KingPapasParticipantCan AD really win MVP if his team doesnt make the playfoffs? I think he deserves it and all of the Pelicans front office should be fired for contructing such a poor team around him. They have good players, just not good pieces to fit around such a transcendent talent. I think rondo throwing Lods to him would have been beautiful to watch.

Lotto StudParticipantThe bench is the biggest problem. There is no relief for the production of the core. Jrue Holiday became a highway robbery for the Pelicans. One if not the biggest steals coming in off an All-Star season. Asik gives Davis the range to do him defensively as a weakside shot-blocker. I consider those three players the heart and soul of the franchise. Anything else is just a chip off the old block.
Gordon should be shipped for some type of return. They aren’t getting the max out of him. As I’ve stated before, I actually believe the system runs smoother with Holiday sliding off the ball. His relaxed game is a great indicator of being a 2 that pick and chooses his spots to get off easier shots more efficiently than Evans. For those who will disagree. I ask of you to tell me, who makes the defense play honest at the 2, Holiday or Evans?

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantNo. The unwritten rule is that you can’t win the MVP unless you play on a championship contender. Every MVP since the 1980s has fit this criteria. In 2006 Kobe averaged over 35 ppg, led a Lakers team that started smush parker, kwame brown and Luke Walton to 45 wins and a playoff birth and still finished 4th in the voting. Jordan and lebron missed out on some too early in their careers cause they were on mediocre teams. Its just how it is. AD will get there someday but he won’t really be in the conversation this year.

Mr. HookShotParticipantDefinite no… although you can also be very valuable for a team winning 20 games by putting up big stats and helping the guys around you play better, the game is still about winning. I believe that the player that somehow contributes most to a team actually winning games, helping his teammates overperform and competing for the championship should win the MVP trophy. If Davis catapults his team in the playoffs as a 5th – 6th seed with a realistic chance of advancing to the next round(s) I see him as a viable option for MVP (which I don’t think the Pelicans are capable off). Right now, I see five good options for MVP: Wall and LeBron in the East (perhaps Lowry), and Curry, Gasol and Harden in the West (with Lillard being a darkhorse).

machu46ParticipantBasketball is the one sport where one individual player has a huge impact on winning and losing. With the Pelicans not being a playoff team, much less a contender, I don’t see how Davis wins MVP.
For me, it’s some order of Harden, Curry, Gasol, and LeBron right now, and Westbrook would have a chance once he gets some more games under his belt because he is playing incredible basketball right now.

nath09ParticipantThe award isn’t called the Best in the League award it’s called the Most Valuable Player.
As it is a team sport the purpose of the game is to win the championship.
You can be by far the best player in the league but if your team is horrible your effort and ability has little value to the sport’s goal. Therfore you are not the Most Valuable Player in that season.
So in regards to the opening point; you would have to say the answer is no he can’t win if they don’t make the playoffs.
