Okay so I made this post primarily for some fun. Oftentimes people tend to overrate NBA prospects only to be disappointed with the end result when they finally match up with professional talent. So right now I’m going to give you two prospects that essentially play the same position. One is already in the NBA, the other is a 2015 NBA prospect. I would like to know who would you rather have for their entire career.

Embiid or Jahlil Okafor? – I would take Embiid

Aaron Gordon or Porzingis? – I would take Aaron Gordon

James Young or Mario Hezonja? – I would take Hezonja.

Alex Len or Willie Cauley-Stein? – I would take Len.

Noah Vonleh or Harrell? – I would take Harrell.

Giannis or Stanley Johnson? – I would take Giannis.

MCW or Mudiay? – I would take Mudiay.

Josuf Nurkic or Dakari Johnson? – I would take Nurkic.

Shabazz Napier or Terry Rozier? – I would take Napier.

Nerlens Noel or Karl Towns? – I would take Noel.

Feel free to make your own Would You Rathers…

I will only give an opinion about players I have at least some insight, so nothing on Porzingis, Hezonja, S. Johnson or Rozier.

Okafor – Although Embiid might have more (raw) talent, especially on D, two things hold against him. One is that although he was developing very fast, his low post game is still less developed compared to where Okafor is right now. Secondly and more importantly is that Embiid has a pretty severe injury, and before he shows he can return from this injury I would rather have Okafor.

WCS – Although he lacks anything resembling a low post game, WCS is the superior player thanks to his impressive athleticism and great potential on D. He reminds me of a young DeAndre Jordan, both the good (defense), the bad (offense) and the ugly (free trows). Len seems to lack lateral speed and although he is developed offensively, he will never be able to impact the game like WCS can.

Vonleh – Vonleh showed flashes of star potential last year, both on D and on offense (especially with his outside shot). I like Harrell as a player, but his game is mainly based on a high energy level and a gigantic motor that never stops. He has a chance to be a very good player in the league, but Vonleh has a chance (if he develops properly) to become of the better two-way players at his position (PF).

Mudiay – MCW had a nice rookie year but he was very inefficient and had a lot of turnovers. Partly this might be explained by the lack of good other options on his team, but I believe that MCW lacks the lateral quickness or 3pt shot to truly lead a team to victories. Mudiay on the other hand might also lack a solid outside shot (this is something he has to work on this year, hopefully I can), but he is as explosive as they get and is able to control his athletism in order to get him to the basket at will.

Nurkic – Normally I have something against Euro big men, who sometimes have a tendency to play soft, trying to go for the outside shot rather than banging inside. Nurkic is different, he is a bruiser in the Pekovic-mold who fills a ton of space on offense. Both seem to lack lateral quickness necessary to truly dominate on D. Nurkic gets my vote as I like his offensive fundamentals better and shoots an OK percentage from the line for a big man.

Towns – Difficult decision, considering both of these big men lack something. Noel lacks an offensive game and despite rebuilding his shot still lacks a consistent outside (free throw) shot. Towns is a very good, albeit sometimes streaky, shooter who has the length to play down low. He had a tendency to play soft, but the last year he realized this is the part of his game that needed to develop and I can see him becoming better at playing inside as the year progresses. Another plus for Towns over Noel is the injury Noel had, which essentially halted his progression with one year and might remain something of a weakness for the rest of his career.

okafor…mainly because of his offensive skills and less injury concerns.

gordon…he’s just too versatile to be compared to porzingis.  plus, his athleticism, hustle and rebounding is much better.

young…i think they offer similar abilities but young is a better athlete to me.

len…i think his offense advantages is much better than wcs’ defensive advantages.

vonleh…more athletic, younger and has nice stretch abilities.

giannis…i don’t think many can compare his size and fluidity on the court.  plus, i think his ball handling is much better than johnson’s.

mudiay…just a far better athlete in my opinion.  makes the game look easy while mcw is limited by his quickness.

napier…i just can’t look past how good he was last year at the end of the season.  can’t see many his size being that much faster and quicker.

nurkic…both are kind of brute, low post guys but i think nurkic is bigger and meaner.

towns…his offensive skills and size (legit 7 footer) make him the choice for me.  international experience with puerto rico helps.

     Embiid over Okafor for potential

Porzingis over Gordon because he actually has an nba position.

    James Young and Hezonja draw

    Willie Cauley Stein over Len

Noah Vonleh over Harrell… Vonleh way more skilled

Giannis is crazy hyped but id take him just because of his massive upside

Mudiay over MCW 10 times out of 10 !!

Nurkic is better than Dakari Johnson

    New ones:

    Mudiay over Dante Exum

    Kelly Oubre over Ben Mclemore

    Jahlil Okafor over Nerlens Noel

    Karl Towns over Noah Vonleh

    Nik Stauskus over Hezonja

    Marcus Smart over Stanley Johnson

Stanley Johnson and Justice Winslow over Victor Oladipo

The Vonleh Harrell debate is one that I bet you guys will be doubting by the end of the year.  On the first possesion of Louisvilles game he hit down a three.  He has shown that he has the potential to hit the outside shot and I think the energy he brings is something that not very many can replicate.  I think Herrell will play himself to a top 5 pick by the time the draft comes around.

Definitely agree with this; in his first few games he showed a nice outside touch, both from 3 (3 for 4 in his last game) as well as from the line (9 for 10 in his last game). If he can continu this development and develops an offensive game he will be highly sought-after come draft time. Now if he could only makes sure he is measured 6’9 at the combine (considering teams still put a lot of value on height for their PF) he can be a top 5 pick.

If you’re taking Noel over Towns you must not really like Towns, because Noel has no offensive game at all.
