so now free agency is mostly wrapped up. Im looking at all the signings and I have some thoughts questions that IM curious what your guy’s take is. I know these are things that have all been brought in various threads already. So in no particular order:

1-Who was overpaid? What contract surprised you the most?

—I think gordon hayward and chris bosh are the two that jump out the most. Miami probably felt pressure to not let the whole thing fall apart and riles has a history of throwing money around. (110 mill for juwon howard. max deal for brian grant). My vote goes to bosh, 24 mill per year?

    2. Why did Lance stephenson leave indiana and did the pacers mess up not offering more?

—-stephenson left for basically the same money for less years to join a worse team. I personally think he can be an all-star and the bobcats got a great deal deal. But i have to assume he left becasue he just wasnt happy in indiana and didnt want to share the court with george anymore.

    3. How do you feal about the ben gordon deal?

——-the guy gets 9 mill over 2 years from orlando after averaging 5 points and shooting 34% from the field and 28% from three. There were guys who got veterans min money that are better then this guy.

    4. Who was worth more, eric bledsoe or kyle lowry? Is bledsoe asking for too much?

—–personally i would rather have lowry, but it’s super close. I think the 12 mill lowry got was very fair and bledsoe should have accepted the same 12 mill per deal the suns offered. But he declined and wants max. No way hes getting that this summer. He’ll probably have to play for the 3.7 mill qualifying offer and try again next summer, but that means he’s losing that 8 mill this year from the 12mill offer he turned down.

Feel free to add any other thoughts/comments.

Lance wanted more money, and even though this contract is about the same as what he would’ve got with Indiana, it is less years meaning when he is coming into his peak, he will be able to go out onto the market when the Cap increases, meaning he should be in line for a big 3rd contract.

I’ve heard that before, but I’m having a hard time seeing why bird would not have just offered less years then? He says he valued him greatly and hates losing him, well then why not keep him for 3 years instead of losing him?

I think Lance felt insulted by the offer and at that point decided he wasn’t going to be a pacer anymore, he then had to take the most lucrative offer available which I guess was charlotte.  In hind sight he may see that staying on the pacers was the more competitive situation but in the short term his anger at the fact they didn’t value him as much as he thought they should drove him to leave.

Just a possibility of the thought process on Lance’s part. this is not fact, no source, no nothing.

     1. Gordon Hayward is the most obvious one, Chandler Parsons deal is also a headscratcher for me.

Puzzling to me is Dwayne Wade’s new deal, to much money for a third stringer.

surprising in a good way is Dirk Nowitzki talking 25 million for 3 years.

2.Pacers offered 44 for 5 years and Hornets 27 for 3 years, so in per year salary it isn’t a big difference only Pacers lessen year deals were for less money a year.

Starting line-up Hornets:Walker,Stephenson,Kidd-Gilchrist,Zeller,Jefferson with Vonleh, Henderson, Hairston, Williams, Biyombo and Roberts being your bench guys.

I consider the Hornets bench to be better than Pacers one.

3.there are too many BS deal thismoffseason and this is one of them.

Jordan Hill,Jodie Meeks are exempels of others like this one.

4.lowry is a pure PG whist Bledsoe is an undersized SG, this needs a big PG next to him .

That why it worked in Phoenix White a big PG in Dragoc.

Lebron stuff aside, the Stephenson move to the Hornets is the most interesting to me. He could really blossom under MJ’s tutelage and he gives that team the potential perimeter star its been lacking for a LONG time.

    1.

    – Marcin Gortat. He’s already 30 years old and the Wizards gave him $60 million *guaranteed* over five years. No team options or partially/nonguaranteed years. The Wizards are going to hate this deal in two or three years.

    2.

    – Lance Stephenson was happy in Indiana and he and Paul George had no issues playing together. The issue was purely all about his contract. Stephenson and his agent wanted at least $11 million (or more) per season, which they weren’t going to get from any team at this point and Stephenson could only blame himself for that. Larry Bird came in at $8.8 over five years. Stephenson and his agent then asked for a shorter deal and this is where the problems came. Bird was willing to give a shorter deal, BUT the money went down as well. Stephenson ended up going with the Hornets 3 year $27 million offer instead, despite the fact there’s a team option on the third year. Stephenson is taking a gamble on himself, but it could definitely pay off. In my opinion, I think Bird screwed up big time. He should’ve given Stephenson $26.4 million over three years, with a player option on the third year. Stephenson was Bird’s guy, so it’s unacceptable that he lost him, especially to a lesser team. However, as a fan, I hope team chemistry is better because of this move and it’s one of those addition by subtraction situations.

    3.

    – Ben Gordon isn’t worth $4.5 million per year, but the 2nd year is fully nonguaranteed, so it’s not THAT bad. The Magic can either waive him or use him as a trade piece.

    4.

    – Kyle Lowry was definitely worth more. Eric Bledsoe is asking for too much considering he only played 43 games last season and he’s torn his meniscus twice in less than two years.

As long as your 7 foot and can walk your getting paided -Jalen Rose

And most centers are still useful at 35 only if  he doesn`t get injuried.

I don’t get the Jordan Hill contract, at all.  However, I did like their Ed Davis deal.  And than Mitch lets Marshal walk.  I still love them, but the Lakers are a mess.

Nowitzki and Gasol were both bargain deals. Luol Deng’s deal is excellent value especially compared to Parsons’ and Hayward’s. On the Dallas team, I’ll be interested to see if a lot of Parsons team mates start looking to him as the go to guy as he’s the highest paid guy on the roster. Likewise Hayward’s deal has possibly set a benchmark for guys like Kanter, Burke etc on the roster who will be due 2nd contracts in the next few years.

Lance Stephenson turning down two years guaranteed money still seems a bit strange, he hasn’t had the luxury of a big rookie deal or a big 2nd contract already so he’s gambling on his future a bit.

I’d be very interested to know if the Pacers could have structured his offer a bit like the Asik, Lin deals and maybe paid him more in years 3 to 5 when the likes of David West was probably off the cap or on a lesser deal. But would it have still counted as say $8.75 million aprox across each year of the deal.

Gortat’s deal for 5 years was generous given he is 30 now, okay he hasn’t got the miles on the clock some guys of his age have but a 4 year deal or team option in year 5 would have been much better IMO. Okay in year 5, he’s an expiring deal so has trade value but a team option in year 5 or even partial guarantee would have given the Wizards many more options and Gortat still got 4 good guaranteed years.
