Myles Turner - NBADraft.net

Haven’t spotted a recent thread on him; what do you guys think? Have you seen his two games at Texas? His shot blocking prowess seems to be LEGIT. And one day soon his jumper is going to be automatic, maybe to the NBA 3point line.
Now, his physical concerns have to be repeatedly mentioned with him, because IMO, it will determine his ceiling. Right now, he looks really flimsy/easily breakable- He doesn’t get good flexion in his knees, he’s basically a walking hyper-extention. He barely lifs his feet on his running gate. I saw his legs give out in his first game while battling for post position, he did a sqaut.
BUT, at the same time, he’s athletic. He’s a pretty explosive leaper. And, I envision his legs gaining a lot more muscle (he was just a twig a year or two ago). I think he’s going to get more athletic. So, how good is this kid going to be??? Could his future more athletic/coordinated self be Anthony Davis-lite?

He has all the tools to be a solid player in the league.. but looks like he lacks basketball IQ to be a one and done.. Myles did a good job picking Texas though, Barnes and his Flex offense will help Myles develop into a very solid pro.. I feel like Anthony Randolph was in the same boat as Myles could be if he doesnt stay in school.. had all the tools to be great but just didnt get enough coaching in college to catch up with his peers on the basketball IQ side of the game..

I really like this kid and he reminds me of another Texas product LaMarcus Aldridge. I read almost everywhere he is a C, but I think he would be better suited as a PF. Offensively he isn’t and may never be what Aldridge is, I think a light version is most likely. Defensively he looks to have great instincts and could have a very nice ceiling on that end of the floor. Anthony Davis light is a nice comparison, I think he has a chance to get into the conversation with Okafor and Towns as a big guy who most teams would love to have.

  I’m 100% with what you said about him vs. Aldridge. He gets that comparison a lot, but I don’t think he’ll be quite that good in the highpost. I’m not sure if he’ll be close to that good in the highpost — Aldridge’s strength/body is a big factor in his success in the highpost , and i don’t see Turner ever getting that strong/thick. IMO Turner will have 3point range tho. And he’ll probly be a conventional highpost guy who just faces up, jab steps and shoots – without all of the backing down and turn-around Js that Aldridge does. He could still make him a great scorer tho, 3point range and highpost. What’s really interesting about his offensive game is his off the dribble potential too. If he gets that going a little bit he’d be really unique.
  About his position, I really don’t know what he is in today’s NBA. There are so many centers who look like Turner with just 10-15 extra pounds – Gieng , Gobert, younger Javele Mcgee, Larry Sanders. KG and Bosh a lot of times. Right now he’s DEF way too fragile,skinny and weak to play Center in the NBA. But in like 2 years, he could be strong enough – he still won’t be able to hold much ground but with his length, he could probably manage. He’s not a PF either right now, btw. He’s not quick enough laterally, PFs are all quick today.

Looking like a guy who could challenge for the #1 pick based on what we’ve seen so far. Only thing is the fact he hasn’t matched up with real competition yet. We should get a look Thursday when they play Iowa, and maybe if they can play Syracuse in the 2K Classic. What I’m really looking forward to seeing is how he does 11/30 when he is set to play UConn and a frontcourt with Brimah

Loved his Dirk-esque step back the other night. Myles has gotten off to a hot start against some tiny teams, but he’s got a lot of his points using that mid-range game that will translate against bigger opponents. It’s not like he’s just drop stepping everyone. I feel he will get bullied a bit in the post by bigger guys, but the fact he’s an inside/outside guy helps his projection.
A lot to like about his early season start, but it doesn’t really say or prove a whole lot due to the caliber of the teams Texas played.
