I know not many people have much nice to say about Bargnani but he should be making his debut soon this year to a struggling Knicks team. Andreas talent has never been a question its always been about motivation and desire with him. On paper his skills seem to be a great fit with the triangle offence.

The Knicks have been committed to running the offence through thier bigs this year. With Stats minutes limited alot of sets are ran through Dalembert and he has not shown the required skillset for the Knicks to be succsessful thusfar.

With Acy, Dalembert, and Jason Smith all getting around 18-mpg in the frontcourt and guys like Wear and Aldrich also getting spot rotation minutes here and there he should find his way into the rotation when he is healthy.

Bargnani does his best with the ball in his hands. It makes him more focused in the game and he performs better all around when he feels engaged. He is only 29. With a contract year ahead of him do you see the Knicks try to run the offence through Bargnani, and how well do you think he and they will do?

I wonder which position of the triangle will he play. The Knicks have had spacing issues lately. It’s clear you want Amare in the low post, where he can play back to the basket or faceup to the middle;  and Melo in the weak side high post, where he can execute the pinch post action… so where does Bargnani fits? Is he going to stand in the strong side corner for spacing purposes?

Also, Jason Smith is a solid role player and his midrange game is exceptional, but I don’t see the triangle benefiting him the most unless he plays in Melo’s spot. After executing the pinch post, if the ball doesn’t go to the player coming out of the flare screen on the other side, the usual next step is an inside pick and roll/pop, which is where I think Jason Smith would be very useful.

I don’t think the team is terribly assembled, it was last season… they’d benefit from moving some pieces in december, though.

Bargnani has very low basketball IQ, which not good for the triangle. It’s not good for anybody.

I’d rather see them shift Carmelo to PF, continue to give Cole Aldrich minutes, and play a guard heavy lineup which features a lot of Calderon, JR Smith, Hardaway Jr, etc. and perhaps put Iman Shumpert at SF

Bargnani isn’t good at anything. He’s probably the worst defensive centre in the league and his shooting percentages are rubbish.

Just because someone is tall and can get a shot off, doesn’t mean they’ll make it.

He doesn’t belong in the league. He never did.

21 ppg doesnt belong in the league? Bargs is just soft and doesnt play with much motivation. Injuries have also derailed his career.

I actually can see Bargnani playing the PF and Dalembert playing C with the hope that Dalembert’s presence can help to mask Bargnani’s poor defense.

He is a 5 for sure.

Bargnanis defence isnt the problem its his motivation and desire to win each game. He didnt make winning plays it was as if he thought the game didnt matter and it was his job to entertain more then it was his job to compete. Almost as if the outcome of the game didnt matter at times so not rotating is okay or not banging with whoever he was on the block with was alright.

When Bargnani is playing motivated basketball he can be an acceptable defender if his limitations sre taken into consideration.

He is a good low post defender and has solid mobility for someone 7’0 250. He should never be gaurding the perimeter that is a terrible place for him to be. He gets exposed badly when gaurding quick fours especially if they have range out to 18-feet. So playing him at the 5 is necassary or he gets exposed immediatly.

Problem with that is although he is capable of boxing out he is terrible at gathering or chasing down loose rebounds or loose balls, and also struggles with help defence concepts. Those are 2 things most teams immediatly expect thier starting Center to do so if Bargnani starts he needs to be playing beside someone that does that to be succsessful. Thats why he did so well playing next to Amir Johnson and Ed Davis.

I wouldnt suggest Bargnani and Dalembert play on the court together although I do see them trying that rotation to have it fail badly.

Quincy Acy comes from the same mold as Amir Johnson and Ed Davis and even played with them and Bargnani so he would be a great player to play Bargnani next to. I think that the Knicks will use thier frontcourt rotation like this at first until he shows progression.

    PF-Stoudemire, Acy, Smith,

    C-Dalembert, Bargnani, Stoudemire, Smith, Aldrich

Dalembert and Stoudemire should work as a unit as should Bargnani and Acy. If anyone gets into foul trouble or during thier rotation Smith can step in and finish their rotation to keep bodies fresh. Staying within a structured rotation seems important. Stat and Bargnani are injury prone and dont seem capable of taking too many minutes. Also Stat and Dalembert seem to compliment eachother fairly well defensively as Dalembert masks some of Amares holes on that end.
