JM40ParticipantI thought it would be interesting to start a discussion about the history of the NBA draft lottery, specifically by looking at the best picks, worst picks, most infamous (for whatever reason), etc. Here is my observation;
1st Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Anthony Davis
Worst Last 10 Years: Greg Oden
Best Since 1980: Tim Duncan
Most Infamous Pick: Michael Olowokandi (infamous because he seemed to come out of nowhere, and really never lived up to the expectations that warranted taking a flier on him)2nd Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Kevin Durant
Worst Last 10 Years: Hasheem Thabeet
Best Since 1980: Jason Kidd
Most Infamous Pick: Danny Ferry (infamous because…..well, because he’s Danny Ferry)3rd Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: James Harden
Worst Last 10 Years: Adam Morrison
Best Since 1980: Michael Jordan
Most Infamous Pick: Joel Embiid (infamous because he was drafted with so high with so many questions marks about his health and medical status)4th Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Chris Paul
Worst Last 10 Years: Wesley Johnson
Best Since 1980: Dikembe Mutombo
Most Infamous Pick: Eddy Curry (infamous for being drafted so high, but allowing his weight and attitude to keep him from being worth a #4 selection)5th Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Kevin Love
Worst Last 10 Years: Shelden Williams
Best Since 1980: Scottie Pippen
Most Infamous Pick: Nickoloz Tskitishvili (infamous because some GM thought a Euro hooper/ballet dancer was worthy of a top 5 pick)6th Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Damian Lillard
Worst Last 10 Years: Jonny Flynn
Best Since 1980: Orlando Woolridge
Most Infamous Pick: Dajuan Wagner (infamous because one of the greatest HS scorers of all-time never stuck as an NBA player who could create his own shot and consistently hit the jump shot)7th Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Stephen Curry
Worst Last 10 Years: Bismack Biyombo
Best Since 1980: Chris Mullin
Most Infamous Pick: Bobby Hurley (infamous because he is the textbook example of great college player/below average pro prospect, yet he still went #7)8th Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Rudy Gay
Worst Last 10 Years: Joe Alexander
Best Since 1980: Tom Chambers
Most Infamous Pick: Sagana Diop (infamous because this pick was based on size alone. Not skill, not talent, not even potential. Some GM decided you can’t teach size, and took a chance.)9th Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Joakim Noah
Worst Last 10 Years: Ike Diogu
Best Since 1980: Dirk Nowitzki
Most Infamous Pick: Amare Stoudemire (infamous because in most drafts, a HS post prospect with his size and athletic ability would easily be in the mix for #1, but somehow he slid to #9. It illustrates the shift in drafting mentality in recent days to pro-ready versus potential)10th Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Paul George
Worst Last 10 Years: Saer Sene
Best Since 1980: Paul Pierce
Most Infamous Pick: Jimmer Fredette (infamous because Jimmer was college basketball his senior season, and everyone debated back and forth all season whether he warranted a lottery pick)11th Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Klay Thompson
Worst Last 10 Years: Fran Vasquez
Best Since 1980: Reggie Miller
Most Infamous Pick: J.J. Redick (infamous because he was so far from the prototypical NBA SG prospect as an undersized SG with average athletic ability, but there’s no denying the shooting ability)12th Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Thaddeus Young
Worst Last 10 Years: Yaroslov Korolev
Best Since 1980: Kelly Tripucka
Most Infamous Pick: Robert Swift (infamous because this guy went from long range HS post prospect to borderline convict overnight. Actually it’s pretty sad what happened to this guy in the end)13th Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: Kelly Olynyk
Worst Last 10 Years: Julian Wright
Best Since 1980: Kobe Bryant
Most Infamous Pick: Sebastian Telfair (infamous because he was essentially a HS legend, but size and the ability to own a position means something in the league and he slid almost out of the lottery because of that)14th Pick-
Best Last 10 Years: John Henson
Worst Last 10 Years: Rashad McCants
Best Since 1980: Clyde Drexler
Most Infamous Pick: Shabazz Muhammad (infamous because he was the consensus #1 pick since he was in middle school, only to have his weaknesses exploited as college freshman to the point he almost fell out of the lottery. Proves the point that super-early draft predictions, while enjoyable to do, can be way off down the line)0 - Posted on: Tue, 12/23/2014 - 7:20am #960066

Jr. ROXASParticipantHow bout Sam Bowie for most infamous second pick?? Haha cus he’s obviously more famous than Danny Ferry for being infamously drafted before Jordan.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantDajuan Wagner’s career was unfortunately cut short by injuries and some serious health issues. I have no doubt he would have had a long and successful career if he reremained healthy. Dude could just flat out score.

cabbycabParticipantDude, this is yeoman’s work. Nice job.
Just FYI, Bobby Hurley nearly died from a car crash and was never able to rehab back, but truthfully he was awful at this level before his accident. Waay too small and couldn’t shoot to save his job.

Lotto StudParticipantMarvin Williams could warrant infamous consideration as well as Martell Webster.

The Scare Crow RisesParticipantDude hadn’t really done anything to warrant a name drop on a list like this IMO…
I really appreciate the time and effort put into this post BUT take that name off the list and you’ve got a strong point across the board…
Again good job…Just hate the Olynyk name drop(coming from an Olynyk fan)
