I matched up the top 5 last picks of the draft who play in the NBA versus the 5 best current NBA players who were not drafted. Who do you think wins in a 7 game series?

    Team One: Last Picks
    G-Isaiah Thomas
    G-Alex Acker
    F-Cory Jefferson
    F-Maceo Baston
    C-Robert Sacre

    Team Two:Undrafted
    G-Jeremy Lin
    G-Wesley Matthews
    F-Udonis Haslem
    F-Reggie Evans
    C-Chris Andersen

I would have to go with team undrafted definitely.  Isaiah Thomas is the only guy on team one that has done anything while team 2 has solid guys who have played.in the league for a while and of course you can’t go against the enforcer Reggie Evans.

Obviously the undrafted group is much better (the players at every single position except, probably, PG are much better), the pool of successful undrafted NBA rotation players to choose from is just way way bigger than the number 60 picks.

It would be fairer (and more interesting) to compare, say, undrafted NBA players vs. players picked 55-60 (very late picks). But I’m afraid I’m not willing actually put in any effort to actually make up starting lineups.

If you are using picks 55-60 in the last 5 drafts, you could have a starting five of..

Isaiah Thomas (#60) Peyton Siva (#56) Darius Johnson-Odom (#55) Cory Jefferson (#60) Jeremy Evans (#55)

Not a great starting line-up, but better then the team with all last picks. I would still probably choose the undrafted team in a 7 game series, but it would be a competitive series…at least more then all the last picks.

Well, if you go back a bit (to 2002), you could take guys like Luis Scola, Amir Johnson and Marcin Gortat, also Ramon Sessions

Isiah Thomas (#60), Ramon Sessions (#56), Darius Johnson-Odom (#55), Amir Johnson (#56), Marcin Gortat (#57)

This team is actually not THAT terrible

Also, I’d have the undrafted team a bit more like:

Jose Calderon, Jeremy Lin, Wesley Matthews, Reggie Evans, Chris Anderson

There, so the 55-60 team looks a bit better, but the undrafted team could win, Matthews would probably dominate Johnson-Odom

It’s kind unfair for the last picks team because there is only one last pick per draft, whereas there are mny many undrafted players each year. This leaves a higher probability of having a better undrafted player simply because there are more of them.

Yeah I agree with everyone else because team undrafted sweeps this series. Open it up to 55-60 picks and we can try this again.

Or you could do apples to apples and compare the last pick to the first pick
