wrectorParticipantIt can’t be completed until Thursday, but the Cavs will send Tyler Zeller to the Celtics, Jarret Jack and Sergey Karasev to the Nets, and the Nets will send Marcus Thornton and a future first to the Celtics.
This opens up enough cap space for the Cavs to sign LeBron to a max deal.

Prime TimeParticipantAs a C’s fan, I don’t mind this. We need a center. I understand Zeller isn’t going to be our future at the Center spot, but he can fill in until we find our future center, and then become a solid back up.

IndianaBasketballParticipantWow… Cleveland just opened up another $9 million. They’re not playing in their pursuit of LeBron.
They can now offer him the full max, plus still have some money left over. They have some serious flexibility right now.

UnbiasedObserverParticipantWow, Danny Ainge is a genius. He acquires a true Center. (Something the Celtics don’t have) AND a first round pick?! I guess its true. DA only makes trades when he can rip people off. I dont like Marcus Thornton’s contract, but Zeller and a first rounder is like highway robbery. Cavs better land Lebron or someone in Cleveland is losing their job

IndianaBasketballParticipantDanny Ainge just robbed the Cavs and Nets, plus said F U to Pat Riley.
And all he had to do was take back Thornton’s expiring contract lol. He could use that contract later to acquire another piece.

and it is top 10 protected until 2020, so if they get LeBron then Celts get like the #27-30 pick in 2016. Zeller is good in the minutes he plays.

CavFanPRParticipantI wouldn’t call Danny Ainge a “genius”, sorry. He basically took on Thornton’s 8 million and got Tyler Zeller and a first round that will probably be in the late teens, early 20’s for doing us a favor. He wins that trade obviously but come on, a genius?

UnbiasedObserverParticipantI would be upset too man. Cleveland got hosed, especially if they don’t land Lebron, and even if they do. Cavs are NOT and I repeat NOT championship contenders

benny15ParticipantHe took on an expiring contract to acquire a young serviceable center and 1st rounder. If it was an unprotected pick, then that could be a lotto pick still. And the cost of it all? Basically a trade exception that would have expired next week.

CanadianGMParticipantI don’t see how giving up Zeller who was a first round pick, S Karasev who was last years first round pick and a future first round pick just to move one 6.3 million dollar salary is a good deal for the Cavs. They must have some assurance that they are getting Lebron and he is bringing a crew of veteran minimum guys like Ray Allen, Chris Andersen, Mike Miller and James Jones. I don’t see any other reason for them to move so many first round assets for nothing.
I have never heard of a trade involving three first round picks to move one 6.3 million dollar salary. If true, there is no way NY moves Bargnani (12 million) or Stoudemire (23.5 million) to Philly by including just Iman Shumpert. There must be picks coming back to Cleveland because something doesn’t add up.

morestealsthanscoresParticipantWow- do the Cavs know something we don’t? Because if they don’t get LeBron, they’re going to look very, very silly giving up three assets (two youngsters and a 1st) for nothing. Houston have deals ready to go for Lin, but don’t need to pull the trigger til they get a yes- so the Cavs are either jumping the gun, or have had some good news…!

SportsNinjaParticipantI would hope they know many things about their team that we don’t. . .but the last time we said that it was because they drafted Bennett.

IndianaBasketballParticipantEven after signing LeBron to a max salary starting at $20.7 million, they’ll still have about $4-5 million left to sign another player.
Would make sense for them to go after Ray Allen.

treytalkssports.comParticipantOP – the first round pick going to the Celtics is from the Cavs, not Nets. The Celtics have all of the Nets first round picks forever already.
That’s 10 first round picks over the next five years.

celtics1982ParticipantThis trade reeks of Cleveland trying to prove something to LeBron. Hence they have a chance at getting him, but nothing is set in stone. This is a lot to give up for a chance, this will only look good if they get LeBron. Still think it takes getting Love in Cleveland for LeBron to sign.
Great trade for the Celtics, was waiting for Danny to pounce after seeing what the Hawks were giving away to clear space. Zeller might not be a true rim protector, but his size alone should help Boston. Last year Zeller was above league in PER. He might get 25 minutes a night for Boston. Thorton is just an expiring deal to me. The first round pick being top 10 protected till 2020, is a little bit disappointing. Was hoping for maybe a top three protected pick. Still no LeBron picks in the teens most likely and with LeBron its likely a late first, not bad Danny. Bigs in the NBA take time to develop, so seeing Zeller as a league average player in his second season is a good sign. That’s why I’m shocked Cleveland just gave him away. I have to think he was the Key for Boston, sure they love the pick, but the chance to get a legit seven footer with upside is huge. Just looking at box scores from last year last 5 games he played 22.4 mins, scored 13.6 points and 7.6 rebounds. In Danny we trust.
PS. I love Boston sports right now. All four major clubs have great GM’s. It’s a pleasure to sit back and watch them work!
