The Celtics desperately need a 2nd star and the Knicks desperately need to tank and rebuild. With the abundance of young talent (and future cap space) the Celtics have, I could see them having the assets to acquire Carmelo Anthony, which the Knicks should oblige.

With Rondo, Melo and a few of their veteran players, the Celtics would be in position to become players again in the Eastern Conference. If they are able to wrestle a Marc Gasol away from the Grizzlies via cap space, they could even turn themselves in contenders pretty quickly. If not him, they might even be able to target an Al Horford and/or Paul Millsap from a middling team interested in rebuilding. With 13 picks in the next 4 seasons, that remains a distinct possibility even after a Melo trade.

From the Knicks perspective, they could jumpstart a rebuilding process and compensate for their lack of picks over the next few years. They clearly won’t have the means to build around Melo, so why not start over? With the possibility of drafting a Jahlil Okafor this year and adding Marcus Smart, Jared Sullinger and a 2015 pick from a Melo trade, they could instantly position themselves as one of the best young teams in the league.

    Thoughts?

You have it wrong and the other way around, Knicks should get Rondo and Melo stays there. Problem is the Knicks dont have enough assets to pull this thru.

The triangle would handcuff Rajon Rondo in the same way it did Gary Payton who was still considered an elite PG when he signed with the Lakers way back when. The triangle is specifically designed to be run for teams that lack classic PGs, which is why scoring guys like Derek Fisher/Brian Shaw and combo guards like Ron Harper/Jamal Crawford have been featured in it in the past. Add Rondo’s inconsistent jumper to the equation and it all but eliminates him as a viable candidate.

I, too, agree they shouldn’t be on the same team. Rondo is a good guy for a modern team who moves the ball, does a lot of transition, and has elite shooters. Carmelo is a great guy for the triangle offense because Phil has made it work for ball-stoppers like Kobe and Jordan. For sentimental reasons, I’d like to see Jimmer run the Knicks offense.

I see a thread titled “Knicks-Celtics trade” and expect to perhaps see some piece of news I may have missed and instead am subjected to this garbage.

Makes sense. Celtics have 10  1st round picks over the next 4 to 5 years. The Celtics dont need picks they have plenty. They need a Melo so both teams benefit. Its not a crazy deal at all.

Melo would not fly in Boston.  No offense to him.  Great player.  Definately not a Celtic.

…says the guy who supports a franchise that has had enigma’s like Antawn Walker, Ricky Davis, and Rasheed Wallace. Not sure what you were trying to get at but if sounded like a knock on Melo, which is ridiculous when you consider ALL of the Celtics history.
