Who wrote this and who allowed it to be posted as Nerlens Noels season expectations. The following is Nerlwns Noels "Season Projection" on ESPN.

    SEASON PROJECTION

The Sixers made a long-term investment when they drafted Noel in 2013, and they stuck to their guns and didn’t play him at all last season. Now it’s time for the payoff, as Noel is 100 percent over his torn ACL and will get all of the minutes he can handle on the super-young Sixers roster. We know that the blocks, steals and rebounds will come right away for the 20-year-old. His true upside will depend on how well he settles in as a scorer. The long-term potential could be something like 20 PPG, 11 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 3.0 BPG. And considering how many minutes and touches are available for Noel, it’s not inconceivable that he could do at least 17 PPG, 9 RPG and 2.5 BPG right out of the gate. –TC

Now its fine that they are optimistic about his potential numbers but come on let the guy play a couple games with health before placing such huge expectations on him.20-11-1.5-and 3.0 seems farfetched.

11 RPG and 3 BPG does not seem to out of reach in a few years when he settles into the league. And I even think saying he could do 9PPG and 2.5BPG out of the gate is no too crazy, although the blocks number will be closer to 1.8 then 2.5.

What is crazy is the points projections. He has little no offensive game at this point and will get his points through put backs and junk buckets. I really really do not think he will ever average 20 PPG.

If he averages 17PPG this year I will be in a state of utter shock. Will never happen. What is this person smokin’ thinking he can average that many points?

ESPN has been drunk this entire off season…  Some of the things they post is beyond ridiculous and I wonder if Chris Palmer is ghost writing for some of these guys.

I wish there was a Vegas over / under at 17 ppg for his scoring average this year. I would bet my car on the under.

What’s crazy also is that he also has the potential to get like 1.5 steals per game along with his huge block numbers as he had shown in Kentucky.

The guy isn’t scoring 20 points per game without many moves or a jumper. Please. And as for 11 rebounds, that seems really unlikely. Only a few guys averaged that much last season. You’ve got to be great at rebounding and also get some pretty high minutes to do that. Philly is probably tanking again this year. So they may not even play their best players over 35 minutes a game.

This might be interesting to work out, to see if the projected stats could happen.

4 blocks a game in college, 2.5 blocks a game in his rookie season in the NBA is possible.  So far he has a block in every preseason game, and 3 blocks against the Hornets.

9 rebounds a game in the NBA, he did have 9.5 in college while playing a bit over 30 minutes a game, so that isn’t impossible.  His minutes per game in preseason have been close to his college minutes, and his rebound numbers have been 6, 9 and 11.

Foul trouble is the thing that could stop him getting those projections, but assuming he gets 33 minutes a game then 10 rebounds and maybe 3 blocks and 1.5 steals a game could happen.

Now the scoring part, the 17 points a game.  It seems like it won’t happen, but here are some reasons why it might.  The 76ers have nobody, and Noel and the other 76ers have to replace the points that T Young, J Anderson and B Mullins put up last year as they are gone, plus the 76ers moved out Turner and Hawes during last season too.  The 76ers will run, so that will inflate the numbers of the players there.  Noel could have 3 offensive rebounds a game, so some putback dunks there.

Here are some of the many reasons why he won’t be able to score a lot of points.  He was a 53% free throw shooter in college, even if he improves to 60% it will mean missing out on some points he could have had if he shot better.  He had a 10.5 points per game average in college, where he was often the tallest and most athletic player on the court, and the NBA has some bigger and stronger people in the paint.  The 76ers don’t have outside shooting, so teams can use extra defenders on Noel.  Tony Wroten is going to shoot the ball a lot so Noel may not see it all the time, and Wroten will average close to 20 points a game if he plays enough.

Anthony Davis averaged 13.5 points a game in his rookie season, if Noel can get to that while bringing all his defense then the 76ers and their fans should be happy.  I will guess Noel gets 13 and 10.5, with a lot of blocks and steals and fouls and turnovers.

ESPN is too worried about glorifying SEC football right now to worry about the Non-Lebrons of the world.

You can’t have seven or eight 24-hour television channels and a 24-hour radio network where there are really only 3-4 hours of actual live game action on any network per day without piling on empty calories. Their website and the many, many non-game hours are simply spent marketing their future products. Philadelphia is a big market, and it does not take a basketball genius to look at that roster and scream. What is ESPN’s hook for the Philadelphia fan? Sell hope. Is it fair to Noel? No. He is not a skilled player at this point, and he is extremely skinny. How highly can someone regard a player at this point whose offensive range is limited to 3-5 feet and weighs maybe 225 lbs? It is completely unreasonable to think he is going to be ripping through lanes and dominating. I am fully aware that in order to lose 97-109 (which was the average boxscore for their 7-41 ‘close’ to the season) they need to actually score 97 points and have the accompaning rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots. I think a better case exists for guys like Henry Sims, Tony Wroten, or Elliot Williams to be the ones who have surprising fantasy numbers. I would absolutely bet on Tony Wroten being a fantasy monster while Carter-Williams is out, and it is not crazy to think Sims would be surprisingly good as well.

I think they expect him to get touches since that team is devoid of any talent this season except for MCW and who knows how long MCW will be there with rumors of them wanting to trade him.

I don’t think he cracks 10 ppg this season. Might be decent on defense though.
