2 years, 20 million. Solid short term signing for the Heat.

I’m new to the forum so I don’t know how to embed (link just disappears when I paste it in). It’s posted on yahoo and Woj tweeted as it as well.

Somewhat surprising since he apparently wanted more than 10mil a year but with his injury history I think this is a fair deal.

Side note: Does anyone else think James Ennis will make the roster this year with Lebron, Ray Ray, and James Jones all gone?

I think James Ennis has a great shot of finding his way into the rotation because I doubt the Heat will have the same bunch of quality veterans looking to sign on for cheap. Riley needs to start bringing in some young talent and developing it at this point…Ennis is a good place to start.

Now if Stephenson stays in the East it looks like it will be fairly competitive at the top and also that 8 see will probably be .500 or better for the first time in 4 years. Indiana, Cleveland, Chicago, Miami probably battle it out for the top seed and I see somewhere between 50-56 wins for all 4. Toronto, Washington look to be 5/6 with 48 win potential and Charlotte/Atlanta / New York battle it out for the 7/8 seeds but probably still need 41 wins to make the playoffs.

The bottom 3 Charlotte/Atlanta/ New York could all use Stephenson to give them an edge.Atlanta and Charlotte could sign him outright to 4 years 40 million. New York would have to figure out a sign and trade for Bargnani and include Hardaway, Jr. And/or Schumpert but totally worth doing.

Brooklyn, Detroit,Boston,  Milwaukee, Orlando, Philly all look to be looking at lottery this year. Hoping it plays out that Stephenson stays East and strengthens a lower seed to give a more balanced conference and more exciting 1 st round. It became too obvious last year that it was going to be Miami/ Indiana conference final even though Atlanta surprised by almost knocking off the conference champs Indiana in the first round.

the heat without lebron are not a top 4 team in the east. Considering the fact that now they have worn down wade, and bosh as the number one option. No disrespect to Mario chalmers orr norris cole, but these guys are definetly not starting caliber point guards. Deng is not a guy that can create shots for himself, like lebron could. I think the raptors and even the Wizards have surpassed them. With that being said, there roster is weak. No bench, Bosh will probably hit career highs in points and minutes. Deng fell off, but still a win-win situation for 10 mill a year, i’d take that over rudy gays contract any day.

The Heat are assuring they’ll remain a playoff presence despite of the loss of Lebron. They likely won’t be a championship contender, but I imagine they will remain a top 4 seed in the East.

Deng has missed some time through injuries but never like a whole season – he has 677 regular season games to his name, guys like Iggy, Josh Snith, D12 drafted in the same year have 750 plus so he has probably missed 10% compared to them. I would say mileage is more an issue with Deng, he was drafted young, did his Team GB duties so teams may be reluctant to have him on $10 million odd a year at 32/33 years old.

i think the heat should consider rebuilding. Especially with Bosh’s contract they were better off letting him walk, and going after young players.  e.g ( Bledsoe, IT, Lance,) They coudlve atleast gotten 2 off them for the money they paid Bosh. 23.6 mill a year for a guy that is not even remotely close to leading a team to the promise land. Props to Bosh though he got paid, so did Deng.

Deng refused to sign a 3 year, 30 million extention with the Bulls and now he signs for 2 years and 20 million with the Heat. Looks like a pretty bad decision from his agent but maybe in a couple years he can get another nice contract.

So much for that Miami Heat #1 pick nonsense someone posted a day or two ago.  Solid signing, and I like that it’s only two years.

Miami might be in panic mode, and now they have a team that gets 42 wins, so not contending and not getting high draft picks.

Overpaying for Bosh who will have his shooting percentages go down without LeBron there, getting Deng who has only played 82 games in a season twice, and now they miss out on the free agents next year.

I don’t think anyone in Cleveland is going to notice that Luol Deng is not with the team now.
