ropeParticipantJust looked through tonight’s Knicks box score. Wow. That is a pretty bad roster.

CodySLCParticipantThey were bad last season, and it’s likely they will be worse this season. I don’t see Phill Jackson in the front office or Fisher as the coach running the triangle changing anything, atleast this season.
Once they get some contracts off the books in Amare and Bargnani they can look for some free agent help to pair with Melo. But intell then it’s looks like another long season instore for NY.

nick5354ParticipantI agree. I don’t think most people including Fisher and Jackson expect the Knicks to do anything special this season. They know the roster is bad, and it will take several reasons to get rid of the garbage and transform the roster so they can utilise there game plan to the fullest ability.
Like the commentator was saying today in the game, it doesn’t matter how good the triangle offensive is or Fisher and Jackson, if the roster is not up to scratch then t doesn’t matter.

Jr. ROXASParticipantThe Knicks looked awful with the "triangle offense" they were running against Chicago. They all look super indecisive in making passes. They constantly get double teamed of the handoff but don’t give the ball especially the guards. Their frontcourt got killed by Gasol and especially Gibson. Melo really couldn’t get the ball that much. I honestly thought the traingle would run through Melo in the high post with everyone playing through him. It does turn out he plays off the ball too much and Dalembert and Amare are the ones in the high post executing the offense lol.
Of course there is a feeling out process with this offense especially with a new coach. I also think Calderon would help them A LOT when he comes back because Larkin looked really bad running the offense. He gave energy and pace but looked really uncofident with his decisions. Calderon will give them a voice and stability. Also I think Bargnani would also help them a lot. I’d rather run my offense through him who could face up, drive and hit threes rather than Dalembert. I hope Fisher starts him even if a lot of Knicks fans despise Bargs now. He’s still the big man that fits the system best.
I’m not expecting too much out of this Knicks team after that horrible opening game but they need time. I hope they do better though as the season progresses and that the first game is really just growing pains of the triangle. Again, as many people have said, the NBA is better with the Knicks winning. Skeets of The Startersmade a funny comment on how hyped he is with the Bulls and Knicks game because it is of course in MSG and the Knicks are out of all else are still 0-0 which makes the fans more hyped. Lollllllll.

tuck243ParticipantThat offense looked deplorable… I was a little concerned with not having Melo in isolation spots within the triangle. They didn’t notice Melo had Mike Dunleavy Jr. on him all game? A few possessions showed just how terrible that offense was…
1. Ball was in the right corner and Melo had Mike on his hip coming across the lane…instead of going to Melo there, he backs out to the 3pt line and Shump takes a terrible shot because it was late in the shot clock.
2. Melo is posting up with Mike on him again and Jason Smith is looking to throw in an entry pass into Melo from the 3pt line. Taj Gibson just backed up and denied the pass, it’s no reason to contest Jason Smith’s 3pt shot.
That’s terrible offense and I don’t care what roster you have out there, that falls on the coaches… At the end of the day, they’re suppose to win games. At least put in isolation packages. They were also horrible at rotating the ball to the other side and gave up a ton of turnovers by trying to make a split pass…

HitsterParticipantWith the Knicks, one thing that has struck me, has Phil effectively ordered Derrick Fisher to run the triangle offence as a condition of him getting the Head Coaching role. I know that the system takes time to learn but if the players on the roster aren’t capable of running this system then the only reason I can see them using it is to get some players used to running with it and Phil then brings in players capable of using it.
