McAdoo went off tonight for 20-points in 20-minutes with 7 rebounds. He scored almost all of his points in the 4th qaurter to lead Golden State to the preseason win over Denver.

I still have trouble understanding how he went undrafted. Great move by GSW to pick him up.

UNC fan here.  Proud that he did that.  He had major confidence issues at UNC and put a ton of pressure on himself.  Really overthought things during the games and never could regain his confidence.  His main issue is his jump shot…or lack thereof.  It just looked like he was thinking way to hard on every move he made.

Maybe this will get his confidence back on track.

i agree.  i thought someone would take a flier on him at least, especially with the spurs having 2 of the last 3 picks.  nice pickup by g.s.  you gotta take a flyer on a guy that was a lottery pick 2 years ago.

I don’t have any trouble understanding why he went undrafted. He is the ultimate tweener. JMM’s expectations coming out of of high school were absolutely ridiculous. He was a sure fire all-American and a potential top 5 pick in the NBA draft. Each year he came back to UNC, his stock dropped. McAdoo was a solid college player. Is he a franchise player in the NBA? Of course not. Can he bring a spar kand energy off the bench for a perennial playoff team? Absolutely. I think he will have a solid NBA career.

I agree that he will have a productive NBA career, but I doubt it will be with the Warriors. Between Lee, Bogut, Draymond, Ezeli, and Speights, he has an uphill battle for any minutes whatsoever.

The fact that he is no longer a 1st option takes away so much pressure. Could he be like Miles Plumlee, being that mediocre of a college player in the ACC and then do better in the pros then college?

Did you really just compare Miles Plumlee to JMM in terms of college careers?? Miles averaged 4.8 and 4.8 for his career at Duke. JMM averaged 11 and 6 during his career including a solid 14 and 7 his sophomore and junior season. Miles was a mediocre college player, JMM had a solid college career. Of course the expectations for McAdoo were astronomical compared to Plumlee, but he was far from mediocre. Miles has played well in the NBA. You got to give the man credit, he’s played very well for the Suns. In my opinion, it’s the Duke system that makes big men look consistently bad. They have had Boozer and Shelden Williams in the past but the list of big men busts from Duke is extremely long. Casey Sanders, Michael Thompson, Jamal Boykin? It will be interesting to see if Okafor can buck the trend of big men at Duke and become an elite player.

James has athletic ability, and an NBA body, but what position does he play?

He had a good game, but I don’t know if it signifies any sort of real NBA sucess, like Plumlee who starts for an above .500 team, and is a legit 7 footer with rim protection ability, which is a major translatable skill.

All James’ shots came under the hoop, doing what he does best, being energetic. I don’t think it shows any growth, just doing what everyone liked 2 years ago. People didn’t like when freaking 71% of his shots last year were jumpers, and his FG% at the rim went down every year he was in school.

Trying to be something you’re not is a good way to find your way out of the league. There’s no such thing as a successful 3 in the NBA who doesn’t have 3 point range.

I just feel like his questionable decision making on the perimeter, and desire to play the mid-range game make his translation to the NBA very limited. He may have shown enough for GS to sign him and try to develop him in the D-League, but although James was a disappointment as a cornerstone to an NCAA team, if he can get it though his head that he’s a garbage man, he may be able to stick at the end of someone’s bench long enough for him to polish on his decision make and handle long enough to make a career for himself.

Undersized power forwards are not "sexy" draft picks, but there’s tons of them in the NBA. JMM should use his atheltic ability, and energy and hit the offensive glass, and work on his defense. He may just have a shot, but I’m convinced if he tries to focus on being a 3, or just takes jumpers when he gets in NBA games, he’ll be in Europe very quickly.
