot Williams transferring to Memphis seriously impacts Duke as they are really short on guards now. They really only have Scheyer and Nolan Smith as their only guards with none coming until 2011 with Andre Dawkins, Seth Curry(transferring from Liberty) and Joshua Hairston. Look for Duke to play a lineup next year that likely looks like this
pg: Nolan Smith
sg:John Scheyer
sf:Kyle Singler
pf:Ryan Kelly/Mason Plumlee
c:Brian ZoubekThere are no legit guards on the bench and Scheyer will likely have to play some point when Smith sits out or Smith might even have to play the entire game!

The8thDeadlySinParticipantI thought he played a little point last year?

Adi JosephDuke is a really interesting team coming into next year. On one hand, they could be really good if Singler takes a major step while returning to his natural small forward spot. On the other hand, the lack of a true point guard could bury this team.
I expect Scheyer to handle a lot of point guard duties. By the end of the year, he was the team’s starting point guard, with Williams and Henderson on the wings.
Either Zoubek or Thomas will have to step up, though.

WildDudeParticipantI really doubt he will get a medical hardship waiver, Alex Stephenson didn’t get it and his situation is very similar, I don’t know how the NCAA decides because Tyler Smith got the waiver… Makes no sense whatsoever.
Duke will have a off year as Elliot was supposed to start but I give a lot of credit to duke for releasing him rather than saying no…
I really hope things work out for Elliot he seems like a good kid, good student had a 3.7 or so in high school.

Da1potParticipantSheyers not really a point though. I would rather Williams play point and let Scheyer and Singler score the majority of the points. I agree about either Zoubek or Thomas having to step up. Zoubek could possibly get drafted if he has a big season and shows scouts that he has some potential.

Mr.Duke 1426ParticipantNo way knickboy! The prestiges Duke university does not need a head case like stevenson to come in and start trouble. Besides he doesn’t fit in to the system. He will want to shine and coach K being the genius he is would not allow him to just come in and take all the shots (which he expects he will do). Duke does not and will not recruit him.

bluedevils12Participant1st off let me say im sorry about elliot’s situation and that he will always be part of the duke family. now as 4 the team we will really be hurting this year becuz as everyone knows we only have 2 guards on the roster. which means if these guys ever get in foul trouble kyle singler will be bringing the ball up. haha its crazy but true.honestly if i was coach k i would get all the guys who are sort of tweeners at forward and start working on their ball handling drills. ryan kelly that means u. maybe even lance which sounds ridiculous but its gotta happen. even tho we are hurting i think this is the kind of season that will help show why coach k is the best coach out there. if we can still manage to wn 20 games this year he has 2 be coach of the year. as for elliot and memphis i really dont see him becoming a all american 2 be honest. yes he is athletic and he helped us down the stretch but it was mainly defense with elliot. he needs to work on his jump shot and driving skills becuase too many times last season he was left open to brick shots
