JM40ParticipantWho is your choice for pre-season POY? I’d probably go with Kaminsky, with Paige right behind him. Other names (Okafor, Staten, Taylor)?????

Moon RiverParticipantI like Kaminsky a lot, but I don’t think a POY comes out of the Badgers just because they are so system orientated. Sure he could drop 43 on someone again, but than follow that up with a 5 point 10 rebound stat line because they won’t force feed him the rock if it is not within the flow of the game. I like Dekker a lot too. UW is a legit contender this year.

Memphis MadnessParticipantI have seen Wisconsin rated number 2 in preseason rankings so I would put Sam Dekker in there, too. Always helps to be on a good team.
Willie Cauley-Stein for Kentucky is a very good talent who changes the game with his length and athleticism. Don’t think he will put up the stats of some other guys who have to carry their team by themselves but he is my pick from a DEEP Kentucky team.
My best pound for pound guy with legit lotto talent would be Montrezl Harrell. I can see him continuing to be a monster inside. If I have to go with a guy who could end up being "the best player in college basketball" next season I will go with Montrezl Harrell.
Harrell would be my main pick right now.
Then WCS and Dekker.
Some of my other top candidates are Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Myles Turner, and Wayne Selden.

ncballerThere is a reason UK played a lot better when WCS was injured. He might not even start next season.

imAboutDatActionParticipantWhat?
Their defense suffered without him. One of the major reasons almost all their games in the tourney came down to the absolute wire was because they couldn’t get stops. They really missed him in the national championship game.

ncballerI know Marcus Paige is not much of an NBA prospect, but for an NCAA player he should be in discussion for POY.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantSome think all the talent on that Kentucky team ,their best players might not get the minutes to put up impressive stats..But after watching Townes play this summer Coach Cal has to find a way to keep him on the floor..
Okafor’s Duke best post presence since Elton Brand and with his personal pg,they will be looking for him to be their 1st option…..Also watchout for 3 other freshmen Looney,Oubre & Pinson..
Caris Levert,Isaiah Taylor & Wayne Selden are expected to have great seasons….
Jabari Bird could be in the mix if he can stay healthy….

Memphis MadnessParticipantOf course, it is "way to early" but it looks like Kentucky and Duke might be on a collision course in April. If there is a possible "dream matchup" in sports now, that would probably be it, especially with a bunch of blue chip heavy weight bigs on both rosters.

ncballerI have said this in a lot of threads but, I think we could have a long p!ssing match making very valid arguments that UK, KU, Duke, UNC, Arizona and Wisconsin is the true number 1

MopgrassParticipantOkafor is a pretty easy pick and Cliff Alexander is my other easy pick. I don’t know about everybody else.
Not Really List:
Arizona doesn’t always play freshmen enough (Rondae underplayed, but Gordon didn’t). .. so Stanley Johnson might be the best SF out there, but he might not play as much as he should. He’s going to turn the ball over a lot and he’s rough around the edges.
I’m certain Oubre will play well. I expect 16 PPG. He can leap, but getting around guys is not his strong suit. Still, I’d love for my Lakers to tank and get this guy.
Someone mentioned Looney and I think he could do it if they give him the playing time and let him be the man. UCLA certainly didn’t give the keys to Lavine last year (I know, Slo Mo). Looney seems a bit raw. LeVert is amazing on the drive and with spins, but lacks the killer instinct in an Andrew Wiggins kind of way. Someone mentioned Myles Turner, whom I really like as a prospect, but don’t expect to be able to push over his little sister.
Karl Towns is my favorite player in the draft, but nobody on Kentucky will get enough play time. I watched Selden a whole lot and I don’t think he’s the guy, but he was extremely overshadowed last year.
More Likely List:
I wouldn’t put POY past Montrezl Harrel.
Chris Walker is another guy I think could really surprise a lot of people. They lost their center. I hope they let Walker do what he needs to do.
I’m not wild about Paige as a prospect, but he could totally pull POY.
My final vote is Cliff Alexander: ferocious.

Memphis MadnessParticipantHOPEFULLY, the POY award goes to the BEST player in the country, not just a ball dominant guard from UNC, Duke, MSU, or OSU that puts up the most shots.
So if one of the freshmens deserve it, give it to them.

TarHeelRavenParticipantIncoming freshman should not be on POY watch lists. The step up in competition is immense from playing against guys in HS who will never play D1 ball and guys in college who have been through a year or two of high level college basketball and gone through college strength and conditioning programs. I understand the hype that top high school guys go through because many dominated their competition. It kinda drives me insane when freshman are put on Wooden Award watches and pre-season first team all-americas before they’ve played a single minute of college basketball. Harrison Barnes was the first freshman ever to be a pre-season first team all-american. He was a good college player, but not an all-american by any means. Let these guys play some games first before we hype them up too much.

JoeWolf1Caris LeVert is going to put up big numbers for Michigan, but with the talent they lost, they might not win enough to put him firmly in the race. Still, I could see him being a 18 ppg 6 rpg 4 apg player.
Georges Niang is another college guy who is going to have a lot of offense to make up for with Ejim and Kane out of the picture. I could easily see him going for 20 ppg 5 rpg 4 apg.
Karl Towns needs to be mentioned as well. I feel UK has a lot of high level role players, but of their current roster, Towns has the biggest chance to come in and take that star role.
Some mentioned him earlier, but I’d kind of be surprised if Marcus Foster didn’t average 20 ppg next season. He can really fill it up, and with Spradling gone, he’ll most likely take over more of the ball handling and distributing duties. Not sure if he’s really a PG, but he’s a baller.
I can see Denzel Valentine breaking out as well. He’s a really big versitile player who’s going to be playing on a MSU team that will win a lot of games. Payne, and Appling gone. I could see him being a constant triple double threat and averaging 15 ppg to boot.

GoJOSH HUESTISParticipantNo one from UK should be mentioned, so much talent that no one will shine CONSISTANTLY to win (WCS has the most potential to due to how h,e can change the game via defense) I’d say Sulimon and Wayne Seldon should be dark horses and well as Perry Ellis but I’d have to say Frank/Paige and Dawson from MSU are the front runners, Vanfleet should be mentioned as well

JoeWolf1I doubt anyone from Kansas will average over 15 ppg. I feel they have a 3 headed scoring threat with Wayne, Ellis, and Oubre, with Cliff Alexander cleaning the glass. Don’t get me wrong, they’ll be very good, but I don’t see anyone scoring enough to warrant a POTY award.

nill650Participantnational poy imo:
there is no one name jumps out at me more three if that makes any sense
Hollis-Jefferson AZ
Sam Dekker Wisc
Marcus Paige UNC
outside chance :
Selden KU
Chris Walker,FL
I am not expecting any freshman actually winning the national player of the year, but if one did it would be:
Myles Turner TEXAS
also my bids for defensive poy goes to
William Lee UAB
