I don’t get to see much of the Knicks but every time I do, I come away confused about 2 guys on this roster: Tim Hardaway Jr., and Qunicy Acy. Both guys are young and athletic and both guys provide stuff that others don’t. Acy will be a career role player because he is a 6’7 PF without much of a jumper but he always plays hard and rebounds.. He would average a double double if he could get 30 minutes a night. Got a little off topic though..

    FREE TIM HARDAWAY!!

He has everything he needs to be a great 2nd option like Klay Thompson is in GS.. Well, everything but the minutes. For some reason, Fisher would rather play Shump and Smith over Hardaway when Smith, regardless of what anyone says, is a chucker, and Shump is nice but not like Hardaway.. Anytime THJ has played over 20 minutes, he has scored 15 points and shot at least 50% from 3.

    TRADE HIM!

If Fisher doesn’t want to play him, he needs to move him.. Hardaway would be a great fit on a lot of teams..

Indiana would be great for him.. Give up George Hill, David West, and a conditional 1st round pick for Hardaway Jr. and Amare. Give Hardaway all the shots he can handle so he can learn to score while Paul George is out and test Amare to see if he can be resigned for super cheap to help this team. George Hill has been nice but he can be replaced through the off season with a FA pickup because of the Amare contract.. The Knicks get a PF that will fit great with the Triangle and a PG that is an upgrade to anyone they have played all year.. If Calderon is a better fit, Hill may be the best backup PG in the league.

Just a little rant on this Monday.

what ever happened to shump playing pg?  it seemed like he started as a combo guard out the gate and then they’ve abandoned that play in whole.  was his decision making that bad?  but yeah, they need to free up minutes for hardaway.  he’s playing too well.

pacers would love that trade.  building a team around george, hardaway and hibbert wouldn’t be too bad a deal.

Well said. I’m from NY so I get all of the Knicks games, however, it seems as if Derek Fisher did not watch any film of last year’s team. Tim Hardaway Jr. was perfect as the starting off-ball guard and could thrive in any situation in which he did not have ballhandling responsibilities or have to guard out of position. So what does Fisher have Hardaway Jr. doing? Functioning as a primary ballhandler of the second unit. The one thing Hardaway does not do well is create off the bounce/in the P&R, and that’s exactly what Fisher has him doing. Who plays best as a primary ballhandler/scorer/sixth-man off the bench? JR Smith. Seems like Fisher has got their roles reversed, despite a seasons worth (and in Smith’s case, a careers worth) of evidence against his coaching decisions. Mike Woodson got such an unfair rap in New York but this man knew who belonged in what role.

Being that we are on the topic of the Knicks, a couple of other things I would like to point out and see if anyone has come to the same conclusions. Carmelo Anthony has been starting at the 3 but has been most effective as a nightly mismatch for any true 4 in the league. Fisher seems hell-bent on playing with two traditional big men, such as Amare Stoudemire and Samuel Dalembert, despite the spacing and, more importantly, defensive issues this immediately presents. Fisher is creating spacing and defensive issues for his team. Amare is strictly a 5 in my eyes because that is the only position he can guard somewhat effectively. He cannot chase athletic or stretch 4s or contain them in P&R situations.

My perfect (actually, Mike Woodson’s perfect) starting lineup for this team would be Jose Calderon (once healthy), Hardaway Jr. and Shumpert on the wings, and Carmelo and Dalembert up front. Dalembert functions in the Tyson Chandler role and the guards/wings bring a nice complimentary blend of ballhandling, shooting, offball ability, and defense. The offense continues to revolve around Carmelo, and when the second unit comes in, there is no lack of scoring because JR has free reign and Amare is manning the block, but can play a two-man game with JR.

Sorry for the rant but this team has been extremely frustrating to watch due mostly to the coaching. I am no Knicks fan but as someone who gets every game televised, I am longing for the days of Coach Woodson.

timmy could possibly be the worst defensive SG in the league. he’s pathetic on that end. his shot selection and handle need work too. i don’t get the love for him. he’s a dime a dozen streaky shooting 2 who sucks on defense. people say that he had a decent season last year when in actually he was one of the biggest net negative rotation players (plays with over 20 mpg) in the league.

i don’t see the need to "free" him.

shump has actually been pretty awesome this year. no way thj should cut into his minutes. if anything, shump should be playing more.

Absolutely. His defense is atrocious, and I’m not exaggerating. It always looks like a player gets to drive by him in any situation. His feet are so lazy. He does make a lot of threes though gotta give him that. His form is perfect and with that stroke, I say he can be a consisent 42% three point shooter in his career.

Yeah, I will never understand the love for THJ.  When he’s on, he’s a capable scorer, but so is JR, and JR is a far better defender (not saying much) and has surprisingly morphed into being a willing passer this year (though he still sometimes reverts back to his poor shots).

I figured they were trying to move smith. Probably pull the trigger around the deadline or sooner. Think they’ve had enough of him.

As a Wolverines fan, even I think some users are overrating Hardaway. I don’t think he is quite good enough to be a long term starter on a decent team in the NBA.

I think his ceiling is simply a starting 2 guard/fifth best starter on a good team. Obviously, this is nowhere near All-Star level but definitely a realistic best-case scenario for him. His size for his position, shooting, and athleticism will keep him in the league for a while.

In fact I remember getting negged on here after disagreeing with all the kids who thought he was going to be a great player after being named to the all-rookie team.

I said his stats were inflated as he got alot of playing time on a bad team……

       He sucks.

He’s injured anyway, so he won’t be playing for awhile.

The fact you think Hardaway Jr is near Klay Thompson is laughable.

When Calderon is playing the Knicks will have much better spacing, and passing and point guard play.  Hopefully Hardaway will start then, he would be a good fit, and then the Knicks can either go big with Carmelo at small forward or go quicker and put a defensive swingman into the lineup so Anthony and Hardaway can score more.

Hardaway needs to learn how to effect the game in some way other than scoring. Rebound, create scoring chances for others, defend well do something. One dimensional players in this league dont last long.
