OhCanada-ParticipantAlthough he has been struggling with his jumpshot this year he is a lottery sleeper this year and will likely be drafted in the lottery if his shot starts falling. He was decent from longrange last season but has started this season very slow. Reminds me of watching Trevor Booker play. Extremely active, athletic, and strong.
Booker is a good comparison but Martin also has more gaurd skills which are currently on an inconsistant display. His length is limited as his wingspan is less then average for an NBA PF so proving he can stretch the floor and nail jumpshot, dribble and move well without the ball will be very important for him. He also needs to work on his post moves. He has such a strong lowerbody that if his post moves were refine with the quickness he also has he would be a huge headache to gaurd for players and for coaches.
Dont be surprised if he sneaks into the lotto this year. Even if he is projected as a late 1st befire the draft this kid will impress during combine and team workouts.

Pistol Pete. The PelicanParticipantI wish this were true but I don’t think so. Like I said on this website before I know Jarell personally, and he just still has a ton of growth to go. This is only his 5th full year playing basketball, he’s stuck in between position, he fancies himself a small forward, but in the pros they may want him to be a 4 and he has a below average wingspan. He will always work hard but he’s still learning. Some background info, he played in class B high school basketball in Lousiana, that’s the 2nd lowest level of basketball in Louisiana. For comparison, Big Baby, Tasmin Mitchell, Brandon Bass and Tyrus Thomas played in 5A, Marcus Thornton played in 4A. I played class B high school, I’m 5’7 and I played in a 3 guard set guarding the small forward position. I say that to say by size alone, Jarell had a tremendous advantage. He was a good athlete coming from, and LSU will always improve your athleticism, and for him it has. He’s not Wiggins but he’s probably a Thaddeus Young level athlete. (That’s definitely not bad) He can make three’s but he’s not really a 3 point shooter.
I just feel like he has a ton of things working against him for today’s NBA. He also sometimes have some of the wrong people from the neighborhood telling him things. I hope he stays at least one more year, to play with Ben Simmons and show he can blend it on the team and he can contintue to grow as a player. Grow as an individual and team player, and find a niche to work in the NBA. But I really hope he can be a lottery pick, when someone makes it from Baton Rouge, we all support them.

OhCanada-ParticipantYou dont seem too confident he will succeed. I think he will be fine.He doesnt have to score 20-ppg and play 35-mpg to have a good NBA career. If he thinks hes a SF thats a bit alarming. He better turn some of that baby fat into muscle and drop his weight and start hitting his jumpshots. As far as being a tweener I agree but I dont think its necassarily a bad thing. As long as he can gaurd both positions and consistantly hits shots he can play both positions. Similar to Aaron Gordon.

Pistol Pete. The PelicanParticipantI think he can succeed but I just don’t think he needs to come out this year or next. He still has some things on and off of the court that he needs to take care of. Speaking of the body, LSU is trying to help him with that. He’s still growing into it. When he was 14, he was a 6’3" freshman wide receiver at Glen Oaks, then he transferred schools when he moved and grew 6 inches over the summer, then he had no choice but to play basketball. It’s like the weight just came with the height, he was a stick figure.

GBeeParticipanthe looks like a tweener all the way and not the good type. big body, but his length kinda stinks for a 4. ball skills aren’t good enough for a 3 and his shot is meh. i find his teammate jordan mickey a much more intriguing prospect. long arms, good quickness for a 4, playmaking ability defensively with his shot blocking and he’s already one of the better mid-range shooting bigs in the country.
