mixtape2003ParticipantI was wondering what everybody thoughts on Dirk’s pay cut of 3 years 25 million, he made 22 million this past season and got max offers from Houston and LA.
At first I was thinking why after the past 3 offseason the Mavs have failed to land a superstar to pair with Dirk would he not go to a team like Houston and have a chance at a ring . Parson is nice put at the contract they gave him a lil too high but they will be a team to watch for in the West if they can get on a run going into the playoffs. Dirk is showing true loyalty and patience and respect him for that. What is everybody opinion on Dirk, should he have took the pay cut or took more money and play for Houston a contender or another team?

Hacker90Participantcould have gone either way, but he’s stayed loyal to Dallas which you don’t see too often. He’s won a championship and been to two finals with Dallas. If Dallas never won in 2010, I could see him leaving to chase a championship but that isn’t the case. Dirk’s just a loyal dude.

NeggedNoelSaricdirk will have a long career based on his skill set alone if bonner is still around dirk will to.
He loves dallas and his relationship with hou I think they will still try to add another player he has made a lot of money his career and after he retires he has a front office job in dallas if he wants it or a scout job.they could have waited to sign dirk and went after Bledsoe yeah they might of had to over pay but why not you already overpayed for parsos but im hearing their taking devin harris and going forward.
Tyson
dirk
parson
monta
Bledsoewould have been a nice starting unit monta and dirk play well together
and I could have seen parson, monta, and Bledsoe pushing it on fast break giving dallas more fast break chances.

GrandmamaParticipantGotta love his loyalty and selflessness that he’s showing by signing this deal. Much respect to Dirk.

ballislyfe25ParticipantLakers fan here, wish Kobe would have done something like this…
Got to respect Dirk for taking the huge discount, it’s great to see star players/star players on the back end of their careers do this. Parsons is an important get for them and should mesh nicely with their core guys. The Mavericks are going to be dangerous in the tough West again, thanks in part to Dirk’s contributions on the court and off the court.
What else could this team use? I was surprised they traded Calderon already, it seemed as though they valued his shooting ability and smart play at the point. Chandler is not going to be the same player he was during the first go round in Dallas, although Brandan Wright should be able to play 15-20 solid minutes behind him.
Overall, you got to love what Dirk has done and the culture he and Mark Cuban have established within that organization.

burgessfourParticipantWhy isn’t Kobe taking a deal like Dirk’s. I guess it’s easy for me to say but if winning is really the only thing that matters why not take a lot less so the Lakers can afford another really good player.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantI think this is a very common opinion but who would they of gotten exactly? They had the money to offer a max contract and nobody wanted to come. So if Kobe takes a pay cut down to say, 15 mil, they have space to go get a guy for 15~ mil. That’s not going to be a championship team, even if they did land Melo and say Gordon Hayward/Chandler Parsons/Eric Bledsoe/Kyle Lowry/Lance Stephenson or whoever they decided to target with that cap space. Whilst I do think Kobe should of taken a pay cut, its clear that the Lakers arent going to be contending for a championship even if they did go get someone any time soon, so I think its perfectly justifiable that Kobe took his money, he deserves it for what he has done for that franchise.

r377ParticipantThey just signed Rashard Lewis for one season. Have also read Marion is very unlikely to be back….

HitsterParticipantDirk does have loyalty and having got his title has no reason to chase rings elsewhere plus he may not want to uproot his wife and young daughter to another state although going to Houston would not have really required this.
Don’t forget he has NBA career earnings of over $200 million gross before you consider all his endorsement deals, add in his new deal and Dirk is a very wealthy guy.
The Rockets will have some cap flexability next summer and have gone for depth more than one marque signing this year.
Kudos also to D-Wade for taking a cut when he could have opted in to a 2 year deal. Tim Duncan also took a much lesser deal in 2012.
Kobe would probably say he took a near $7 million cut for this coming season but he could easily have taken more unless he had wanted a 3 year deal and the Lakers would not give him that.
