TimberTrollParticipantPrior to the 2012-13 championship game versus Michigan I hadn’t even heard of this guy, but after watching him seemingly single handedly keep Louisville in that game I’ve really like him.
Apparently, the Memphis Grizzlies have released Jamal Franklin, and, according to RealGM, have signed Hancock for the upcoming season.
I didn’t think there was anyway that somebody in the NBA would give this guy a chance, but I’m now pleasantly surprised!
And if you’re wondering I didn’t really know who Gorgui Dieng was then either.

Numbers_CruncherParticipantI guess Memphis is hoping he somehow can replace Mike Miller.

nick5354ParticipantI remember watching that game being blown away from that hot streak he got on and put the team on his back.
If someone was watching that game without knowing the dynamics or players of college basketball they could have been easily mistaken to think he was a top ranked player.
I think any player who shows that composure in a championship game is worth a chance .

imAboutDatActionParticipantYour mindset is the reason why GM’s get fired.

nick5354ParticipantTo be clear, he is worth a chance for a last roster spot, on a non-guaranteed deal. How is that something to get a GM fired?
It would get GMs fired to throw a 1st rounder at him, not to give him a shot with no risk?

imAboutDatActionParticipantOP, are you sure his deal is guaranteed?
I read nothing saying that. Im assuming its a training camp deal.

JoeWolf1Hancock is 6’6”, a Final 4 MOP, and he shot 37% from 3 point range during the summer league. I have no problem with him getting a training camp deal. Probably not going to be much of a factor next year, but worth a flier.

benny15Participantreally? dont they have enough wing men on the roster? i mean they signed Vince Carter who i thought would take Mike Miller’s touches and shot attempts, will have a training camp battle between Courtney Lee and Tony Allen for the starting 2 guard spot, and they drafted Jordan Adams who has looked good in summer league. they still have tayshaun prince on the roster as their starting small forward as well and have pondexter signed for another 3 years after this who actually had some solid outings for them last year as a 3 and D player.
even if we dont expect adams to get much minutes in his rookie year, thats 5 rotational players in the swingmen positions. thats a lot of depth just in case veterans VC and Prince miss time or something. i think getting buddinger would just cause more logjam at the position. id rather keep the team as it is right now with 14 players on the roster. keep 1 spot open for training camp.
