Rumors are flying about Dion Waiters now being available for a rim protector. The Cavaliers are now interested in Kosta Koufos, whom is currently averaging under 14mpg in Memphis.

My question to those outside of Cleveland/Ohio is what kind of value can Dion currently fetch in a swap for a big guy that can protect the rim? The Timofey Mozgov rumor has been beaten to death, and I have a hard time seeing a first place team (Memphis) messing with their team chemistry for a chemistry killer in Waiters. I feel all of us Ohioans are pretty biased towards Dion, believing his value should return equal value in name and potential. But what trades are out there worth looking at if youre Cleveland seeking that missing piece in a big? Is Dion worth the trouble keeping in Cleveland? Would you want Dion on your team, and what would you give up for him? Hoping to get some real input from everyone.

He doesn’t play winning basketball. Thats been exposed during this early season.

He settles for too many long twos and plays poor defense.

I honestly wouldn’t give up anything for him. Blatt values Delle ( who’s hurt now) and Joe Harris in crunch time over Waiters, that right there speaks volumes.

The only other one I could think of that could possibly work is Waiters for Biyombo and Neal. Biyombo isn’t polished but still has tremendous upside on the defensive side. He could end up being like Birdman just flying around trying to block shots. Also, with Neal you get a more veteran, team playing guy off the bench. It still doesn’t seem to be equal value, but Cleveland is selling low. Charlotte could use some more offense from the wing, so Waiters could be a good fit there.

With the NBA being so loaded at the SG position, I find New York and Memphis to be the best landing spots for him. With the way the Grizzlies have been playing, I don’t think they would want to give up anybody that has been contributing, which applies to their entire rotation practically. Tim Hardaway Jr has been struggling and this roster in New York is not working at all as they have one of the worst records in the NBA, despite their talents. Possibly one involving Hardaway and Shumpert or Samuel Dalembert could go through.

waiters is trying to find his role on a loaded offensive team as the 4th or fifth option… doesn’t work too well for him as a starter, and can’t get warmed up riding the 2nd unit… He would be more effective attacking and kicking it out when he hits the court if its not there instead of forcing or setlling too catch and shoot cold ( like the coach seems to be wanting him to do ).

waiters would be better served running the point on the 2nd unit on this roster also imo…

a starting line up up irving, waiters, james, love and thompson will eventually prove to be the best starting line up down the stretch. with varejao, marion and jones being the key reserves…leaving miller, dellevedova, and others at the end of the rotation or out of it.

waiters value is low right now though…real low.

I like the Dalambert idea but would the Cavs give up a young prospect for a guy who is well into his 30’s. Also how many minutes would the rim protector see around K-Love,Thompson and Varejao.

I wonder if a veteran FA like Jermaine O’Neal, Okafor (if he was fit after his injury issues) might be an option.

If Waiters is on the block then I’d guess the Cavs would look to get the best guy they could from a none contender.

Also with Tyler Zeller playing reasonably for Boston do they regret trading him so quickly and not getting something in return. I know the deal had to be done to create room to resign a certain Free Agent.

Rumours that Big Z will lace up his size 20 odd trainers are still unfounded.

If Griffin didn’t get fleeced into giving up 3 1’s (Sergi, Zeller and a future first) in the Jack trade then Zeller could have sovled all of these problems of a competent 3rd/2nd big who could chew gum and run or jump at the same time.

Or if Grant didn’t give away a potentialfirst for a Luol rental. It was bad because it let Chicago out of the tax.

Stock might be rising, Waiters starting to fill it up in this first half.

I’ll just say that if somebody can’t enjoy the success or be happy playing with Kyrie, Lebron and K Love…. I don’t want him on my team.

How about the performance tonight against the nets. Trade him for mason plumlee. Get a young rim protector who is wasting away on Brooklyn’s bench

I love how everyone shat on Dion and the young man drops 26pts and dishes out 4 assists. He’s got a ton of talent, just needs to  COMPLETELY give in and be okay coming off the bench

He might get traded for a very good interior player, but not for some of the players many speculate to be simlar value such as plumlee…that is laughable.

Waiters is still trying to find his place on the team as the 4th or 5th scoring option which is not something any of us would be cool with if we were the 1st or 2nd scoring option on every other team we’ve ever played on from JV to the pros.

He is capable of putting up huge numbers when he attacks…the expectation of the coach to have him catch and shoot in this offense is a detriment to the team and waiters, but he does get  loose when irving is strugling just like he did against the nets leading the team and winning the game in the 2nd half.

The Cavs would be better off sending Dion to the Canton Charge than trading him to Memphis for Koufus! If as many say he is, he’s a team killer then send him to the D League and tell him if he dribbles into a long two you are going to add two games to his stint down there.

Now Courtney Lee and Koufus or C.Lee and Mosgov and send Koufus back to the Nuggets is a good deal I would take.

And I’m writing this after Dion’s second great game this week.

yeah the truth is waiters has been outshined by irving since he got drafted 4th which noone expected in cleveland to happen with drummond on the board still… but as it stands waiters is a darn good player with a lot of scrutiny being shoveled at him this season for a slow start on a new team with new coaches and a real system besides the garbage once mike brown and byron scott put out there. Meanwhile not being asked to do what he does best; attack and score, at least not until the rumors of him being traded started flying and Blatt layed off the role player dion who was being limitted to simply catch and pass and if all else fails shoot or drive and dish since his finish rate is’nt as good as irving…but lets face it,not many guards posess the wizardry that Kyrie has.Waiters is much stronger and fully capable of turning it up several notches at any moment.

Hopefully we will see more of this from him instead of watching him waste his abilty being asked to play outside of what he does best.

However, waiters if considered a team killer should be traded if thats not good enough becuase his one man show theatrics are what he does best. The shot selection has gotten better and the effort on defense is definitely improved with room for more I think they give him more time unless a team is offerring a can’t miss player with the same or better projected …

Mozgov and Koufos "were" on the cavs radar at some point in the past, but never was waiters name linkied to those players legitimately.

I would expect the cavs will not get back enough players or a good enough player for waiters this yr to justify moving him at all, even if his minutes continue to be limmited and his shooting woes continue, esp if he can bring clutch scoring by attacking and playing better d like he has for the last week since the b.s. started rolling about him slumping.

most teams have a good player like that with shooting issues from time to time, but rarely does it equate to trades though up unless you are under a microscope playing on a loaded contender.
