I’m certain there has been 100 posts on this and looks like there may be a deal in place, but I really don’t get it for Cleveland.  Love isn’t re-upping with Minnesota and will become unrestricted.  Even if Cleveland trades for him he will do the same thing to test the market and max his money rather than extend.

Instead of gutting the youth of the team, why not let Wiggins and Bennet develop this year and get minutes and simply sign Love in the off-season, when he’s already acknowledged he wants to play there ?

I guess the point is why pay for something you can get for free ??  Is it just they don’t want to wait a year ?

    Thanks

To add to that; even when they lack the cap space next year they might be able to do a sign-and-trade with Minny, sending back some (more developed) talent. Seeing how Bennett played in summer league it is not a stretch to say he will improve his stock this year, especially combined with the fact that LeBron makes other players look better (e.g. think Gibson).

It sort of feels like they are being extorted by a team that really doesn’t have much leverage IMO

I agree with you. Everyone feels that just because Lebron came back that the Cavs now owe him. I’m not saying that trading for Love is bad because it isn’t. I really value Wiggins though and don’t agree they should give him up. To me he is can’t miss and will be a multiple all star and all defensive team performer for the better part of 10 years. Though the Cavs can’t sign him next summer, they could sign and trade for him but the value would be less(see Lebron and bosh to Miami deals).

The whole leverage that Minny has is timing. They are banking that the Cavs want Love in before the season to have the whole year to grow together. They are banking that the Cavs don’t want to make this trade mid way through the year and trying Love half a year and failing and possibly losing him.

Love if traded will resign though. There is too much money on the line not too and the opportunity is too great to win for him to chance the money.

To me I would do everything I can to not trade Wiggins and see of I can get Minny to feel the pressure of losing him for nothing. It’s a risk. I think the Cavs would be fine without him but if they feel they need Love then it needs to be done before the season to help chemistry.

There are so many angles to look at this whole deal, its enough to make your head spin.

You ask someone would you trade Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a 2018 pick for Kevin Love, most basketball fans as well as Coach K say "without hesitation"

You ask people do you do the trade if Love doesnt resign? The answers get shaky.

You follow up that question with, Do you honestly think Kevin alove would leave Kyrie Irving, Lebron James the rest of the squad and potentially 3 First round draft picks as long as the Cavs are willing to Pay him well. Its pretty obvious he wouldnt leave.

You can bring up the point Minny has no leverage

You can also bring up the point there is no way hes not traded SOMEWHERE by the trade deadline so you risk losing him.

You bring up the fact that Cleveland should wait until the trade deadline to see how Wiggins/Bennett plau, and someone will argue about how you cant build championship chemistry in 32 games.

You bring up that same scenario and you have another person argue what if Wiggins pulls an Otto Porter, what if their trade value plummets?

There are too many damn what ifs/buts/how come/why not scenarios in this trade and I am counting down the days until August 23rd so I can finally figure out what the hell is going on.

this has by far been the best love trade thread ever. ppl are using logic here  jcliff summed it up best.

we will find out if this month whether love a be a cav this year or next summer because their is mutual interest from both parties(love and Cavs).

Also a season with the current core a give a better picture of how these pieces fit with LeBron who does and who doesn’t who has to go and who has to stay!!

Does Anderson have anything left ? Will dion take a team role as a smith man if told to and excel.

great thread about this  minn doesn’t have much leverage. I’m glad its being admitted.

You promised you were done posting about Kevin Love until he was traded!!!!

You and Philadelphia can have all the leverage you want, but Minnesota will have Andrew Wiggins.

      So sorry 🙁

I feel that a lot of us are uneasy about a potentially elite prospect in Wiggins being traded away. There was so much hype about this year’s draft class and the Cavs got the choice of anyone.

You wonder why Cleveland didn’t look to pull the deal on draft night as getting K-Love in place would have made recruiting LeBron a lot easier.

A combo of  two out of Bennett, Waiters and Tompson plus a pick or two for K-Love would be a total no brainer for me to think the Cavs have got a good deal.

Plus the Cavs moved Zeller and a pick to Boston to try and create cap space before they really needed it. If you throw Zeller and that pick into a K-Love trade then the T-Wolves get extra nice assets too.

If K-Love had his mind set on the Lakers then I’m sure we would have heard noises encouraging them to get involved but outside of Randle they have few really attractive assets and the earliest first rounder they could send Cleveland isn’t for 4 or 5 years.

The wildcard if K-Love hits FA is the Knicks as I’m sure that Phil would make a pitch for him and I’m sure that K-Love’s advisers would find it hard to at least not listen to what Phil’s vision would be.

Houston could possibly look to get in the mix but apart from picks don’t have stand out young talent. The Bulls have also been mentioned but again it would be more complimentary talent like Gibson, Mirotic, McDermott and picks that the trade would be based on.

people still aren’t getting the whole "leverage" thing are they? if 3 teams want Love…MN has leverage. The demand for his services are desired by more than just Cleveland. The Cavs aren’t bidding against the wolves, they are bidding against like 5 other teams to secure Love.

This concept cannot be that hard to grasp. If Cleveland doesn’t offer Wiggins, they aren’t getting him. They wont be able to sign him next offseason because they have no cap space. He’s not taking a minimum contract or anything less than a max deal because teams like NY and LA will be knocking down the door for him.

If Cleveland offers Waiters, Bennett, anything besides Wiggins…the Wolves deal him somewhere else. Its that simple. For the life of me, I don’t get how people aren’t understanding that.

This deal seems like its already been done for a while though so it really doesn’t matter how greedy Cavs fans are. That franchise has been nothing but lucky since Lebron left and thinking they could get the best PF in the game for nothing but garbage is plain delusional.

Teams can bid all they want for Love – bottom line is after this season he can go play for whoever he wants.  The Wolves can sucker someone into over-paying for him but the team does it with no guarantee he is there for any more than a 1 and done.  If he wants to be a Cav he just goes and plays out the season, opts out and signs a Max deal with the Cavs next year.

You know who has the leverage ?  Kevin Love

I understand that T-Wolves have leverage but Cleveland’s offer is by far the best of any they are likely to receive and they are getting talent with upside from them. The Chicago deal would be good but again a lot of that would be upside outside of Taj Gibson unless T-Wolves decided to try and get Pau Gasol to pair with Pekovic and Rubio.

I will say that the T-Wolves won’t have to hurry as they will recall that Denver dealt Melo to the Knicks fairly near to deadline day in the year he could opt out and still got a good price for him. They can play hard ball for a few months yet and the onus is still on the chasing teams to get a deal done as it only needs a couple of creative GM’s elsewhere in the league to pull a couple of deals and other teams could be in a position to at least make an offer for K-Love.
