Flip is a great basketball mind and I’ve always respected his basketball systems. His rebuild year with Minny has been extremely successful so far almost half way through the season. The wins have not been there although it seems like they will be in the future and looks a lot better then when they relied on Love.
Lavine, Muhammad, Wiggins, Dieng, and even Bennett but with a much smaller sample size showed a lot of improvement in a short time and have proved a lot to move up in Saunders system.
He is known as a coach that doesn’t give young guys enough minutes. What I see is a perfect short term system for the young players to grow in and accomplish goals and establish roles.
By having guys like Moe Williams, Kevin Martin, Thaddeus Young, and Nikola Pekovic you have great role playing veterans that understand team basketball and their positions within the team. They are good players as well but let’s face it that is not enough talent to win consistently in the West so they will also get a top 7 pick.
Flip sets these pros as benchmarks and says until you are better then these guys you can’t have their minutes until you play better then them. This forces them to improve which they have done fast. Also the teams natural rotation has some injury prone players along guys to get an opportunity to prove themselves without being put in a position to commit to them.
From watching them this year I feel they have the rebuild mastered which is great news for fans of one of the worst NBA teams historically.

They might have the hardest targets in this up and coming draft if they are drafting 2nd or 3rd who do they pick? Emmanual ? They just paid Rubio, Stanley ? Shabazz and Andrew, and Karl towns could be to high of a pick.

  Or what about trading the pick for a established 4 man? Seems like Thad Young is going to sign somewhere else this offseason since he is a FA. If they feel comfortable with there young wings maybe trade it for a 4 man like Greg Monroe or any other 4 man that could be available via trade.

My only issue with Flip and his rebuild is how is handling contracts. He has shown a good eye for talent in the draft and handled the Love trade like a champ. But, Pek and Rubio can’t stay on the floor and he overpaid them while giving them long contracts. His team is also playing the worst defense I have ever seen. Wide open 3’s or layups for the opposition. I was thinking about this the other day, if their pick falls outside of the top 3, do you try to trade it for Mirotic? Do the Bulls bite or do they need to trade Gibson to pay Butler?
