Andrew1984ParticipantIf the reported trade is consummated on August 23 and Kevin Love is sent to Cleveland for Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett, and a future first, then the Cavs would have some interesting personnel decisions.
At the two: With Kyrie, LeBron, and Love on the floor, it wouldn’t make a ton of sense to start Dion because he’s a scorer. Dion is going to have to choose between coming off the bench and scoring more points while some of the stars rest, or staying in the starting lineup but getting very few FGAs and seeing his scoring average dip considerably. The Cavs could start Mike Miller at the two, who requires fewer shots and has tons of playoff experience, while bringing Dion off the bench and actually playing him more total minutes than Miller, but they’d be taking a risk in allowing Dion to become disgruntled.
At the five: I’m guessing Brendan Haywood will be traded, but I could be wrong. Regardless, he’s probably not a starter. So it’s between Tristan Thompson and Anderson Varejao. Being a LeBron favorite and the savvier of the two, I’d guess Varejao would start at the five and Tristan would be the first big off the bench and would play almost equal minutes to Andy. They’re both scavenger bigs.
If Love were in foul trouble first, he could also step in at the four. Dwight Powell will get a chance to be Love’s understudy and will probably see some garbage time minutes here and there.
Matthew Dellavedova was a nice surprise last year, but on a team loaded with talent, he’ll probably vanish. That’s another reason to bring Dion off the bench. If he’s coming in for Kyrie, he’d play the one, and if he’s coming in for Miller, he’ll play the two. But I have a feeling he’s going to get his way.
James Jones will probably pick up sporadic minutes spelling LeBron, Miller, and Waiters, but could potentially disappear for games at a time, and just as easily reappear and hit five treys in a game. Joe Harris will probably end up in the D-League or charting shots on the bench.
While the Cavs may be tempted to package Dion and Tristan for a more formidable five and then just start Mike Miller at the two, I think they’ll view that option is too much tinkering and stick with what they have.
In terms of a playoff rotation which is typically shortened compared to the regular season, think they’ll ultimately go with Kyrie-Dion-LeBron-Love-Andy with Miller and Tristan off the bench and the occasional Dellavedova, Jones, or Haywood sighting.
Any thoughts?

treytalkssports.comParticipantIf Brewer is included in the trade, then he might start.
Also, some I read an article recently that said that some GMs thought this deal was growing to include other teams and other players. Don’t start planning the rotation until you see what else the Cavs might have to give up.

WolfRobParticipantAnyone think Joe Harris could get some minutes this year? He could provide Lebron with some valuable floor spacing. I think that was a highly underrated draft pick.

ballislyfe25ParticipantI think he could get some minutes. Played well in summer league and has the ACC background to help. Here is his gamelog for the 2013 calendar year, some impressive games for sure:

ChoppyParticipantIf Dion Waiters plays the 1, the Cavs are in big trouble. Delly should get first crack at being Irving’s backup. Not saying he WILL be Irving’s main backup, only that he should be.

Memphis MadnessParticipantIf the Cavs can get Dieng then this would be a good deal. A team with LeBron, Irving, and shooters needs an athletic, shot blocking center.
I almost want to say that if the Cavs could just get Dieng somehow (Haywood and picks) they could have a good young center to go with LeBron, Wiggins, Irving, and Waiters. Then Mike Miller would fit in at the 2 since they have defense on the front line (LeBron, Wiggins, and Dieng) to cover his weaknesses.

Chilbert arenasParticipantWolves aren’t involving Dieng in any of these deals.
I like the idea of getting Harris some playing time, he can shoot, smart, and tough on defense, and will take pressure off the older guys to play big minutes.
Andy V. will be starting at the 5, TT is only 6’9.
Jermaine O’Neal would be a good option at the back-up 5 if relatively healthy.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantI will never get tired of typing "Screw Flip Saunders". Why let a team whose owner basically said Love is gone its a done deal, to dictate the trade.
If the Cavs back out at the last minute they hurt Minny. That threat alone plus having every game Love plays in a T Wolve uniform a PR disaster is why Minny is not the boss, or at least shouldn’t be.
Cavs: NBA’s most provocative team
Minny: Bottom 5, even with Love, must not see TV
Philly: Least, laid out plans to lose at least 50 games for 5 straight years
=
Cavs hold the cards or at least should, IMO. Cavs got hosed in the Jarett Jack deal so I would not put it past them to be rehosed for Love.

tuck243Participantbut most of that came from going against the second unit or tired starters… One thing I loved though is the improved 3 pt shot (not great shot though) which will give him some burn with LeBron… If he can get closer to the 38% mark I don’t see why he doesn’t start truthfully… I think he can be a good defender if he put his mind to it and with LeBron he’s forced to do that… I still think he starts until further notice…

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantHe averaged 19 points a game after the All Star game and started almost all those games. He played even better as a startr than as a back up.

Chilbert arenasParticipantI’m not a Waiters fan by an means but I think it’d be wise to keep him for the fact he can create his own shot and for others along with spacing the floor. The Heat got staggnent when Wade was out of gas and Lebron had to do everything on his own, Waiters won’t depend on Kyrie or Lebron to get his.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantWaiters Waits on No Man
The first time he tells Bron to cut while over dribbling up top he’s traded though. I can see him now waving his hand like "cut, cut" then letting the shot clock run out and throwing his hands in the air.

Memphis MadnessParticipantShawn Marion would be a great pickup for them. He can defend and rebound at either forward spot.
if they add Marion and keep Wiggins then they will have 3 great wings on defense.
They can start Marion and bring Wiggins, Bennett, and TT off the bench.
The Cavs would have 3 guys to throw at Durant with LeBron, Wiggins, and Marion. Then either guy could help out on Westbrook or Ibaka (along with Andy V or Haywood).
