ok, i’m just curious, not saying this should or could happen, but having this knowledge that their might be a chance Durant leaves in 2016 to go home and play for the Wizards, how many draft picks do you think OKC could obtain in a trade? I would never trade him, but if there was a chance, how many 1st round picks could they obtain?

I think they would try to get Brad Beal first. If that does not happen then they go for picks and Otto Porter, because I think KD will go back home if he does not win a title before that in OKC, which looks doubtful but you never know.

The Wiz should have enough cap space when KD decides to opt out.  That team with John Wall Durant and Beal would be by far the best backcourt in the NBA today.  I believe that nene’s contract will be up right as Durant would enter free agency.

If the Wiz do end up doing a sign and trade for him I would imagine it would be something similar to what the Cavs got when LBJ left.  A couple future first round picks.   Sign and trades don’t typically get a good return.

The LBJ trade was to suupposedly give him a 6 year deal with him taking less salary and having the opt out in years 5 and 6 it now seems stupid.

The rumours of KD going to Washington have been doing the rounds for a while, if KD did hit Free Agency he’d be the biggest prize since LBJ. Washington would have Nene out of contract then but would Beal would be on his new deal then, I’d guess circa $15 million a year. With Wall and Gortat that gives aprox $43 million on the cap in 2016. If the salary cap hits the projected $80 million in 2016/17 then Washington would have room to offer Durant a max deal and still have decent salary space for the supporting roster. Washington already has a deep veteran bench and if they do get the All Star starters then getting a quality veteran title chasing bench is fairly easy to assemble.

Few people close to him have said it wouldn’t be just basketball for him…. It’s not always love for guys when they go back home…  Some can be a target… Especially in the DMV.

But to your point…   I doubt they would get anything of significance for him if he decides to leave…  I’m sure they would do a sign and trade for a draft pick or 2…  I don’t see OKC as dumb as NYK were with Melo…  Meaning, potentially letting him go for nothing…  Granted it worked for Phil and he stayed, but that’s a stupid business move.

I always looked at KD as the type who would have some loyalty to his team even if it’s a small market. He has a good suporting cast already in OKC so I dont know why he would want to bail.

Has he made comments about possibly leaving or is it just speculation?

If I was a betting man, I doubt he would go…  Truthfully, Westbrook is playing at an MVP level right now…  Just as far as basketball sense it doesn’t really make sense right now…  Maybe things can change next year depending on how far each team goes and the pieces they can add…  What hurt OKC big time is letting Harden go…  That’s was the worst decision of Sam Presti’s career.  Maybe forces KD to realize a small market team can’t put enough talent on the court…
