Jahlil Okafor VS Joel Embiid

 Man is this tough… Assuming he’s healthy I’m still going with Embiid by a small, small margin. I just think his athleticism and fluidity for only playing basketball a couple years is amazing. But Okafor is great too

Karl-Towns has really developed nicely the past year, with especially the international games with the Dominican helping his thoughness. He used to be a little soft, not willing to bang under the basket, but as also shown at Kentucky he brings the full package, both offensivelly as well as defensively. 

All three (Okafor, Karl-Towns, Embiid) have a extremely bright future. Okafore is the second coming of Cousins, a big low post force that lacks some lateral quickness to effectively defend the rim. Embiid has to show he can come back from his injuries. For me, Karl-Towns is the most intruiging prospect and he can really turn into a unique player. Thinking of it right now, I cannot think of one NBA-player who brings a similar game as he does.

Okafor is not a great athlete and I don’t think he has the physical tools to be ever be even an average defender in the NBA. Although his post moves are more advanced than Embiid at this point, his lack of athleticism places his ceiling much lower. There are no questions about Embiid’s defensive ability, and he showed an excellent feel for the game and improved immensely on offense last season. I’d much rather have the guy that can impact the game on both ends.

Also, I think because of players like Oden and Bynum people are just kind of assuming that Embiid will never be able to stay healthy. However, I think that Embiid is a much more fluid athlete than either of those players or a guy like Brook Lopez. I think that the sixers are just taking a extra cautious approach with his recovery because they really don’t care about the season. Although you can’t guarantee anything, I think its way premature to write him off.

It’ll be interesting to see how towns develops this season. Right now he is still inconsistent with his effort at times and appears to still be learning his game. However, you can definitely see the potential and his ability to shoot the ball and stretch the floor as well as play in the post is very intriguing. I wouldn’t surprise me to see him emerge as the number one pick by the end of the season.

It’s still very early but I’d go Embiid. His size + athleticism is head and shoulders above Towns or Okafor. Big fan of both those guy’s game, but I also like Cauley-Stein as a prospect.

I think Embiid makes a difference with his defense. Okafor could turn into an Al Jefferson clone if he develops a consistent midrange jumper. His defense will probably never be great.

 Love this question because it’s so close.  I think if I don’t take injuries into account, Embiid is the guy.  He has the total package and the potential to put it all together.  He also makes great basketball plays for playing for so little time, like the way he dribbles away from double teams in the post to survey the floor.  Most veteran big men in the NBA can’t grasp this and he already has it down.

Okafor I also really like.  He gets a bad rep for his D kind of because he isn’t super explosive.  However there are other ways to play defense and protect the rim such as taking charges, verticality and moving your feet.  Okafor has quick feet, long arms and seems to be a smart kid so I think he will be just fine on the defensive side of the ball if he gives consistent effort.  Omer Asik doesn’t have the highest vertical, but he absolutely is one of the best big man defenders out there.  Offensively I think everybody already knows how good he is.  In 3 games so far 8-10, 8-10, 9-10.  If I take health concerns into account, I think I take Okafor just slightly over the other 2.

 Jahlil is a safer bet. Hes almost certainly going to be a good nba player. Embiids upside is through the roof but not necessarily a sure thing. Towns equals pau gasol ???
