Hey guys, since the Knicks finally got a first round pick that they actually own and don’t have to trade/swap  I wanted to know what your thoughts are on several prospects that would be available to them possibly in the top 5 range. For me in a perfect world, I would draft Stanley Johnson. Dude is a flat out beast on defense and a high iq  energy guy on offense. I also love Karl-Anthony Towns  potential and given our needs if we land the 2nd or 3rd pick I think we should take him. Enough of my banter  though lol what do you guys think?

If the Knicks get the #1 pick it has to be Okafor. He has the legit size at a position of need for them. He is polished around the basket and seems to be a good passer which would fit perfectly in the triangle. My concerns with him are with rebounding and at the defensive end.

I love Deangelo Russell for the Knicks. He reminds me a little of Damian Lillard since they are both smart scoring guards that can play lead guard in the NBA. He is a big guard which Phil has classically preferred. He also seems to be an underrated athlete much like Harden was coming out. The problem is if he will be a reach at whatever position the Knicks are drafting

Definately Okafor if they have the #1 pick. He has a rare skill set that only Drummond and Cousins possess on the offensive end. My only concern is no matter who they draft, I can’t see any rebuilding taking place as long as Melo is in the mix. Okafor is a great passer, fits in well with the triangle but with Melo in there the offense has no flow and it will never have any flow.

Drummond is definitely not an appropriate comparison for the skillset Okafor possesses offensively. Drummond gets garbage buckets from his athletic ability, Jahlil is an elite post scorer. Drummond doesnt have half the post game Okafor does.

    They should be picking BPA.

Nothing currently in Knicksland is permanent yet every piece is interchangeable. There will be some valuable free agents next year that they will target and they have a Top 5 offensive weapon with Carmelo Anthony along with some potential role players with Shumpert. Acy, Aldrich, Jason Smith. Tim Hardaway Jr. should be replacing J.R. Smith sooner or later and vets like Calderon, Dalembert, Stoudemire, Prigoni, and Bargnani are likely not in the longterm plans.

If it were up to me I would swallow my pride and trade Anthony and depend on my organization to develop a superstar through hard work from scouting, coaching, and management rather then continuing to sign players and use Free Agency to build.

i’d trade Anthony for a 2nd round pick in 2018 if it means getting off the team.

Okafor would be a great pickup for the Knicks. But, what about Mudiay. He is a great passer and scorer. I know that they probably need a big, but Mudiay if he’s available, I think they should pick him up.

Mudiay is a great prospect and could even be BPA when its New Yorks turn to pick butif the Knicks intend on building a team around Melo I don’t like the idea of using a Top 5 pick on a perimeter player or ball oriented player. We already know Anthony will continue to ballstop and slack on the defensive end. He will score and be the main part of the offense. The go to play will always be give Melo the ball and move as long as he is on the team. I’d rather try to pick up a big man that doesn’t need 15-20 shots per game to be effective since they already have a high volume shooter and high volume usage offensive player.

Will they be willing to select a big they can be patient with? Developing Towns, Turner, Looney, Porzingis would take time. Each player seems to be a 2-3 year project albeit with huge upside. Can Melo go through that?

I’m with OhCanada about Melo. I really don’t see any scenario at this point where the Knicks attract a top-flight free agent. I know New York as a city has some appeal, but I think the guys they’d be targeting as major stars (Marc Gasol, LaMarcus Aldridge) are far more concerned with winning than they are with money or being in a big city. To be honest, the only place I could see LaMarcus Aldridge leaving Portland for is Dallas simply because he’s from that area and they are loaded. I don’t see any scenario where Marc Gasol leaves Memphis, seems like the ideal fit for him as a player and person. They could still get Greg Monroe to help Melo and their draft pick but will that really make a difference for a team that already is 28th in defensive efficiency? To sum it up, the Knicks should start rebuilding sooner rather than later. Instead of having Melo waste away on bad New York teams, they should trade him so they can get something of value back for him.

There are teams that would need a scorer like Melo that want to win now or very soon and would be willing to give up a 1st round pick to do so (Lakers are the first team that comes to mind). I’m fairly certain that Melo has a no-trade clause in his contract though so he could basically veto any trade that he doesn’t like which makes it tricky. I could see LA being one of the few places that he’d like to go. Assuming the Lakers have the cap room to take on his contract and end up with a top 5 pick (their pick is top 5 protected but gets sent to Phoenix if it’s outside the top 5), I really could see this trade happening. Knicks would have two 1st round picks (probably top 5 even) to go along with guys like Hardaway, Shumpert, Larkin, Early, and Acy going forward. For the fun of it, let’s assume the Knicks end up with the 1st and 5th picks in this scenario. I’d take Jahlil Okafor with the 1st pick and Stanley Johnson with the 5th pick. Two guys who have done nothing but win their entire careers and have an NBA ready skill too (Okafor-post skills, Johnson-defense).

Obviously a lot would have to go perfect for this scenario to occur, but I don’t think it’s impossible by any means.

The Lakers are no longer in "Win Now" mode…  Melo is almost stuck in NYC and there isn’t really a team out there that A) have enough pieces w/o gutting their core B) Have enough cap space to trade for him…   It’s not worth it for any of the parties involved… Maybe the Blazers by trading Batum… Outside of that I don’t see a realistic place for him to go…  The Knicks won’t get anything of value for him.  $50 Million is what he chose, so he has to accept his fate for about 2-3 years and hopefully Phil can get the right pieces in there…  Lets face it, they’re married at the hip now… LOL

I don’t even think it’s close really… The way he can pass is probably his best attribute…  The Knicks seem high on Tim Jr. (I don’t understand why) so it’s no need to get another wing player…

Maybe they can use E-Man, but like I said in previous threads I’m concern with how good he really is…  I don’t think he’s really explosive like people think, so the jury is still out…

I think Karl Towns is good, but with UK not really relying on his offense like Randle’s last year it’s a risk…  You would need almost a whole year worth of tape on Towns to get what you would from Jahlil in 5 games…  What put Karl over Jahlil is his ability to block shots which is something the Knicks need too…  I still think Jahlil is better than he’s playing defensively because he’s more athletic than Al Jefferson.  He’s also taller and longer than Jefferson…  In fact, his wingspan is bigger than Towns AND Embiid…  I actually think Jahlil is more Duncan/Marc Gasol than Jefferson (IMO, don’t bash me LOL)…

The 2015 Knicks really need a makeover! This 2015 Nba Draft should get them back on track. I really like this Draft. It possess a Wealth of Talented Centers. With that being said, I think that Okafor would be the there best choice when it come to Nba Ready Centers.Meaning that he is a 2year Project at the least. Now if they can swing a second first rounder, then they should take Jerian Grant. He is the Nephew of Horace Grant, and his father palyed in the nba as well.

Jerian Grant would give the knicks something they never had, a dominate guard with a Jumpshot, and Leadership to go along with there other young and talented players. He is also Nba ready, with good potential.

Phil will work out as many guys as he can to try and find the right one. Okafor would seem a safe pick, Mudiay would be a good creator for them and give Melo more spacing in the triangle. Johnson would be the sort of hard working player Phil and Fisher would like.

I figure they try to make at least one big FA signing too.
