BajeebzParticipantHey I know this is a bit of shameless self promotion, but I recently got this volunteer gig with FanSided and Dunking With Wolves. Nothing too crazy, but I wrote a piece on my perceptions of Andrew Wiggins over the last five years. Check it out if you get a minute:

And if this is something that interests you, feel free to apply with the various websites. Its pretty fun.
Thanks for the traffic, and have a good one.

BoundByInkParticipantIt’s going to be so much fun watching Rubio throw lobs to these guys. If Rubio ever breaks out into the player we hoped for, this will be the year.

BajeebzParticipantit’ll be fascinating to follow the roster moves leading up to the season. It seems like Flip wants to stay competitve and develop the young guns at the same time..a tricky balance for sure.

BoundByInkParticipantIMO…..I would rather keep Bennett and move Martin for Young. We got plenty of wing players. Maybe try to dump off Barea aswell. BTW…article was great.

BajeebzParticipantThanks, and I agree. Right now we have too many wings and not enough minutes to go around.

aztwulfParticipantBut just plain too many players (16) under contract, assuming the trade goes down as Woj said. Bennett, Pek, Gorgui, Turiaf, as 4’s and 5’s. Rubio, Williams, JJ, Shved, Lavine, Martin as guards. Brewer, Wiggins, Budinger, Shabazz, Prince Luc, and Hummel as guys who mostly play SF. There has to be some kind of 2:1 or 3:1 trade just to get the numbers right.
The team needs at least one more PF, and maybe even a tweener guy who can play a little SF and PF. So yeah, some SF-SG types need to go. Shved, Barea, and Luc are all starting the last year of their deals and should be the easiest to move.
I am not enamored of a one year rental for Thaddeus, especially if it means we have to ship out the Miami first, our first, or Bennett. Unlike many, I would like to give Bennett a chance, just in case he figures it out. If Philly would send Thad out for some combination of 2nd round picks, a couple of short contracts like JJ and Shved, and maybe even GR3 or Shabazz, then I would be fine with trading with Philly. Otherwise I would prefer some FA stopgap and find someone in the draft, or FA, next year. This year is pretty much rebuilding anyway.

aztwulfParticipantBut I think Flip is looking at it from the point that he needs a little veteran leadership, and someone who can score. The only two guys on the team that have a scoring mindset are Pek and Martin. JJ and Shabazz like to shoot, but both are pretty inefficient.
Lavine and Wiggins are going to find that NBA defenses are a lot tougher than either are used to. Bennett didn’t shoot that well last year in Cleveland, and wasn’t anything special this summer.

TimberTrollParticipantThe minimum team salary requirement is 90% of the salary cap, and would mean Philly is approximately 25-30 million away from that threshold. Keep in mind that they don’t need to meet that requirement until the last day of the season, and also, the only punishment is that they have to pay a fine to the league for the amount that they don’t meet. With all that in mind I think that if Philly would take on Barea, Shved, and Mbah a Moute then a Bennett for Young swap would be fair. That would be nearly 10 million for Philly to take on, but considering they are so far away from meeting the threshold I think this could work. The deal could get even messier considering the Wolves don’t really want Martin, Brewer, Budinger or Turiaf either, and have Muhammad to use as a bargaining chip. I don’t know how the trade with Philly will go down, but if it simply Bennett and Barea for Young, then I will not be happy.

Numbers_CruncherParticipantThaddeus Young is a proven player and Anthony Bennett certainly isn’t, but given Bennett’s promise and Young’s contract situation I’m going to go out on a limb and say that Philly would do a Young for Bennett and Barea deal in a heartbeat. Minnesota will try to get rid of Shved and Mbah a Moute and Philly will counter with Muhammad. I doubt Muhammad will be going anywhere though.

TimberTrollParticipantIf Thad Young agrees to opt into next season than I can see the Wolves also giving up Muhammad.

TimberTrollParticipantErik Murphy will also likely be part of the trade of Love to Cleveland. He has a non-guaranteed contract, but he would almost certainly fit in nicely. Also, ideally the Wolves would hold onto Muhammad and let Philly have the pick from Cleveland.
