Ch13f23ParticipantI don’t know why would Wolves pick Rubio and Flynn?? Could they play together? Why did they pass up on Curry??
Just think about it this way. Drafting 2 PG to be in your team? When Curry is still on the board why did they picked Flynn when they just drafted Rubio? I know Flynn can play but could he co-exist with Rubio on the court? And it’s more intriguing to see Rubio at point and Curry at SG. With Rubio’s court vision and Curry’s range it would be easier for Big Al and Love to operate inside. I just hope Ellington could open up some space inside for the two with his range.
And if Rubio stays overseas for another year or two Curry could still play the point for them.
I just hope my thoughts are wrong. And drafting Flynn and Rubio is what’s best for the Wolves.

no1ParticipantEverytime i look at the picks made and i see rubio and flynn both drafted by the wolves im in awe. It makes no sense at all. I agree like y didnt they take curry? They got 2 good players but both of them are pure PG’s flynn is 5’11 and rubio is 180 lbs PG. Im in awe lol.

Daprob89ParticipantThe Kings dont want Rubio or they would’ve selected him instead of evans but i dont kno WTF the twolves are doing this is the worst thing i ever seen a team do on draft day besides draft Darko over Melo haha

auberParticipantmaybe they forgot they drafted rubio

meisi4Participantideed stupid if not a bigger plan is behind this picks (read: a trade being planned)
i think the only player who will be worth trading is rubio because someone will like to gamble with his talent and give something useful for him!
maybe the knicks who were high on him all the time? sacramento didn´t want rubio so they will not make a trade for him but i think evans at 4 was a dumb decison as well!i think the best for minny would be to trade rubio and get a veteran for him… maybe the knicks offer hughes or harrington?

Daprob89ParticipantNaw they already stated Evans was the guy they were gonna take…
MY MOCK DRAFT HAD RUBIO FALLIN TO 5 BUT I DIDNT EXPECT THAT MOVE THEY PULL WITH THE 6TH PICK

MasrockRubio and his fa ggot daddy don’t seem to like Minnesota too much. Flynn is an insurance policy. Kahn is actually smart here. If Rubio decides to be a little bit ch we don’t lose out completely.

Masrockhopefully Rubio will do the right thing and sign with the team that drafted him.

knicksfan7ParticipantOkay, I know I might get heat for this, but I am going to say it anyways. Ricky Rubio with his draft antics, doesn’t he seem a lot like Steve Francis about 10 years who cried when he got drafted by Vancouver. Rubio has ppl doing it for him, but he truly wants to go to a big market team, but he’s not worth it. I think he has an attitude problem and is very immature. He has an unfair advantage where he can go back to Europe and join the league later w/o having to play for the T’wolves. College players can’t simply go back to college, and most future professional basketball players dream is to play in the NBA not go to Europe. Some of these top picks are ungrateful.

Meditated StatesParticipantFlynn is a starting point in the NBA. He is not an insurance policy, and if he was the Wolves are stupid. They have to trade Rubio or else this was a stupid move. Get a Veteran 2 or 3 to help them at those positions. Mchale would have done better, this guy is an idiot if there is not a big trade waiting.

Lodzio20ParticipantWhat??Flynn is insurance policy??no way…he is better PG than Rubio …They must tade Rubio
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/26/2009 - 1:40am #171770
MasrockFlynn is a fine player, but he is an insurance policy for the time being. Either that or we’re planning on trading Rubio. It’s one of the two. It’s a weird situation right now. I don’t what to fully make of it yet.
and don’t underestimate McHale’s stupidity. He would have traded Rubio for Hansbrough and filler by now.

meisi4Participanti agree with the francis rubio comparison he should get his head right and play for the team that drafted him anything else would be unfair. but i think with all the buyout issues and him probably not willing to play for minny together with this weird flynn pick the only logical thing to me is a trade: draft the player you can get a big deal for with rubio and then draft your needs with flynn and play him….
if they do and get someone good in return they will have done great and laugh at sacramento for not seeing this option. if not i think this will be another sad chapter in the history of this franchise

acantareParticipanti think its a case of drafting the best player available, i be rubio and flyn where the top 2 guys on there board when the 5 pick came up, now if rubio stays in europe for a year flyn starts and the following year they will be like toronto was with calderon and ford. If rubio bulks up maybe they play together but more likely one gets traded after playing together for a year. Think if flyn plays good this year then the following year rubio comes in and plays great of the bench then they can trade the established pg flyn for a starter.

