First off this is my first time doing this. I’ve been reading these for years. But after reading all these posts about K Love I just had to put my two cents in.
The people on here from Cleveland have to remember one thing. It doesn’t matter what you want or think. The only thing that matters is what L James wants. And he wants to play with K Love, not some rookie that’s going to take a few years to get up to speed. He doesn’t have years to wait for him.
Plus you’re getting a top 5 – 10 player. How often does a chance to get a player like that happen?
Another thing. You keep posting that the Wolves are getting the first pick in the draft from last year. Really? He was only the first pick in the draft last year because Cleveland was stupid enough to pick him number one. No one would have picked A Bennett number one. It was a complete surprise to everyone. So let’s get off the number one pick A Bennett, thing.
Philadelphia seems like a good third team in this. They have been rumored lately to like D Waiters. So lets try this.
    MN – T Young, A Wiggins, A Bennett,
    CLEV – K Love K Martin
    PHIL – D Waiters J Barrea
I’m thinking this is the main pieces, there are sure to be draft picks here some place, plus more players.
There’s a reason Cleveland traded for those 3 players a week ago, and I think it was for fillers for this trade.
It’s been to quiet on this front not to think most pieces in a MN, CLEV trade hasn’t been agreed upon. Adding PHIL to the mix would take a little extra work.
One last thing for all of you that have been saying Flip has no bargaining power. You are completely WRONG. He knows L James want K Love as a team mate.

I have yet to see the source of this Lebron James quote where he specifically says he wants to play with Love and that the Cavs should make it happen even if it costs them Wiggins. The only thing I remember is Lebron saying in his letter that he knows they’re a bit away from being legit contenders and that he knows it may take a year or two.

Until I see that quote or the trade happens, I believe the Cavs are going to give this roster a shot and it makes sense. Multiple playmakers, shot makers and versatile defenders to go along with Lebron.

With all respect to your sources but what I read there is no a quote from James saying he would rather play with Love than with Wiggins. I know the Net is full with things like that but I never read somewhere that James actually prefers Love over Wiggins/Waiters or whoever.

James is not stupid and knows his chances winning in the short run with Love is more likely than with Wiggins but I’m pretty sure he knows as well that 3 max contracts on the Cavs won’t exactly compliment building a stronger core than all those highly talented players on rookie contracts.

I believe it when I see it OR read somewhere that LeBron actually prefers the scenario above from his lips. What makes me really wonder why everyone is believing James has no desire playing with this young guys for one or two years is the fact he already chose to do exactly that when he signed there. The was no K-Love on this roster and he still chose them.

If I were the Cavs, I would go into the season wih this roster and you can still make moves later even if Love is not there anymore.

Thanks for posting the link and AW is a good source but I agree with XY. Lebron hasn’t come out and said he wants Love or he’ll walk. Granted, he probably wouldn’t do that.

Ive been saying this for awhile and I’ll say it again despite the disagreemts I get, the Cavs are only slightly worse this year without Love than they would be with Love and minus Wiggins, Bennett and whoever else. Then after they are at least as good if not better. I believe Wiggins will progress similar to Anthony Davis. Meaning his improvements from year 1 to 2 will be significant and by year 3 he’ll be a star. I believe that Wiggins and Lebron with Andy V makes them a top 10 defensive team and with Love probably middle of the pack.

I’m not saying it’s a bad trade idea. I’m not saying it can’t happen. I’m saying it shouldn’t happen and I’m not convinced it will. It seemed Lebron knew it may take a year or 2 for the and the young guys to mesh. Hell it took a veteran Miami team a year to completely mesh. I’m certain Wiggins will be more of a commodity by midway of his Soph season than Love is. Love is great and Cleveland can win a championship with him. However I believe the window is bigger and open longer for championships keeping Wiggins and Bennett. Bennett also still has a high ceiling as far as a two way player. He won’t rebound or spread the floor like Love but he can do both well enough while also adding a bit more shot blocking. I think they need to try it first before they blow up their young core.

When it comes to not wanting Love on the team, you’re in the minority. Coach K and a lot of other BB experts have said over and over, they wouldn’t hesitate to make this trade. You’re talking a top 5 player in the NBA. Not maybe will be one down the road.

I disagree he is top 5. He’s put up good stats on a mediocre team where his flaws are known but not talked about because the team isn’t relevant. His defensive struggles will be magnified immensely in game 6 of the conference finals. He’s a really good player. I honestly like Love and said they can win a championship with him but I think it’s more likely with Wiggins Bennett and co.

He’s not what Cleveland and Lebron needs. He is nice to have but not necessary. I’d rather have the youth and athleticism of Wiggins and Waiters on my perimeter than Love grabbing rebounds and not providing much rim protection.

I know im in the minority. It’s just my opinion. Hell Love could have a Dirk like impact on the team and I could be wrong but that’s not what I feel is likely. I feel that he makes them an extremely talented regular season team that will thrash a 7/8 seed and be pushed if not eliminated in the second round.

Although I think Kevin Martin would be a great piece to complement Lebron, I don’t think Minnesota would just throw him into this trade like that.  I think this trade would be pretty good without him in it at all

Kevin Martin was a Rick Adelman signing, plus they were desperate for a SG.  Now with rebuild and Adelman retired, the Martin contract isn’t appealing.  With Martin gone, the Wolves can give more minutes to LaVine at the 2.  Budinger and Shved can also platoon the 2.

