TarHeelRavenParticipantShaka Smart has had his basketball team team do simulated seal training as part of his conditioning program since he took over at VCU. I think seal team training as part of a strength and conditioning program is a great idea. I’ve seen videos of this and of course it isn’t the exact same training the actual Navy Seals go through but it still looks pretty intense, The training stresses the use of teamwork and looking after your fellow teammates which is of the utmost imprtance on the basketball court. Pushing yourself when you think you don’t have anything left can build mental toughness for a close game on the road in the final minutes in front of a hostile crowd. Does any other college basketball program in the country implement Seal training in their conditioning program?

Chilbert arenasParticipantI think for mental toughness, work capacity and team comradery it’s a great idea, but should not be their sole conditioning program. I’ve worked with a few teams during preseason strength and conditioning and injury prevention, proprioception, mobilty, and power are all big aspects that are left out of a Navy Seal conditioning program,
