nick5354ParticipantOkay, I know this sounds crazy, but is it?
Cleveland have the option to trade first round picks with the Heat next year. They haven’t used this option yet. I am 90% sure in 2015 the pick is unprotected, in past years it has been top 10 protected.
I had a quick google and found this. http://www.prosportstransactions.com/basketball/DraftTrades/Future/Cavaliers.htm
Can anyone confirm this is true? If not then disregard this forum topic.
So Heat are facing some major problems. They are missing out on valuable free agents with the hold up of Bosh, Wade and LBJ contract talks. What if the worst happens; LBJ decides to come back to Cleveland (this is actually a real possibility now). Maybe Bosh decides there is nothing left in Miami with LBJ gone and decided to pack up and find another contender or team with a better roster.
I see the Heat giving Wade a fat contract, mainly due to his name and good service to the team, but also just to keep at least one of the big three.
Then you are left with Wade, Napier and Cole as your only contracted players.
I think there is a real possibility they fail to attract and sign another star player to play with Wade due to the lengthy process of contract negotiations with LBJ and Bosh, but also the fact that maybe players do not want to play with an aging Wade and only 2 other contracted players
This Heat team was starting to feel like the 2007 Cleveland Cavs with Lebron carrying the team and in all honestly without him would struggle.
So, without Lebron I don’t see them as a contender, they are pushing to get that 8th spot in the East at best. And without Bosh they will be totally and utterly awful I think. With the roster the way it is and the way it could turn out if they leave, I see a top 5 lotto team. Wade is in no shape to bear the scoring burden game in and game out and be a consistent 1st option.
So, who knows, if this does happen, cavs could very well have another top 5 pick and might get the balls fall their way once again and get that #1 pick.
Stranger things have happened.

Check it out. It tells you the details including what’s protected and unprotected. Cavs pick from Heat won’t be unprotected until 2017.

nick5354ParticipantI was under the impression that Cleveland has an option to swap picks. And the swapped pick is unprotected in 2015? Or is this impression totally wrong?

Big_C_KUParticipantNope no swap. Bulls can swap picks with the Cavs as long as it’s not in the lottery.

nick5354ParticipantThanks! Must have been just wrong information on the other article.
Let’s take the focus away from the Cavs pick, and to how bad the Heat could be next year.
No Lebron do you think the heat are a playoff team? and without bosh do you guys think they are a top 5 lotto team?

SwatLakeCityParticipantI think that everything hinges on Lebron. If Lebron leaves, so does Bosh and Wade. I’m not sure where Wade would go, just because I haven’t seen what his offers are. But I would assume the Bulls are not out of question. For Bosh, I think he would go to Houston if Lebron left Miami. I really think that if the Heat lose out retaining Lebron’s services, Riley should just blow everything up and start the rebuilding process over again with the 2015 draft and free agency that year.

CanadianGMParticipantIf Miami loses Lebron and Chris Bosh takes a max offer from Houston, Riley no longer has the option to blow it up and tank, it just blew up! I see them rewarding Wade for his loyalty and giving monster one year contract and gearing up for next offseason with a top 10 pick and cap space. They could probably salvage a few free agents and be mediocre but with them losing there draft pick to Cleveland unless its a top 10 pick, they need to sit this season out and regroup. One year contracts only and time to reach out to NY (Bargnani-12mil), Chicago (Boozer-16.8mil) Cleveland (6.3 mil x 2)Houston (Lin- 15 mil) and pick up some extra picks in next years draft to take on these bad contracts.

NeggedNoelSaricif the big 3 aren’t there in 2017 the cavs will have a chance at a number 1 pick
they also will have a high pick come 2017 from the grizz because even though that’s my team how long can that core sustain ?cavs will be known as the team that milked the draft lottery.
if Anthony bennet pans out to anything smh its even more ridiculous0 - Posted on: Sun, 07/06/2014 - 4:30am #932268