If the Wolves can somehow trade Barea with Martin, and get Wiggins, Thad, and Bennett, then Flip deserves major props.

Cavs will not move Wiggins and Waiters. They need a good cost effective player at that position.

As a timberwolves fan I think that would be a good trade for them especially if Young opts into the final year of his contract because we would be able to dump martin and berea along with getting wiggins and bennett.

I’ll love to see MCW and Waiters play together…

But like others said, Cavs will give Waiters a chance with LeBron, Irving & KLove.

1+ for ur Great Trade, but will not happen.

after hearing that minny wanted thad young, i thought why not detroit offload josh smith and get in on the sweepstakes.  thad young and josh smith are similar type players so i came up with this idea…

detroit gets kevin martin, anthony bennett, georgi deng and a 1st round pick

minny gets andrew wiggins, kentavious caldwell-pope, josh smith and brendan haywood (as a salary throw in)

cleveland gets kevin love and glenn robinson III (as a cheap roster spot)

Wow you must be smoking something illegal, if you think MN is going to trade Deng. He’s already a better player than Bennett, and their not paying him a quarter as much.
      This one is pretty laughable.

well for one, it’s legal in colorado.

for two, you have 5 posts so you haven’t seen laughable.

for three, in a hypothetical trade like this to say it’s not going to happen because minny doesn’t want to trade georgi dieng…  georgi deng????  what are you talking about?  do you realize that pekovic is signed for 4 more years at $12M a year?  dieng was brought on to be a backup.

I think that Gorgui Dieng is a nice compliment to Pek since their games are very different.  Dieng makes up for Pek’s lack of shot blocking/rim protection.  And he’s got a nice rookie contract as well.  Perfect fit for the rebuilding process in my opinion.

No. Dion Waiters ain’t going anywhere. Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a ’15 first round pick is too damn much for an expiring guy, even if it’s Kevin Love. Philly just trying to get assets for free. Cleveland can get Love without the help of Philadelphia.

I love the comment about how we aren’t sure if Lebron wants to play with Love because he hasn’t actually come out and said he wants to.

If there wasn’t already enough collusion in the NBA, wouldn’t that cross the line?

Q: He Mr.James, do you want to play with Kevin Love or Andrew Wiggins?

LBJ: Oh I for sure want to play with Love. Wiggins is young and I don’t want to wait for him to get up to speed

No freaking sh it Lebron hasn’t actually been quoted for saying he wants to play with Love over Wiggins. Its called common sense. No athlete is going to say that before it actually happens. LeBron is a smart dude and the media considers it breaking news if he doesn’t wipe his arse good enough after a deuce. A quote that he wanted to play with Love more than Wiggins would go viral.

I love the comment about how we aren’t sure if Lebron wants to play with Love because he hasn’t actually come out and said he wants to.

If there wasn’t already enough collusion in the NBA, wouldn’t that cross the line?

Yea and if you read the whole thread you’d see where I said he probably wouldn’t say it. You’d see that I said thanks for posting the link where I read the AW report. And I’m fairly certain some athletes would say it. Kobe has spoken his mind on players and James Harden seems like he’s headed down that road. It’s not collusion if Lebron James said, "It would be great to play with a guy the caliber of Kevin Love." He doesn’t make the trades and can make an opinion.

Let me ask you this, does Kevin Love sign a 5 year deal or does he only want a 2 year deal? I know that Lebron signed 2 because of the CBA but what if Kevin Love doesn’t want to go long term either?

I think the reason we haven’t seen Lebron say he wants Love is because he thinks it may not get done or he doesn’t necessarily want to play with him while giving up assets and young guys. It’s Lebron’s world in Cleveland right now so if he said he wanted Love it wouldn’t be a big deal.

Just because Wiggins signed last week doesn’t mean he won’t get traded.  Due to his signing, you can argue that it actually becomes easier to trade him because his $5.5 million for the season is now on the books.

Wiggins agent, Bill Duffy, went to the same school as Flip Saunders.  University of Minnesota.

No reason the Cavs have to give up Bennett AND Waiters on top of Wiggins to get Love when Wiggins is by far the best thing they can get for them.

I want to start out I like the initial trade idea from the OP, but there are a few problems I see with it.

    (1) I do not see Thad opting in to the final year of his contract with Minny.  He is completly miserable in Philly right now, and the Wolves will be Sixers bad, especially playing in the West, if they make this trade.

    (2) The Cavs are giving up wayyy too much.  It is agreed upon that these are the pieces being sent out, but draft picks need to be included, too.  All the picks in this deal would have to come from Cleveland, because the Wolves and Sixers would not be looking to give any picks away.

    (3) This would put the Cavs in a tough spot financially.  Taking on Love with a max contract is one thing, but also having the Kevin Martin contract on the books would be brutal.  The Cavs would basically be locked in to the roster this would leave them with hardly any money to chase anyone else, and a team starting Kyrie, Love and Martin would need solid bench defense because that starting lineup isn’t stopping anyone.

I do think this is the right track, and believe a trade with Wiggins, Thad Young and Bennett will be at the core.  I can also see Kevin Martin being included, but think he would need to land with the Sixers, as they have plenty of cap room to eat his contract.  This trade is much closer I believe to what the final Love deal will be (if there is one) than we see most commonly, but these are just a few small problems I see.
