frogmanParticipantI know 99% of people on this site think getting rid of Wiggins for Love is out of the question but I could not disagree more.
I know the common consenus is that you don’t want to get rid of a future superstar and I get it, Wiggins will more than likely be great. But people are getting too hung up on the future. Cleveland has Lebron and needs to win now. If they get Love they are the favourites in the East for at least the next few years in my eyes.
Every single team (except seemingly the Spurs) have periods of contending and periods of bottoming out and when you are contending you go for broke. The Cavs have NEVER won a championship. Hell the city of Cleveland hasn’t won a thing for god knows how long. As a fan, I would rather my hometown team win a title or two then become bottomfeeders for five years than continually getting into the playoffs and winning series but never getting over the hump. The Cavs should be all in on the win now mode for the next few years and give Lebron the best chance to bring a title home.
Let future Cleveland deal with the mediocrity, but bring a championship home NOW.

NeggedNoelSaricwiggins hasn’t blown anyone away yet with his play.
what if the wolves want wiggins 3 to 4 pick and bennet and Tristan. and or/dion
they have to give up atleats 3 players to match contracts LeBron wanted to come and play with these young guys that’s why he mentioned them.
so what if minn doesn’t want to do a deal without getting most of the above?
who will plug the holes how can you win a ship this year if you give up everything and your future assets to improve next year in the draft? the reason he left Miami is they lacked talent yes they had a big 3 but depth was scarce.
I think both sides don’t want to do this deal sorry to say but the warriors have a better offera with the young prospect they have a klay, barnes, and david lee and picks offer is better and more proven.
the cavs players haven’t done much yet haven’t won anything we all know wiggins will take a long time to develop and when he does will he stay in minn after they waited so long for him o become great IF HE BECOMES GREAT another thing they already have corey brewer what if wiggins doesn’t pan out to be worth as much as love?
I don’t think these two will come to a deal ANYTIME SOON maybe never and if you want to trade love mid season on this young new team you might as well wait to sign him because being young, and having chemistry issues trying to compete for a ring with a new player trying learn the plays and playing with players like irving and LeBron will take time.
remember how the heat struggled at first the cavs will to and if they trade for love mid season the struggle will start back over.
I just don’t see it right now its not worth doing it yet for the wolves or the cavs.

220ParticipantIf Kevin Love was a good or great defender rather than an average one then Love would’ve already been traded before Lebron even went back to Cleveland.Love has undeniable offensive and rebounding ability, but at this point in his career he’s just a guy who puts up great numbers for a losing team.
Love could really screw the T-Wolves if he won’t commit to signing an extension with the Cavs or Warriors. Each team has already been reluctant to include their valuable players, Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson, and without a commiting to resign there is no way Wiggins or Thompson get traded.

Toronto16ParticipantIt would be a huge mistake on Cleveland’s part to give up Wiggins in a deal for Kevin Love. The defensive drop off they would have would be devastating. Imagine Cleveland gets to the finals (which is totally plausible in the weak east) and draw OKC in the finals. Lebron guarding Durant and Wiggins guarding Westbrook, Cleveland would have a punchers chance at winning a title this season.

IndianaBasketballParticipantAndrew Wiggins has tremendous defensive potential, but do you honestly think he’s going to come in and be an elite defender?
Come on… I watched him get blown by last night by a 3rd string point guard.
Wiggins has all of the tools to be an elite level defender, but it’s going to take him time.

