Lafferty DanielParticipantThis is the third summer in a row that I’ve been hearing that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is working on improving his awkward jump shot mechanics.
According to Hornets beat writers, Michael Jordan spent two weeks with MKG after the postseason to work on his jumper. Based on some limited video below, it actually looks like his mechanics are starting to improve. Adding a decent jump shot to go along with his defence, slashing ability, and motor could end the talk that he’s nothing but a bust. I’m rooting for him.
He’s in the background in this video:

He is playing some pickup with kids, but you can see the improved shot around 1:32 & 3:22.

Lotto StudParticipantThat’s Noah Vonleh in the first link, and his technique is very reminiscent to Harrison Barnes’ stroke.

Lafferty DanielParticipantVonleh is in the foreground, but MKG is shooting in the background.

Lotto StudParticipantI appreciate the clarification. After 2 strokes, I moved on to the next link before I even made an attempt to scan the vanishing point.
As for the second link. I really love what I see. If MKG can get enough confidence to make it consistent, I would like to think his scoring numbers should go up at least by 6-7pts more a game if he continues to work.
My question now, is why didn’t MJ do this all of last offseason?

Lafferty DanielParticipantGood question. I believe Mark Price was working with MKG last offseason. It didn’t seem to help though.

ph90702Different sport, but they said the same thing about Tim Tebow and his throwing mechanics. Once he got into game situations, his reverted back to what he was comfortable doing.

Lafferty DanielParticipantNo doubt that we need to see MKG in a legit game using the same mechanics as shown in the videos. I’m just excited because he’s a hard worker and wants to prove everyone wrong. MKG will never be a great shooter, he does have the ability to hit a 3 pointer a game, improve his mid-range game, while having solid D and the ability to attack the basket. I’m excited to see how he and the Hornets do this year.

ropeParticipantSeriously, how can you not find humor in a video of him playing against children. Yep, he looks like he has really put in the work. And you think Summer League play is a useless indicator?
Lighten up, Francis. I could hit J’s over middle schoolers and so could you.
