machu46ParticipantVia tweets from Sam Amick, Chris Broussard, and Marc Stein, the Milwaukee Bucks will send Brooklyn two 2nd round picks for Jason Kidd. One in 2015, and one in 2019.

machu46ParticipantUpdate: the 2015 pick is the one that Brooklyn traded to Milwaukee, so Brooklyn basically gets their own pick back plus a 2019 2nd rounder.

Jester87ParticipantI’d love to ask Larry Drew what does he think about Buck’s new owners.

machu46ParticipantI don’t think it’s really surprising that new ownership wants to bring in a new coach, especially considering the old one led a team with playoff aspirations to the worst record in the NBA. He was expected to be fired soon anyways.

Jester87ParticipantIt’s totally fair, it’s just the way they did it. They told nothing to Larry Drew. He found out the same way we did. And it’s even worse because, as you said, it’s totally fine for a new ownership to hire new staff, so they could have at least told Larry Drew they were going to replace him. Also, Kidd’s behavior was disrepectful towards a colleague.

machu46ParticipantMy guess is that he didn’t know they were going to interview guys yet, but that he pretty much knew he wasn’t coming back this year. If you got a chance to watch the press conference where Milwaukee introduced Jabari, you could tell that Drew’s head was not there at all. I think he knew his days were numbered, just maybe not this numbered.

drpg913ParticipantThis guy is like a child. He has to be one of the most annoing people in the NBA right now. He just did a shitty job coaching the nets who by all accounts are more talented than the Bucks. I know he is friends with the owners but what could he have possibly seen in Jason Kidd last year that made him think that he could coach an up and coming team with this much you, turmoil and inexperience?
0- Posted on: Mon, 06/30/2014 - 5:39am #930167
machu46ParticipantMaybe they like that he made creative adjustments after their awful start, played Pierce at PF like Jabari likely will, and went from being a laughingstock as coach to leading Brooklyn to one of the best records in the NBA once the new year began. That, plus the fact that he apparently was upset by Brooklyn’s lack of long-term vision all seem to make him a solid fit in Milwaukee.

drpg913ParticipantAll those are Valid points but at the same time you don’t spend that money on those player just so you can come out and say that the coach made some strides and improved slightly in a terrible conference. They were bound to get better once they started playing the Eastern conference more everybody was. Everybody who is evaluating the eastern conference teams as being "good" needs to put that in perspective. Kidd did some "creative" things with the roster after the all-star break last year but that doesn’t mean you should be president of basketball operations all of a sudden.

GrandmamaParticipantWhy? He’s clashed with their front office. And the Bucks have a brighter future than the Nets. The Nets have traded all their picks, have zero young guys to build around, have a very old and aging team. The Bucks have Parker, Henson, Sanders, Illysova, Giannis, Knight. Bucks have a much brighter future, and I think Kidd realizes that.

RUDEBOY_Participantevery place kidd left as a player and now coach,he ticked off alot of people when he left….
with kidd gone, maybe the nets can wash their hands with the other major disappointing signing they made last season..letting pierce walk and trading kg,who still might bring them a draft pick…

machu46ParticipantBetween the fact that KG will dictate where he goes if traded and the fact that he’s incredibly washed up and didn’t really do much last year, I doubt Brooklyn is able to get more than a 2nd round pick from a contender for him.

doubledribblerParticipantI loved watching Jason Kidd as a player, but he has just never grown up. Off the court the guy is a jerk. He had a decent year when you consider the decline of some of his players and injuries to Lopez, especially for year one, but I don’t think you are in a great position to make demands like this when you haven’t done anything and have only done it for a year. He better hope he does well with the Bucks or he may never land another job.
As for the owners of the Bucks, they are likely scum as well. It proves that class cannot be bought. All the money and resources they have and they don’t have enough class to say anything to the current coach and staff.

This is a moronic statement. The Bucks owners received permission from the Nets to talk to Jason Kidd. Now if you want to talk about Kidd abandoning the Nets, because he didn’t get his way you may have a point. However, the owners went about their process correctly within the rules provided by the NBA. They owed Larry Drew nothing. This is a business, and they informed him once the trade went through that his services are no longer needed. That is how business works.

doubledribblerParticipantI am moronic because I believe in being upfront with employees and treated people like respect? No one owes him anything, but sometimes you take a little time to do things just as a sign of goodwill. I don’t think anyone should literally be the last to know that they are out of a job. When I say everyone, Drew is probably hearing about the reports at the same time as random people that have absolutely nothing to do with Bucks basketball. That is bad business, but you are likely one of those people that throws a fit if a player does one thing and then ignores if when the owner does the exact same.

