hbomb3300ParticipantAfter reading Zach Lowe’s article today I feel even more strongly that the draft wheel is the best option for the future. Every option for a lottery has major flaws that are simliar to the issues with the current system. How do we prevent teams from giving up during the season? How do we avoid a team getting too much luck in the lottery like the Cavs? How do we make being a bottom tier playoff team a good thing and not just viewed as a loss of lottery chances?
The only real issues with the wheel are that top level teams will get top 5 picks sometimes and bad teams won’t automatically get the best picks. This is a legitamate concern but in comparisson to the issues with other options I think it’s not that bad. Fans have shown that they enjoy watching or hating stacked teams. Wouldn’t it be interesting to see how great prospects blended with quality talent instead of trying to carry crappy franchises? The wheel would also reward smart teams who draft well even with picks outside the lottery. Plenty of quality starters have been picked outside the top 20. Also, as an added bonus when teams are trading picks they will know the exact pick they are trading instead of dealing with protections and wondering how the lottery will unfold.

BobbyqrsParticipantI like the draft wheel idea. My idea is that teams with the three worst records are disqualified from winning the number one pick. This way, the nba doesn’t reward bad teams and maybe teams will be less likely to tank.

burgessfourParticipantI like the idea of having the teams with the 3 worst records not being eligible for pick 1, I would even agree to slot them 4-6
