Free agent center Andray Blatche’s deal in China will pay him nearly $2.5M net, source tells Yahoo. He can rejoin the NBA in March. according to Woj.. He will join Jordan Crawford and play for the Xinjiang Guanghui Flying Tigers..

Very surprised nobody picked these 2 guys up.. Blatche could have helped alot of teams..

The Chinese league is really going after players this season

Blatche and Raduljica surprise me the most. I figured after the World Cup both were looking at nice NBA offers and no doubt contracts from European teams.

Understandable that they are okay with going to China. Get paid equal/more then what NBA and Euro teams are offering you and get to feel like you’re a king dropping 25+ a game. They can come back to the NBA when the season starts to actually matter anyways.

I posted yesterday how surprised I was that Crawford couldn’t find a job in the NBA, and I’m even more surprised about Blatche. He was one of the best backup bigs in the league the last two years for the Nets, and he’s one of the more offensively skilled centers in the league. This past season he averaged 18.3 points per 36 minutes with a PER of 18.8. In 2012-13 he was at 19.5 points with a PER of 21.9. I just don’t understand how none of the 30 teams give him a call. Ryan Hollins just got signed, and Blatche is way better than him. It just doesn’t make sense.

I guess being on a “good playoff team” helps. Hollins is a 7 foot scrub and I have more skills/effort than him. Blatche has lost most of his stupid rep and is a decent big.
Crawford surprised me because an off-the-bench offensive spark is always a good thing, I would’ve thought that the Heat or the Thunder would’ve pursued him. Granted I don’t know how much more money they can spend on FAs, if any at all, but he is a good offensive player and sure as hell would have been more productive than many other bench 2s.

I enjoyed Andray while I had him once he got his head on a swivel. Only if he and JaVale McGee weren’t too immature in D.C. they could’ve been a serious tandem. You have to think on how young both were while they were paired together, which is why they were immature, no different than Tyson Chandler & Eddy Curry being broke up before the “troubles”.

Not to throw shade on Gilbert Arenas, but he was not the definition of a leader and it has nothing to do with why he got blackballed. Gilbert’s personality was the people pleaser mentality. How would a guy like Andray know the correct way to become a professional, when his star leader displayed goofiness as much as him being under 21 years of age?

I never said neither Andray nor JaVale would be All-Star caliber guys. Blatche came straight out of HS, which indicates the expectations weren’t high. Whatever he gave back was just an added bonus to the franchise. No one knew that Monta Ellis was going to blossom, they wrote him off and still are writing him off. It’s a crime that Ellis has not made 1 All-Star appearance.

Why wouldn’t teams like Houston, OKC, San Antonio take a chance on this guy? Being from the New York area, I have watched a lot of him and he could really help some playoff teams as a big guy off the bench. He is obviously more of an offensive player (and he obviously thinks the same) but, nonetheless, he is also a very big body. There are not many players his size that can score off the bench like he can.

Maybe he still has some immaturity issues, or needs to go overseas to get a big enough contract to live comfortably, but he definitely belongs in the NBA. I hope to see him back one day.

2.5 million from China, 1 million from the Philippines, and still be eligible to sign with a play-off team in March who needs a veteran back-up. not the worst situation you can be in honestly. its a more out of the box approach to being a pro basketball player, but works for him financially. who knows how he can make money when his playing days are over