darkman97ParticipantOkay I was very confused at the two true point guard picks back to back and imagine my disbelief when we grabbed Ty Lawson with 18. WTF. Even though we got rid of Lawson, I think that was a very dumb pick. But as I was stating, the wolves think Rubio was the best player available but there are concerns on if his buyout from his Spanish team will happen this year. There is a high chance that he won’t even play in the NBA this year. If not, then we have Flynn. I think that if you have concerns of Rubio playing here, then why pick him. We had a good chance to get three potential starters in the first round, but we got one position filled instead. I want Kevin McHale back. lol

acantareParticipanti dont think this was a draft where you would be looking to get 3 starters, at least not competative starters

birdman113Rubio to portland not sure what it would take but ive heard that they want him and im sure hed love playing alongside Fernandez.

WildDudeParticipantWow I dislike Rubio even more, thats kind of cheap if you ask me, just because he doesn’t like the T’wolves he decides to remain in Spain… they don’t enjoy the weather in Minnesota? Umm is basketball played outside? seesh
Now they’re looking like geniuses for picking Flynn a guy with loads of heart and talent and a will to win.

darkman97Participantacantare, I believe that Flynn, Earl Clark and possibly BJ Mullens or DeRozen could all be future starters out of this draft. When I stated that we could’ve gotten three starters in this draft, I didn’t mean they had to start this year. But given we are MINNESOTA each of those players are better at their position than anything we have now, since we have Telfair at pg, no center at all and have Kevin Love playing sf even though he’s a pf. I just hope Kahn knows what he is doing. But I believe we have 3 first rounds next year also.

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantProbably going to trade Rubio to a bigger market team.
0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/26/2009 - 10:36am #171927
piratejpParticipantThey aren’t going to trade either of them to anyone right away – they just bought a long-term investment. They probably expected, or at least aren’t disappointed to hear, that Rubio would return to Europe for another year or two. Flynn was the guy they wanted, along with either Evans or Harden. But with those 2 gone, plan B was to grab Rubio just for his perceived value at such a low pick. He goes back overseas, continues to develop & then next year or the year after, you trade him to a team in need of a PG with a high draft pick. He’s older & (hopefully) more NBA ready, plus another year or two only helps with the contract issue, and if they’re patient should be able to nab a player(s) that can really help them. You’ve never paid him a dime & he nets you a lottery pick in a year or two – not too bad. Even better, the guy they do have to pay they took a spot lower & so he’s cheaper. Or worst case, Flynn flames out & Rubio comes over to take his shot at PG for them in a couple years.
It makes sense especially if you look at their entire draft. They bring in a PG & SG for immediate help, they turn pick 18 into a pick in the same range in a better draft next year, they do the same with pick 45, and take a long-term euro player at 47. They wanted to add 2-3 pieces max in this draft, but they had 6 picks so they had to be creative. Rubio’s hype will likely only build with another year or two & they’ll get value for him eventually.
Or at least I think that’s what the plan is (and it’s a good one if it is) – only thing that makes sense to me.

auberParticipantHow can you call Ricky Rubio Steve Francis? Stevie Franchise didn’t fork over big money out of college to not play in Memphis.
To me drafting a point guard behind me at the 6 pick is the biggest slap in the face you can do to a player. I’m 100% backing Ricky Rubio on his decision to go back to spain and never play in the NBA if it honestly comes down to it.
This is just one of the many reasons Minnesota’s an Ass backwards franchise.

GreenLanternParticipantpiratejp seems to be one of the few who get what’s going on. you would have to be dumber than a moron to believe the wolves expect those two to start next year. flynn is a star that will anchor the team for the next 10 plus years, but the Rubio haters WILL be sorry in two years if he continues to develop from where he already is. Plus they got a role player in Ellington to play with their star frontcourt. This was NOT a great draft class and OKC ruthlessly took the best SG off the board, so with that considered, Minny did a solid job. There is even an ESPN article that breaks down how Rubio going overseas fits INTO Minny’s masterplan of trading him for really good pieces next year.

piratejpParticipantI had to laugh that Rubio’s camp obviously thinks threatening to go back to Europe for a couple years is somehow going to put pressure on the Wovles – he just saved them the trouble of asking/telling him to do it themselves. They want him over there.