———————————————————————————————————————————————If you think Wiggins will be great then recent history suggests he will have an immediate impact and be playing near an All-Star level by his second year in the league.
Look at all the other elite prospects who have come into the NBA after one year of college ball and look at what they did in their second year in the league (provided they weren’t injured like Greg Oden); Carmelo (20.8 PPG, 5.7 RPG), Durant (25.3 PPG, 6.5 RPG), Cousins (18.1 PPG, 11 RPG), Rose (20.8 PPG, 6 APG), Davis (20.8 PPG, 10 RPG, 2.8 BPG), Wall (16.3 PPG, 8 APG), and Irving (22.5 PPG, 5.9 APG). Those players also played at a high level in their rookie seasons as well.
Even less hyped players like Eric Gordon (16.1 PPG), OJ Mayo (18.5 PPG),and Tyreke Evans (20.1 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 5.8 APG), had excellent first season debuts while others like Demar Derozan (17.2 PPG), Brad Beal (17.1 PPG) and Kevin Love (14 PPG and 11 RPG in just 28 MPG) contributed massively by their sophomore seasons.
It’s not like Wiggins is going to be riding the bench for years before getting significant minutes and helping the Cavs win.
If you think the Cavs should rather go for the proven Love over the untested Wiggins that’s one thing, but to actually concede that Wiggins more than likely will be great but they should trade him is a bit silly. If they want to be contenders with Lebron for another 4 or 5+ years they can’t think short term.

Mr. 19134ParticipantYou are correct I hate when people think it’s going to take a prospect of Wiggins calibur they’re whole rookie contract to develop into a significant contributor.
However this situation is different because all the guys you mentioned above were pretty much handed the keys to the team in their 2nd year. Wiggins may never have the keys to the team, atleast not with Kyrie and Lebron there. It’d be a waste to use Wiggins potential as a 3-D role player there are numerous players they can sign or trade for to fill that void. And Wiggins doesn’t bring the versatility of an Andre Iguadola to become the ultimate glue guy if you would even want that for a number 1 pick.
This just isn’t a great situation for Wiggins to become the superstar he’s expected to be with Lebron there now. Think about it. The Warriors had to trade Monta for Curry to blossom. Granger had to get hurt in Indiana for George to break out. Jrue Holiday didn’t make an All Star team until the Sixers traded Iggy. Even the Wolves had to trade Al Jefferson to make room for Love’s blossoming stardom.
Bottom line if you can turn you number 1 pick into an already proven superstar that is just hitting his prime you do it, no questions asked. A trade involving Love for Wiggins is a win win for both teams.
The Cavs would still need a shotblocker but pairing Love with Kyrie for the next decade gives you the makings of a dynasty, and then you got the Lebron guy still…

NeggedNoelSaricright if you have a chance to contend for the next 5-8 years while you plan for beyond that you ride it out.
in 8 years kyrie will be 30 LeBron will be 37( kobe,Pierce, manu, jordan still had productive careers around this age) wiggins will be 27 love would be 33. not counting anybody else they drafted or signed or take a pay cut. still a productive core LeBron may have slowed down but would have changed his game by then around his limitations.
that’s dynasty and I think LeBron and love would take a paycut after 8 years to bring another player aboard.
I say hold on they will compete with or without love. everyone says now now now….what about as LeBron ages dion, wiggins, irving, those two future picks, chemistry could stretch lebrons careers. are we that near sighted ?we forget about the knicks gutting their roster for melo it failing now they have to do it over ? why not wait and sign him.

NeggedNoelSaricalso if they move Tristan and bennet in the offeseason to clear the pf spot and cap for love they can get back assets.
I think theirs a separate market for both Tristan and Bennet if they where to move them they can get some protected first from playoff teams or a player on a smaller contract or right or even second round picks.
then sign love will teams be willing to do deals with the cavs if this was to take place?, I doubt it nobody wants a power house to get stronger with more assets.

The question in my mind – is it a straight up one-for-one deal, if not, who are the other pieces ?
Thoughts ?

