According to HuffingtonPost.com sports columnist Jordan Schultz, the Suns are ‘considering’ making an offer to Detroit Pistons forward Greg Monroe in addition to re-signing Bledsoe.

While the Suns signed veteran Anthony Tolliver to a two-year deal earlier in the week, Monroe would seemingly be a better long-term fit to fill the void left from Channing Frye’s recent departure.

Though I like Monroe he doesn’t fit the Suns up-tempo style and aren’t we all expecting Detroit to match anything Monroe signs?

Monroe looks slow, but he’s pretty good in transition. Of course, he would be a better fit if he were a defensive anchor, but one can’t always have everything. I think he can play the 5 in Phoenix.

As a Suns fan, I’d be happy to get Monroe but I would not want to overpay for him to an extent that Detroit don’t match. The Pistons have fairly good cap room and won’t have to worry about Drummond’s renewal kicking in for a couple more years.

Has anyone heard if Monroe is angling for the 5 year deal or are they likely to save that for Drummond?

It does seem strange that Detroit didn’t just try to get Monroe resigned last summer with a similar deal to what Favours at Utah got.

they can afford to overpay they missed out on Eric Gordon  summers ago , missed out on major free agents this summer, lost fry , may lose Bledsoe , why not go get Monroe hes a good runner and ball handler for his size and can give the suns a option in the half court.

I don’t know why Cleveland isn’t considering Monroe as a plan B to the Love deal that is dying

It would have to be a sign and trade, wouldn’t it? I would think Cleveland’s cap situation might require that. Who would they send to Detroit in return? FWIW – I think Monroe plays his best ball at the 5.

He means through trade genius, just like they would trade for Love.

A waiters Thompson deal for Monroe I think looks nice. Waiters will get upset being the 6th man, which I could see good role for him. And Thompson cause Detroit will want the depth down low after loosing Monroe. Just my thoughts

I can see Waiters, Thompson, and a future first happening… Monroe is the most talented (highest upside) and steady of those players, and giving DET an additional future piece might let them bite.

however monroe cant spread the floor like Love, has no 3pts shooting. What benefits would they get to trade him?

Monroe would be a good fit for Cleveland but they would be reluctant to give up too much, Thompson would create the same problem for Detroit as he’d be competing with Drummond and Smith for minutes. Bennett could be a better trade piece but would the Cavs want to give up a number 1 pick for a guy whose level seems to be 16/10.

A lot of teams had cap space this year but only chased the very top FA’s and have one eye on the 2015 FA class and beyond so may not want to tie up too much salary long term on very good players like Monroe who are not at that all star level.

Even a team like Philly wil loads of cap space might see their long term frontcourt as Noel and Embiid so may not consider someone like Monroe on a long term deal.

Monroe will surely get offers soon but outside of Detroit I wonder if they might be shorter term deals.
