slash787ParticipantI won’t lie I will go down with the ship on Moe Harkless. He has shown a ton of potential and solid play the past 2 seasons. I am very suprised he didn’t even get in the game yesterday. Does anyone have any inside scoop on what is future with the Magic is going to be? It does not look promising at this point but like I said I still believe he will be a solid NBA starter.

rich.homie.mitchParticipantJacque Vaughn needs to be fired. I think he will be the first coached to be fired this year.

RUDEBOY_Participant2 days ago vaughn told an orlando tv station that harkless defense has to improve….but harkless & nicholson still should’ve gotten some burn in a blowout lost…

TRC1991ParticipantAside from being a few years younger, is Harkless any different a player than Al-Farouq Aminu?

JoeWolf1Your "versitile" defensive 3 men who are kind of good at everything, but aren’t good enough to hang their hats on any one thing outside of being pretty good defenders have a really hard time in the league.
I’m not surprised. Earl Clark is getting kicked around the bottom of people’s rosters, and to my knowledge got cut by Memphis. James Johnson was the same way, Julian Wright, Royce White, Terrance Williams, Anthony Randolph, Aminu, I feel is at least a high level rebounder for his position, so he has a tad more staying power, but in a league of specialists….the jack of all trades, master of none type guys flat out have a hard time getting past their rookie deals if they don’t progress in one particular area.
A lot of these guys have potential in a lot of areas, and get scooped up high, but often they don’t know what kind of players they are in the NBA game, or want to be the type of player that they were in college, but it just doesn’t work against better competition.

sweaterflexParticipantThough the sample size isn’t huge, Harkless flashed improved range shooting 38% from three last season, do you think it is more likely that he falls in to the same niche as the players you mentioned or that Jacque Vaughn doesn’t balance rotations well? He was great as a Spurs assistant, but the development of these lottery picks has been disappointing.

ropeParticipantAgreed that the "jack of all trades, master of none" doesn’t really translate very well to the NBA. Unless a player is a star, they need to develop one key skill that they can be counted on to deliver every time they step on the court.

slash787ParticipantI see your point. I know guys like Ariza and Gerald Green developed a 3 pointi shot so that is what it looks like he will have to do. Harkless is only 21 at this point so he still has time but needs court time to help him further that development.
Harkless has already had better seasons than Julian Wright and Royce White hands down and has put together 2 seasons in a row where he has shown improvement (increased his 3pt% from 27 to 38%) which is another good sign. Terrence Williams didn’t really show improvement and is kind of a head case.
Everything I have read points to Harkless having a strong work ethic and not being a head case. That along with his 11% increase in 3pt % I think he is headed in the right direction. The Magic aren’t a contender and there’s zero reason Willie Green should be on the court over Moe Harkless when the Magic are getting lit up. It’s not acceptable for a team that is trying to develop young talent. Jaque Vaughn is a terrible coach to add to that.

Lotto StudParticipantTwo guys from this year’s Draft class that technically fit the mold of this, are T.J. Warren and Rodney Hood. If we all were to go back to all of the negatives from this past collegiate season, we would see now that the two players above name hold weight to the bait of your post.

GBeeParticipanthe’s a better player than aaron gordon currently, but AG’s the 4th overall pick so there you go.
