Ghost01ParticipantI want to start off by saying I feel bad for Paul George and the pacers. I get it, it sucks and there’s nothing you can do to change it.
Now I am of the mind that injuries can happen anywhere, and blaming the national team for an injury is stupid. And that’s what bothers me… These GMs and owners whining when stuff like this happens about how the FIBA tourney is unfair to their players.
So my question is this: why don’t said GMs and owners right into player’s contracts they are not allowed to participate in FIBA? It doesn’t seem that hard… If they aren’t violating their contract the teams have no case against it.

JoeWolf1I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a complete overhaul. I think Paul George’s injury is a complete game changer.
He’ll miss one entire season, and his absense may very well cause the Pacers to miss out on the playoffs and the revenue associated with those extra games. This injury sucks. My wife suffered the same injury and although it is an injury many have a 100% recovery from, it is a horrid and, again, a game changer.
It’s really bitter sweet for me, personally. I loved everything about the revamp of USA basketball, but the risks have been forced down my throat after last night. I wish Paul George nothing but the best, but I don’t think USA basketball will ever be the same.

llperezI brought this up last night in the USA scrimmage thread, mark Cuban has been upset with the international play for many years because the MBA teams foot the majority of the bill. I don’t blame him.

TyroberParticipantI hate blaming USA basketball because freak injuries happen and this was just one of those times. It completely sucks, but they happen all the time. He could have just as easily got hurt working out in a gym or playing in a pick up games with his friends. But to answer your question where do you draw the line OP? Should the players not be allowed to work out and practice at home? I just think it’s ridiculous to try and stop basketball players from trying to play basketball somewhere else.

llperezBut fiba makes millions of dollars on these tournaments. If they want to make the money, they should foot all the insurance if an injury happens. This isn’t like comparing a freak injury while practicing or playing pick up ball. It’s more like comparing them getting hurt while using their summers to play pro ball overseas and making money for an organization who then sends them back if they get hurt and says not our responsibility.

benny15ParticipantRegarding the OP, isn’t it already? Isn’t that why Anthony Bennett was pulled from a pro-am game this off-season? And isn’t that why 12 nba players who went to the Philippines last month couldn’t play a game in front of a sold out arena? I think that it’s already in most nba standard contracts that players can’t play in non nba sanctioned venues without proper permits and exception.
