tuck243ParticipantI ask because I wondered if the Wolves would’ve wanted Jabari over Wiggins… Cavs picked Wiggins without (from what we know) knowing LeBron was coming… And now they turned that into Kevin Love…
Then I thought about the Hornets getting Lance in Free Agency, would they draft PJ Hairston still? What about the Suns? Would they still draft Ennis if I.T. was also there? Or Zach Levine, would he be in Minny if Wiggins was already there??
I checked (somebody correct me if I’m wrong), the NBA is the only major sport to have their Draft before Free Agency… Why?

IhateusernamesParticipantAlot more trades would hapoen because teams would use most of their cap space on vets forcing them to trade their draft slots.
I think that would do more for competitive balance than the lottery system

NeggedAlterEgosAlterEgothis topic was tackled a few times and the teams will always have enough money for rookies its a giving.
Why cant free agency start two weeks before the draft, it would help teams build their team way smarter. I don’t think th rockets would have drafted capella nor the lakers drafting randle.

Chilbert arenasParticipantWould the Suns have drafted Ennis if they knew they were getting Thomas?

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantI can’t remeber where I read it but Sam Amico might have hinted it in one of his chats.

MopgrassParticipantI don’t entirely disagree. One issue would be that it’d be much more obvious what position each team would need to draft for. I don’t know how important that would be to teams. Also, the current schedule really coincides with the school year, which is helpful for draftees deciding their future. If you have the draft later, it’s at the end of summer when kids are going back to school. If you’re deciding on returning to school or not, you’re giving the school zero notice and college coaches won’t know what type of players they’ll need to recruit. Perhaps that’s less so the NBA’s problem.