Actually not at all. Players can leave and go where they please .If you have earned the right for free agency, then go where to whichever team, situation, city is the best fit for you. I actually wish it was a free market system where players could go where they please easier. No one should be protecting these owners from themselves. Everyone complains about bloated salaries, well it takes someone writing the checks to make those salaries occur.
And I definitely agree with you on the point of treating employees with respect. However, not discussing personel matters with Larry Drew is their right as owners. Once they decided to move on, he was notified. We have no idea when or how he was notified, but the two owners have been in the business world for many years. They ran a hedge fund out of New York; and I am pretty sure they did their due dilligence before making the decision.
My point was you questioned the owners character for making a personel move that was completely within their rights as owners. They went about speaking with Jason Kidd in the correct way, and provided assets to hire him away from Brooklyn. I am not sure how that makes them "shady."

i’m jus so offendedParticipantLarry Drew is not a top notch head coach. Kidd has potential and a name. F*** Larry Drew’s feelings, he’s a grown man and will find other employment. In the famous words of Stringer Bell, "It’s not personal. Just business." And how about the Bucks? To begin the season, it looked like they might be headed out the door. Now, they sold $550mil, will eventually get a new stadium, the Greek Freak turned out to be an incredible pick and now they bring in Jabari and J Kidd. Quite a turn around if you ask me.

drpg913ParticipantAll the stringer bell quotes are cute but you need to be a professional. You don’t let a guy go and not tell him. He can’t find out on the ESPN sports ticker like the rest of us. You have to give him some sort of respect. Not to mention that the owner and Jason Kidd were probably negotiating this before the nets gave him permission to talk to the Bucks.
There is always a right way of doing things and a wrong way. I believe the Bucks handled this the wrong way.

machu46ParticipantYou can say what you want about how this was handled, but this move sends a strong message from Milwaukee. The new owners mean business. This isn’t the same old Bucks that Herb Kohl controlled. They’re going to aggressively try to turn things around. If Kidd turns out to be the coach that some believe he will be, this move will have been worth it and then some, and the timing of doing this right before free agency is perfect. Once Melo starts meeting with other teams and whatnot, people will start to forget about this, and at the same time, Jason Kidd is much more likely to get free agents to consider playing in Milwaukee than Larry fucking Drew.

WhodunitParticipantThat the Owners have no allegiance or the decency to notify their staff of change? That they’re gonna do whatever they want without consulting their Bball ppl? That Kidd could fing himself in this position sometime in the future if he loses favor with the owners, what comes around goes around. Im sure there is a some instability and insecurity all along the organizations front office now because of what the owners did. These new owners might be seen as heartless bullies now.
Rick Carlisle, is the Coaches Union head, and they say he’s a coaches coach type of guy. He and the other coaches might blackball Kidd for going after another coaches job without the decency of personal notification. Kidd might be hated by the other coaches and GM’s now for this. His reputation takes a big hit. Basketball-wise, Kidd is probably best able to mentor a young PG to be better, that may mean a better Brandon Knight next year.
It just seems real snake-like to go after the job of another colleague without their permission/blessing. Im sure his colleagues have taken notice. If it doens’t work out here, will Kidd be given another shot based off of his antics in getting this one?

machu46ParticipantLarry Drew knew his job was in jeopardy. It’s really not nearly as big a deal as the media is making it out to be. He knew he might be fired, and then he found out that he was being replaced and would in fact be fired.
Nobody is surprised that the coach that led a team with playoff aspirations to the worst record in the NBA was fired by a group of new owners that wanted to bring in new personnel. A coach is generally fired if either of those two scenarios take place.
In this case, both of them occurred, and the owners told Larry Drew that his job was not secure.

