Chilbert arenasParticipantMarc Stein reporting the Lakers won the bid for Carlos Boozer. I suggested they put in a bid for him when he was let loose by the Bulls. Lakers have a need for scoring in the front court when Pau left. They also have roster spots to fill. I could see him driving Kobe nuts.

GrandmamaParticipantYes he will drive Kobe nuts, as well as every single Laker fan.

joecheck88ParticipantWhy? I would rather play Hill Randle and Davis at the 4-5 spots. Silly to me.

Magic JordanParticipantLakers continue to kick me while I’m down. Not that Boozer will help a team, but he probably won’t hurt them. I was holding out hope that the Lakers were determined to net a top 5 pick, and they still might. But all this does is take away minutes from Randle. Getting Randle minutes should have been the absolute top priority heading into the season. Instead they will start the season with 1 true center. And Randle, Boozer, Hill, Davis and Kelly…. 5 PF’s. One of which is Carlos Freaking Boozer…. can you find a worse example/mentor for Randle? They have 1 true wing in Nick Young who is more of a 2 than a 3. And about 5 PG’s. So let me do a quick depth chart as it stands now.
PG – Lin, Nash, Marshall, Clarkson
SG – KB, Young
SF – Crickets….
PF – Not enough whitespace.
C – Sacre
Obviously these positions will blend together, meaning Clarkson will play some 2, Kobe and Young will play some 3 and Hill and Davis will play some 5…. but geeze, don’t they know D’Antoni is gone… what if the next coach doesn’t enjoy playing people out of positions like he did?
After being a long time supporter/advocate of the Jimmy Buss really isn’t that bad train…. I am now the conductor on the he is absolutely clueless/get him the hell out of a management position train. I am sure somehow they think they "won" the bidding process.
Hopefully Boozer keeps regressing into the negative win shares portion of his career. That’s the only way this is worth it to me.
Someone talk me off this ledge.

llperezDon’t mind him, he is a laker “fan” who only bashes the team. It’s funny because in his mind all other laker fans who stick with the team through tough are delusional while him quitting on the team at the first sign of difficulty and openly bashing Kobe and kupchak who have both brought multiple rings to Los Angeles is the real fan.

MopgrassParticipantMaybe if they’re lucky Randle gets some minutes at SF. That’s obviously not his ideal spot, but it’d get him some extra minutes. Also, maybe at the end of the year a contender wants Boozer and they can get some okay prospect out of it.
These are the only positives I can find for the Lakers here.
Oh, and alternatively, maybe he sucks so bad he makes them worse (probably not).

AdamJCallejaParticipantLog jam at power forward, but I really don’t mind at this point. Lakers need to resign Wesley Johnson too, I think he’ll compliment kobe nicely.

HitsterParticipantI’d be interested to know how much they bid for him, the team haven’t really got a true C and the new coach will be limited on the type of frontcourt set ups he can run. I guess the Lakers are looking to do as well as they can short term and at worse they will have Boozer on an expiring deal like Lin and Nash so they might be able to pull some sort of trade near deadline day.

GrandmamaParticipant"ESPN unveiled it’s new start, real plus / minus, and Carlos Boozer ranked, predictably, as one of the worst players on the team as well as one of the worst PFs in the NBA. Want to know why we love Taj Gibson? He ends up being the best on the team."
Carlos Boozer is really, really bad
"He ranks 79th out of 89 PFs in the survey with a -3.79, and I doubt that surprises anyone. What’s shocking about this number is that it’s made up of a -3.74 on offense and a -.05 on defense.
Now it’s probably fair to note that if you are playing defense next to Joakim and Taj, both amongst the best defenders in the NBA then you’ll look a bit worse on defense than you really are, but I can’t truly believe that Boozer’s defense is just a shade below average.
What I can believe is that his offense has been horrible this season. He no longer can score in isolation at all, though truth be told, he was never that good at it for Chicago anyway. He draws no fouls, hits no threes, and shoots mostly fade away jumpers at a pedestrian rate.
When Boozer can’t score, he’s dead weight on the floor because he sure isn’t helping anyone defensively. That said, the Bulls need someone to chew up some minutes, and at least Boozer can do that better than Nazr Mohammed. Maybe."

UnbiasedObserverParticipantWell the Lakers are bogged down with several PFs now. Hopefully this doesn’t stunt Randle’s growth

ExumInfernoParticipantThere goes the idea that Randle and Davis would have breakout seasons. Financially, and to try to win a bit now with Bryant, adding Boozer does make some sense for the Lakers, but not a huge amount as Boozer has slipped on the offensive end.

llperezI like it. Lakers missed out on this off season but since they don’t have next years pick, why not add players like Lin and boozer who are on one year deals and won’t impact the teams future salary. Put a product on the court that can make games entertaining.

OhCanada-ParticipantBecause Boozer is no longer an efficient scorer, he cant create his own shot and he is one of the worst defenders through all 5 positions in the league. He also takes minutes away from Davis and Randle and creates a log jan at PF. It almost seems like a under the table tank job either that or just bad decision making. They must have been able to do better then Lin and Boozer. Cmon Lakers.

llperezLakers tried to resign pau and went hard after melo. And the answer was no, it turned out they couldn’t do better this offseason. Instead of overpaying non all-stars like some teams did, they have added 1 and 2 year contracts while recouping a draft pick. Not a good offseason, but they didn’t make dumb decisions once they missed out on elite talent.
as for boozer, he is getting paid 3 mill for one season and will help. I know he sucks for 16 mill, but 3 with no oigations beyond this year, that’s a no lose situation. Randle’s development won’t get hindered. They will play him and develop him and who cares if boozer or Ed Davis miss out on some minutes because of it.
Again, lakers don’t have a first next year outside of a top 5 and considering they just stunk it up and still picked 7th and now have Kobe coming back, Im not relying on getting a top 5. Might as well put a product out there that will try and compete. Sorry I don’t view boozer as the anti Christ that will single handily set randle back and destroy the awesome chemistry that won 27 games last year.

Mr. HookShotParticipantExcept maybe for the contracts handed out to Nick Young (4 yrs/$21.5 million) and Jordan Hill (2 yrs/$18 million). Teams that don’t have a shot for a championship should save their (long-term) cap space for a major signing next year, especially when you’re the Lakers who tend to attract top free agents.