NeggedNoelSaricthat’s the hard part he is a number 1 pick with a lot of stock ….the cavs don’t want to move him but if they do why not a one for one ….we know the wolves want first rounder wiggins, bennet and more but who moves 2 number 1 picks ,two top five picks and two first rounders for anyone not named LeBron.
I don’t think the two will ever agree if wiggins is involved somebody would think their getting over on the other.
even with love theres a chance they wont win a ship this year. I would just wait one year isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things. wiggins is impacting the game on raw skill imagine if he developes under mike miller, ray allen, lebron, blatt, tyrone lue. I don’t think they will let this kid fail its the perfect situation for him to reach his potential how many number one picks who are raw get to learn the game under the best player in the league?
he doesn’t turn 20 until next year he has a lot of work ahead of him but we have seen how the defense and athletic abilities of khawi and George catapulted their teams into contention. why not keep him and sign love im sorry I just thank the basketball gods gave you something don’t mess it up I also like what bennet brings.
you can let Anderson enter free agency and target love move Tristan ,buy out ,cut,or trade felix move haywood. let james jones walk and that opens close to 15 million the cap will increase as well.
they can keep both bennet, dion and wiggins and still get love along with keeping their first round picks. along with signing andy v back afterwards with his bird rights at a cheaper rate.
how much leverage do the wolves really hold.
plus they can throw emeka okafor a bs deal and keep him for a couple of years.
they don’t have to do anything they will be top on loves list if he entere free agency.
whats one year? with wade, bosh, love the heat didn’t win a championship there first year so whats really one year in the grand scheme of things. who really expects LeBron to take a major drop off in one year? if anything he will get more rest then he has got in long time playing with the cavs and have less the burden of making things happen with kyrie at the pg.

—————————————Sure it won’t be open “forever” but it should be open longer than a year. And if Wiggins is going to be an All-Star player it’s probably going to be evident by his second season in the league as I mentioned above. If the Lebron window is open for 5 years (lets say until he’s 34 years old in the 2018-2019 season) then Wiggins will be a good running mate for him and Irving for 3-4 of those 5 years.

Mr. 19134ParticipantA lot of people are acting like trading Wiggins for Love shortens the Cavs window to win a championship which couldn’t be further from the truth. Trading for Love just opens the window immediatly while also setting up for a possible decade long dynasty.
Kevin Love is only 25 years old. Yes he’ll be 26 when the season starts but the guy has barely even hit his prime, he’s a hard worker whose going to become smarter and a better shooter still. Plus he plays a cerebral game like Dirk and Duncan meaning he’ll remain an All Star caliber player into his mid 30’s. And how many times do the Spurs have to prove you need great big men to win chips in this league. Lebron already tried winning a championship with Anderson Verejaou as his best big and we all saw how that turned out. I have no doubt that if the Cavs knew they would get Lebron they would of still drafted Embiid first despite his injuries for these reasons.
Also a lot of people are under the impression that the Cavs need Wiggins perimeter defense to be able to win. While Wiggins will be an immediate defensive presence, he will not be an immediate defensive force. He will block shots, and get steals, but will also pick up a ton of fouls and miss rotations once the real season starts doing those things. And for all the defense he brings right now he’s a liability on offense forcing too much and turning the ball over. Those are mistakes a championship team can’t afford.
So on offense what roles does Wiggins play? Does he just stand in the corner shooting open 3’s and make occassional cuts back door? Just off the top of my head they could sign Wesley Johnson to do that. They already signed Mike Miller to hit open 3’s.
But back to defence we think Wiggins defence will make the Cavs better. We think he’s going to know how to guard an NBA level PnR. But I’m sure the Wolves will be more then happy to throw Corey Brewer and/orLuc Mbah a Moute into the deal to satisfy the Cavs thirst for defence.
So what lineup looks closer to a championship now and in the future.
Irving(22), Brewer(28), James(29), Love(25), A.V(31).
Irving(22), Wiggins(19), James(29), Thompson(23), A.V.(31)
Remenber for all the talk about defence winning you still need quality big men, but even more important is basketball I.Q. The basketball I.Q. between Irving, James and Love would be impossible to stop, and Lebron would become even more dominant with Irving and Love spacing the floor. Also Love rebounds unlike Bosh, so Lebron wouldn’t have to crash the boards and instead could leak upcourt and catch a famed Love outlet pass.
