LeBron has decided to go on a low carb diet this summer and dropped SIGNIFICANT weight… I don’t know about y’all, but I don’t see how this will help his game… What made him so great was the speed combined with the size and strength.. Now? Smh… Just a normal 6’8 athlete he looks around 210 now…  What you guys think?

He’s approaching his 30s. He’s been around 250-260 for about 4-5 years now and he’s been running up and down the court, falling down/taking dives. Do you know what that does to your knees/back?

The man is simply adapting to the game. Next, he’ll be developing his fadeaway and his perimeter game. It’s very smart on his part.

Even if he went down to 235 he’d still be the most physically imposing athlete at his position in the league.

Also, he’ll still be just as strong after all that weight loss. Just because you cut weight doesn’t mean you lose strength. I agree with SpartanGlory.

Cutting out that much carbs and dropping weight is dropping ALOT of muscle…  Bench wise gonna take a small hit, but that brollic strength of moving folks isn’t gonna to be as big to me…  That’s like 90% of his scoring game! his physicality….  He’s not a gifted scorer like, Kobe, KD, or MJ…  They are finesse guys…  I really thought his mid 30’s was gonna be like MJ or Magic…  Strictly post work…

I never said he had a high % of fat. Where in my post did I say that?

Also, this is in context of professional athletes (specifically a very strong Lebron James), they hardly lose much strength with weight loss. To truly lose strength, you have to stop working out or have dramatic weight loss. 20-30 pounds is nothing to a guy that is/was 260 for years.

If Lebron was around 260 and 8% body fat 2 months ago and lost 30+ lbs by taking out carbs (what gives you energy for your strength), HOW did he not lose muscle???  You don’t drop that much weight in that short span of a time and not lose muscle or strength…  AND we talking about an athlete that was already around 8% body fat…  No matter how fit I am, I won’t be able to out lift a guy that has 30 more lbs of muscle than me…

“You don’t drop that much weight in that short span of a time and not lose muscle or strength…”

Kevin Love Lost more than 20 pounds a few years ago. these are his words ” I feel better than I ever have. For the first time since my freshman year in high school (2003-04) I weigh under 240 pounds, and my strength has consistently gone up”

Josh Smith also lose 25 pounds a few years back.

This is form an article a few years back.
Josh Smith showed up to training camp a different guy. He weighs 225, the lightest he has been since turning pro in 2004. After only a few days of drills, coach Larry Drew said, “He’s getting off his feet a lot quicker, getting to the rim and exploding, even more than he has in the past.

This will help LeBron more than it takes away form him.

That is not common sense. Lebron James at 220-230 is still stronger than most SF’s in the league.

I think you should read my first reply. This weight loss move was to reduce the wear/tear on his knees and back. I also added that next he will be working on his fadeaway and perimeter game. That implies he’ll likely be doing that A LOT more in the future rather than barreling into the lane.

That’s a lot for a player in one off season…  His biggest attribute was his size/strength…   I’m not saying he won’t be strong, but you talking about a guy that will be forced to settle for jumpers some more..   He shot an all time high in FG% last season…  I’m sure it’s gonna drop some this year…  I felt like his game was improving, but his mid range game or his handles isn’t good enough to be a finesse player…  I hope it works out, but I really don’t see how this helps…

I think you guys are forgetting one thing. Lebron at 250-260 while in Miami had to play a lot at PF. With the expected arrival of Love and TT at PF, Lebron will no longer need the extra bulk to play PF.

And while losing 20-30 pound may effect him on some continuations and some and ones, he gains much more in endurance. Which he will need, especially to play defense. His future Cav team doesn’t have any great defenders and his 2 way dominance will be more vital than ever.

As well as the fore mentioned reason of his age is creeping up and the knees and back will certainly be better off in the long run for it.

Lol thats not fair. Intriguing and yes I do find it funny but those are very strong implications.