WhodunitParticipantFrom Grantland article by Lowe
"But multiple sources insist the maneuvering started during the fraught months of December and January, and that Kidd did not open the game by asking for the top front-office job. Kidd during that period approached ownership with concerns about King’s job performance, sources say — King’s commitment, leadership, and vision for the future. Kidd suggested the organization might hire an outsider for a front-office job above King, sources say. Kidd even wondered if ownership had a basketball guy in Russia who might come to Brooklyn and take on a more activist role above King.
Kidd did not pitch himself for the job — not at first, anyway. Those initial discussions went nowhere, though not everyone involved agrees on the timing and tenor of those talks. King is well liked in Brooklyn, and has followed ownership edicts in dealing away just about every future asset possible to win immediately. The Bucks sought permission to talk to Kidd earlier this month, presumably about their head coaching job, and when the Nets were slow to respond, Kidd and his team began agitating for Kidd himself to assume the double perch, sources say."
Seriously tho, how the hell does billy king still have a job. His lips must be made out of pure heavenlyness for purposes of kissing below the waist. No one would have traded all that he traded to get a washed up KG and Pierce last year. He’s definitely one of the worst GM’s of all time.

He just did the #1 rule coaches aren’t supposed to do for coaches looking for a job and that is you never pursue a job that a coach still has. druneave3ParticipantTeams are pissed and are going to be very reluctant to make deals or help out Milwaukee in any way whatsoever after these shady dealings.
I hope Brooklyn files for tampering and Adam Silver continue’s his no nonsense approach and somehow finds away to punish Milwaukee for this.
Also, did Jason Kidd really improve as a coach or did Brooklyn (old but talented) simply gets wins against a pathetic Eastern Conference as the season went on?

machu46Participant1. I don’t think GMs usually go into trades trying to figure out how they can help out the other team, and I really don’t think that firing Larry Drew is going to have that large of ramifications around the league. I also think there’s a decent chance that when all the news finally comes out from Milwaukee’s side, they’ll explain the fact that Larry Drew knew that his job was in jeopardy the whole time, and that the new owners had not yet committed to him to be their coach moving forwards, just like Atlanta did not commit to him last year when they interviewed Mike Budenholzer while Drew was still under contract as their coach.
2. Brooklyn has already stated that they will not be pressing any tampering charges. Most likely, they have no proof at all that any tampering occurred. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have accepted just two 2nd round picks (both of which could very well end up being late 2nd round picks) for Kidd. They would have held out for a 1st round pick if they had any leverage over Milwaukee.
3. The Nets were 10-21 and dealt with Brook Lopez and AK47 both being injured for the majority of the year, Kevin Garnett struggling to stay on the court, and Paul Pierce and Deron Williams both looking like they were in their 40s. Kidd made the adjustment to move Pierce to PF and to take the ball out of Deron Williams’ hands and put it in Livingston’s hands, and then made adjustments to the lineup again in the playoffs to swing the momentum in their favor. Between that and the Nets players all talking about how much he improved as the year goes on both seem to indicate that he grew a lot as a coach last year.

machu46Participant1. I don’t think GMs usually go into trades trying to figure out how they can help out the other team, and I really don’t think that firing Larry Drew is going to have that large of ramifications around the league. druneave3ParticipantGood points about the actual coaching aspect.
I just saw a report that execs. around the league are pretty upset with how they handled everything. That could change with the more info that comes out but all indications right now are that they didn’t follow protocol. I wasn’t saying help them w trades, just helping them in any general way.
Brooklyn did have leverage with Milwaukee. Was there another team that was Kidd was friends with the owner who happened to be offering him the title President of Basketall Operations/Head Coach. If so, that is even more leverage to hold out for a 1st round pick. I understand they just wanted this situation to be over with but not getting that 1st is stupid.

thunderjerkParticipantNot a fan at all about how the new ownership treated Larry Drew. That’s ridiculous.

gbmantisParticipantThe bucks are still in the early stages of their rebuild. They aren’t going to get big name free agents, the only way they can build a contender is through the draft. No way in hell they are giving up a first rounder for a coach.

Lotto StudParticipantI lie to you all not, I wanted Mayo’s bad contract in return for Kidd. I look at it this way, KG is out the door and Pierce is soon to follow, so why not take the gamble on a younger player even though he’s slowly fading. Seems to me that picking up bad contracts wouldn’t mean anything to Prokhorov anyway, because all he wants to do is stack the roster.

machu46ParticipantPlayers can not be traded in a deal for a coach. If they could, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett would be on the Clippers instead of the Nets.
