According to CBS Sports, there is a handshake deal reportedly sending Andrew Wiggins and Thadeus Young to Minnesota, Kevin Love to Cleveland, and… get this… Anthony Bennett to Philadelphia.

It would be a win-win-win trade… which is rare. The trade is only a handshake deal, so someone else can still swoop in. There also might be some other parts to this.

I mostly love this trade for Anthony Bennett. He’ll really get a chance and if he goes 0-16 one night, he’ll still be allowed take as many shots s he needs the next day because, well, who else is going to shoot for the Sixers?

PG Michael Carter Williams SG (next year’s pick?) SF Anthony Bennett PF Joel Embiid C Nerlems Noel.
    Fun.

I was really hoping Cleveland would keep Wiggins and have LeBron mentor him.  If Wiggins developed well that partnership would’ve been deadly.  I guess myself (and surely some other people) will always wonder what could have been.

I was hoping the same but this trades make them immediate contender. I see trade growing to be large 3 team trade with Philadelphia acquiring Bennett and eating a couple of Minnesota contracts. Based on ESPN Trade Machine I could see something like:

      Cleveland gets- K Love 15.7 million, G Dienng 1.4 million, G Robinsson (unsigned 2nd round pick .8k) = 17.9 million
Cleveland trades- Wiggins 5.5 million, Bennett 5.5 million, Thompson 5.4 million+ non guaranteed fillers J Lucas 1.6 million, E Murphy .9 million, M Thomas .9 million =19.8 million Net Gain of 1.8 million in cap space

Minnesota gets – Thad Young 9.7 million, Wiggins 5.5 million, Thompson 5.5 million, 2015 Cleveland 1 st round pick (might be Miamis or Memphis) plus 3.4 million in non guaranteed filler contracts (J Lucas, E Murphy,M Thomas) = 20.7 million
Minnesota trades- K Love 15.7 million, C Budinger 5 million, JJ Barea 4.7 million, G Dieng 1.4 million, G Robinson .8 million = 27.7 million Net Gain of 7 million in cap space plus future 1st round pick from Cleveland after cutting non guaranteed contract

Philadelphia gets- Bennett 5.5 million, Budinger 5 million, JJ Barea 4.7 million = 15.2 million
Philadelphia trades- Thad Young 9.7 million Net loss of 5.5 million to receive another high 1st round pick in Bennett to go with Noel, MCW, Embiid, Saric.

For Cleveland- I have not heard T Thompson name attached to rumors but he is in final year of contract and they traded the other Canadians on the team and have K Love and K Irving max contracts to deal with next year so I would try to get the reasonably contract of G Dienng as he fills a cheap shotblocking center need as they will have K Love (traditional) and James,Miller (small ball) that can play PF minutes. They use cap space to fill remaining roster spots with Shawn Marion and Ray Allen. Lineup-Irving, Waiters,James,Love,A Varejo Backups- Delladova, Allen, Miller,Marion, Dieng. Bench-Jones, Powell,Haywood,Joe Harris, G Robinson

For Minnesota- They rid themselves of a couple bad contracts and gain K love stretch 4 replacement in Thad Young. Wiggins is the prize but replacing Dienng with Thompson gives them another option at power forward.

If I were the Wolves I’d rather keep Bennett than pick up Young. Keeping the two Canadians together only increases your odds they’ll stay with the team.

If this is true I don’t get why teh wolves don’t take Bennet. It’s not like they are in win now mode and after this trade goes down they are one of the worst offensive teams in the league.

All this drama just for Philly to get one more highly touted front court player and the Wolves basically just get Wiggins???

Not really a good deal at all if they could have gotten Bennett/Waiters/Thompson on top if there aren’t picks involved. For my understanding the Sixers need to give away another asset or a pick to the Wolves.

The 76ers have all the salary cap space, they can take a player or two that Minnesota don’t want, plus Cleveland got the expiring contracts to send to Minnesota too.  So Budinger could be moved, Barea too.

Minnesota are trying to win, to sell tickets, so T Young instead of Bennett works for them.

I agree with you about the salary cap situation on the Sixers but I really don’t see the Sixers adding even more players wild only giving up on Young who is not a bad player but if the Wolves want to get rid of Budinger/Barea/Martin they need to send out more players or picks.

And the Wolves won’t win nothing in the West for the next at least two years with Love gone. If they really think Young helps them win games next year they are living in a dreamland. This is a clear rebuilding situation and if they think competing is the right thing to to they will be mediocre for years again but hey it’s not like they did well in the past with multiple draft picks and the talent they had.

If Bennett can be had for a Thad Young Typenschild player I don’t know why the Celtics don’t try to get into this trade offering Bass and/or Green. I wonder how many negs a poster on here would receive if he proposed a deal where the Wolves only get Young and Wiggins in return after Cleveland offered Waiters/Bennet and Wiggins.

Don’t worry, they’ll be more to this trade. For sure Barea, and Martin will have a new home. Martin was an Adelman player and will not be with the Wolves after this trade. And Barea is going somewhere because Flip just signed Mo Williams.I think Flip will keep Budinger, he’s more a Flip type of player.
And then you have the 3 players CLEV traded for with the non guarded contracts. A couple of them will be included in this as well. And I could see Shved and Mbah a Moute maybe going in this one or a separate trade.
Should be exciting times. 18 days to go!

If that’s true I would suspect Kevin Martin would be sent to the Sixers. Otherwise, how do they get Bennett for just Thad Young? I suppose draft picks could be involved, but I’d be shocked if the Sixers would give up one of those.

Bennett will never be a small forward. He’s too fat to defend sf’s and he doesn’t have nba 3 point range.

There is more to this deal than the OP offered. Picks and more players are involved, no way ‘Sota gives up Love for Wiggins and Thad. If the Sixers end up with Bennett (yet another high upside young player) for Thad and take on a few bad contracts, that’s not a bad way to use some of that cap space.

Why would the Wolves trade the guy who would make Wiggins feel more comfortable being in Minnesota?  Wiggins and Bennett are friends, you have to keep them both.  Wiggins to Toronto in 7 years confirmed.

Cleveland has to include another player or two. They are right at the cap and loves makes 15 while Wiggins plus Bennett is only 11. Is there another way to bridge the difference?

Just need to be within 5M for these teams in the 10-20M range of incoming/outgoing salaries.  Cavs have those expiring contracts from Utah (ex. John Lucas) if they need those to fit in other pieces.