I dont like talking or thinking about steriods potentially in the NBA. When I learned that wrestling entertainment television like ECW, WWF, and WCW is scripted I never watched it with the same enjoyment.

The MLB’s history has a decade at least of baseball that they have to erase hall of famers like Mcgwire, Canseco, Sosa, Bonds and Rodriguez and market the fun and simplicity out of guys like Derek Jeter (who I agree is a legend).

Im not implying anything but imagine how you would feel if a similar thing happened in the NBA and we learned Kobe, Lebron, Shaq and a good list of players did steroids. That would be devestating. Id rather they just kept it to themselves.

The report says he has lost 10 pounds so far. I think it will benefit him in more ways than it would hurt. 10 to 15 pounds still allows him to be just as strong, maybe a little quicker, and will take more stress away from his knees and back. I am 6’2, went from 195 to 185 and I got stronger in doing so,not to mention I have a lot less pain on my lower back and knees. Your acting like he wont be the force he is now just because he is a little lighter.

I think this might actually come back to hurt him, there are guys like Kawhi Leonard (I keep wanting to type Paul George – depressing) who can handle him on the perimeter but pick up fouls in the post, but without his significant strength advantage I’m not sure how he’ll negotiate those match-ups, because he isn’t a very skilled post player in terms of footwork, just very strong/quick.

Also, I think it’s interesting that he’s bucking the trend that MJ set by bulking up as he got older so he could bang more in the post and not have to rely on his athleticism.

It’s an interesting development, but Lebron looks like he’s lost a hell of a lot of weight and I’m not sure if he’ll be able to get it back if he finds his performance suffers.

is enough evidence to show that LeBron is skilled in the post. Yes, his strength did permit him to handle weaker players. However, LeBron will adapt in the post with less weight. He’ll develop that hook shot and he’ll develop a fadeaway. I expect him to be more of a high post player later in his career.

Lebron at 230-235lbs would be insane! And to be honesty, it’s kinda scary to think he’ll be just as strong and Maybe faster and may even increase his leaping ability! Smh losing that type of weight may look funny, but I think he adds more positive years to his career.

so far from reports he’s lost 10 lbs.even if he dropped down to 230lbs he’ll be just as stronger.he entered the league at about 230-240lbs and was a beast.he’s smarter and stronger now.the less stress off his knees and back is going to prolong his career.

This isn’t a big deal at all. I think most would agree he may have picked up a bit too much muscle for his position. He was probably between 265-270 at one point.  I’m very sure he’ll be sitting around 250 by the time the season comes along. Just because you dropped weight doesn’t mean you’ve dropped strength.  He will be fine and like many have said this will help his career in his 30s.

Though as someone said he’s losing weight to gain endurance to guard perimeter players. If that’s the case then it is silly. Just keep Wiggins!!! lol. I know not gonna happen but he and Wiggins on the perimeter would be nuts and over the next few years Wiggins could take over.

But anyway, yea, Lebron was 240 out of HS and he won’t be approaching that. He will be at about 250 which is about 15-20 pounds more than most SFs. Plus he is almost 30. You get stronger as you get older. You know how to use it better. I don’t care how much bigger and stronger Kawhi Leonard gets this off season, Lebron will still have his way with him in the post. He’ll still command a double team down there. It’s a non issue this weight loss.

I can bet Lebron at one point was 275.  That’s a lot of weight to be carrying around with the way he plays.  This is a great move for him to drop the weight.

It looks like he’s lost way more than just 10 lbs judging by that picture. He looks almost half the size he did just not too long ago in the Finals. Crazy…

I think it’s a great idea to lose weight to ease the pressure on his joints/back, etc, but a lot of his game is built around bullying defenders driving to the basket. It’ll be interesting to see how or if this changes his game.

Crazy to see him look this different compared to just a month or so ago.

I lost 40 pounds in a year and a half and became twice as strong. He will be ok. If he did it right he should be ok.
