Gobert has been a bright spot for Jazz or French fans watching FIBA. He looks to be a legit NBA player and may become better than just a role player, at least defensively. Against the Gasols and Ibaka he looked better than I think most expected. Gobert’s line was not mind blowing, but he really created problems for Spain defensively. Pau had a good line individually, but struggled when Gobert was on him. Combined Spain’s bigs really struggled.

    Gobert: 23 minutes, 5 points, 13 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 2/4 fg, 2/4 ft

    Gasol/Gasol/Ibaka combined: 80 minutes, 22 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 5 bs, 9/26 fg, 4/5 ft

Gobert’s a unique player and I think he has a real chance to push his way into a starting role this year. With his absurd length, the sky is the limit if he keeps developing.

That is what he supposedly said and as someone who watched, have to believe it is true. Did a great defensive job obviously, plus his work on the boards was REALLY impressive. The guy was grabbing rebounds with reckless abandon, some major offensive boards that put France over the top. As someone who was skeptical about the way he moved, definitely hustled and looked much more comfortable than I have ever seen him on the court.

Will say I think he did more work on Pau than any of the other bigs, but he guarded Pau about as well as one could have, was not overwhelmed by a perennial All-Star and seasoned international stud in the least. One thing I will say is that Rudy is still incredibly limited offensively. If he had the ability to establish post position or developed a few counter moves on the block, than watch out. Still is very awkward with the ball and that is what is holding him back from the "sky is the limit" label in my mind.

Nonetheless, was very impressed by what he did in the game and think he has a bright future. If he can stay on the floor playing defense and rebounding like he did against Spain, than he absolutely could make a great starting center. If he becomes someone you need to be weary of 10-12 feet away from the hoop and once he gains upper body strength, that is when he could really turn into a studly starting center. Has work to do, though the work he put in against Spain is tremendously encouraging.

Gobert sure did a good job against Spain but has not been so great over the first games. 4pts 5 rebs in 15 min/game over the competition. He often gets abused by more experienced centers using fakes and body contact to draw fouls.

He’s still fouling waaaaay too much (2,6 fouls / game – Fiba basketball allows 5 fouls / game) to be a starter for any NBA team in my opinion.

However I agree on the fact that he could become a big defensive weapon .. in the next two years ! Offensive game has not been improving at all last year so I don’t think he has tons of potential but France does not run much isolation or systems for him so it’s difficult to judge.

This guy is a beast. This guy is hella mobile and agile for a HUGE dude and he gets up off the floor reaaalllyyy quick. Could not wait to see this guy develop, because guys the size of Roy Hibbert who can move and jump as well as he does will be a FORCE.

I mean, just look at that second play. He blocked a jumpshot with his freakin tentacles and brought it up the court to smash it left-handed. Where else could you see a 7’2 guy do that??? I’m buying the hype, just hope he gets the opportunity to showcase his gifts.

Difficult decision because Favors loves Utah and would potentially stay there is whole career as long as they pay him fair market value. So if the guy they trade for bolts after his next contract is up, they kind of lose the trade.

decent understanding of the international game and now the transferring it into developing the same in the nba will be his first obstacle.

will he become more than a steal from where he we drafted if he develops a solid offensive game over the next 2 seasons? Your darn tootin

I am often surprised at how far players like Gobert drop as if the only reason they are on the draft board is due to their physical attributes.

This man has had his pros and cons liike many bigs since being drafted only for potential but there is no denying the posibility of dominance with length and a shooters touch like he has.

If Gobert had been an NCAA player, I still think he’d have been taken well inside the lottery. Utah have renewed Favors who is now on his new contract and can renew Kanter now as he will be in the final year of his rookie deal so with Gobert there they will have a lot of thinking to do.

The 3 guys could share the frontcourt minutes but there are question marks about whether Favors or Kanter can really be perimeter defenders so can they play together. With Gobert’s size he needs to be the defensive anchor so can he really play with one of the other two I wonder.

Imagine if Cleveland somehow were able to trade for him. It would erase their only weakness and probably set them up for a dynasty. Not sure if Waiters + a draft pick would get it done or not.
