Ok. I really feel bad for OKC and especially Westbrook now. This was supposed to be the time he shows what he could do without KD. Everyone was hyped. He started well obliterating Lillard in the opening game with 38. Then he fractures his hand the next game. I was honestly expecting him to be top 5 or even top 3 in the MVP race but damn why does these kinds of injuries happen all the time?? It sucks!!!

So far, OKC injured list consist of Durant (foot), Westbrook (hand), Lamb (back), Jackson (ankle), and Morrow. I’m maybe forgetting another player but that’s 4 of your top 5 scorers injured right there. How bad can it get for this team.

At least we get to see Perry Jones get out of the Anthony Randolph ‘potential’ curse with extended playing time. I’m expecting him and Ibaka to score 20-25 a game until at least Jackson comes back.

I’m not sure the Thunder even reach the minimal player limit, they will probably have to sign a free agent or two. I believe the limit is 7 or 8 healthy players. I haven’t seen a quantity of injuries this devasting since Portland in the Roy days.

As far as I can tell, the star system does not work with no stars. Ain’t no fun when the rabbit got the gun huh?

We shall see what kind of shape the Thunder are in when Durant and Westbrook come back. They have more 31 games between now and the end of the calendar year (though five are against the Jazz, Bucks and 76ers). Even if you assume that Durant and Westbrook are 100% from the moment they return and stay that way, they probably need to be around the .400 win mark by the end of December if one think it is going to take 48 or 49 wins to get the 8-seed. Also, January starts a road-heavy stretch of the schedule that leads into the ASB, which is not an ideal way to have a defacto preseason/early season for a couple guys.

This is bad for OKC. I like to think Im optimistic by nature but in the strict world of buisness this looks like a lose lose situation for OKC.If PJ3, Lamb, Jackson, Adams and Roberson dont step up they miss the playoffs. If they do step up they line themselves up for huge paydays. If they lign themseleves up for huge paydays OKC cant retain them. Presti has done a miracolous job balancing and reshaping this roster from years past considering what a tight budget they are on.

Lets not forget turning Allen into Green on draft night the offseason before the Celtics won their first championship. Then they gave Green back to Celtics for Perkins when Boston wanted to restructure around their big 3 with multiple different frontcourt options including Shaq, Sheed, Jermaine Oneal, Jason Collins. Alot of people like to bash Perkins but are quick to forget Perkins was the main x factor in each Lakers Celtics series.

Trading Harden for K-Mart (now considered 15-million per year cap relief), Lamb amd Adams. Now Adams is effectively takng over Perkins role and Lamb will get an oppurtunity to help Jackson and Jones replace Westbrook, and Durant.Through all this Collison has stayed loyal and never pursued another team and the young guys belief in coach Brooks has never wavered although sometimes his decision making was in question.

I also think Mcgary is ready to come in immediatly and work towards replacing Collison and Perkins in the short future.

Although I dont know why any of these guys would want to stay somewhere that is owned by a group openly refusing to pay over the salary cap. They must truly love the city and have pride wearing the Thunder uniform if they want to stay for reduced pay or reduced talent do to the fact that they are not willing to pay. OKC tried to get Gasol and they missed. Alot of great things have happened within development but tye personnel is responsible for that not management.

It will be interesting to see what happens going forward with this team. I think they maybe prime for a wave of trades soon.
