TarHeelRavenParticipantAfter a blistering 14-0 start, Duke has dropped 2 straight to unranked opponents. Shockingly, Miami blew out Duke by 16 at Cameron ending Duke’s 41 game home winning streak. Duke’s defense the last couple games has been atrocious, especially the guards. NC state was on fire from three point range hitting a ridiculous 60 percent from for the game, but Duke’s defensive effort against Miami was reminiscent of efforts from a very porous Duke defensive team overall last year. Miami’s guards basically did whatever they wanted all game. Angel Rodriguez was unstoppable with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Duke has gone ice cold from 3 in its past 2 games. Justise Winslow and Tyus Jones have been non-existent recently and the defense from Quinn Cook, Tyus Jones Rasheed Sulaimon and Matt Jones has been below average. Jahlil Okafor while still a dominant low post scorer looks lost on ball screens. Duke plays 4 of the next 5 on the road starting at Louisville on Saturday. Terry Rozier and Chris Jones torched Carolina last Saturday and have a chance to do the same thing to Duke if their defense doesn’t improve drastically. They have tough games at St. John’s at Virginia and at Notre Dame as well. I think Duke is still a good team, but they hype from Okafor, Winslow and Tyus Jones I think was a bit much. Things could get out of control quickly for them if they don’t make adjustments soon.

ncballerTyus Jones has simply not been Tyus Jones. In ACC play he is averaging 5.3 ppg, 3.3 apg, those are just inexcusable for a player of his caliber. It all starts with im.
While Duke’s guards are all explosive offensively and any one of them can go for 20+ on any given night, they simply don’t have the quickness to stay in front of explosive guards. Unless Coach K decides to quit pressuring the ball once it crosses the half court line, they will get torn apart by explosive guards and poor Okafor is left down there by himself. Okafor can’t afford to get into foul trouble, so he is not going to take risks defensively once the guards enter the lane.
I look for Coach K to adjust by saturday, he would not be smart to put that type of on the ball pressure on Rozier and Jones.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantTheir perimeter and transition defenses have been pretty lackluster and Tyus Jones is struggling. I know it sounds simple, but that really is what’s killing them the most. I would love to see Coach K use their bench more too. The ACC is as deep as it’s ever been and they’ll need fresh legs if they want to do damage in March. The big problem is that they really only have 3 big men on the roster which will force them to play a lot of small ball. I really don’t understand why Grayson Allen isn’t playing more either. He’s just as good, if not better than, Matt Jones.

kdtriv01ParticipantLet me begin by saying that I hate Duke! With that being said, Duke is simply going through what UK has gone through the last 3 years or so. He is relying heavily on Freshman, and they are, right now, playing like Freshman. As much as it hurts me to say this, Duke will be fine. The Freshman will mature. Man that was painful.

He is relying heavily on Freshman, and they are, right now, playing like Freshman. As much as it hurts me to say this, Duke will be fine. The Freshman will mature. Man that was painful.
