r377ParticipantWhile watching the draft, they showed the Spurs team and salaries. They said they have about $9 mill to play with in the offseason. Mills, Bonner and Diaw are not signed and included in this yet.
Who do you think they will target ? With a great coach and organization you would think there would be quite a few players wanting to go to San Antonio.
I think they might target a big and/or a 3pt shooter SG or SF to backup Leonard.
Gortart – not sure if they can afford him.
Frye and Hawes. Would provide a big and some 3 point shooting to come off the bench.
Chris Anderson and Jermaine O’Neal – vets who they could get cheap to come off the bench in limited mins. O’Neal with injury history did quite well for GS this season.
Okafor – remember him ? would be a risky choice but if they could get him cheap might be worth the risk.
Gasol and Bosh – both very unlikely to be affordable but if they want to sacrifice $ for a ring there would be no better place.
JOSH MCROBERTS – here is my choice. He plays hard and is a good passer, exactly suiting the Spurs and Coach Pop. Depending on $$ i think he would be a great addition to the spurs.
Other cheap guys forgotten about who could contribute: Kris Humpries, Drew Gooden, Jason Smith, Elton Brand, Kenyon Martin
Small forwards vets who could back up Leonard: Paul Pierce, Matrix, Marvin Williams, Mike Miller, Caron Butler, Wes Johnson.
Other forgotten stars who could come cheap and if healthy could contribute. Mickael Pietrus (remember his 3 ball from the Magic) Andreas Nocoini has hinted he would return to the NBA to take a small role and play for a contender.
Francisco Garcia. Good teammate, plays defence and can hit the three. Would be another good one for the spurs.

llperezI think their targets will be diaw and mills. Possibly some cheaper guys to fill a spot or two but realistically they already have a deep well rounded team and just added a solid rookie in Anderson to the mix. Doubt they are gonna go hard after any free agents from other teams.

doubledribblerParticipantI had never thought of McRoberts, but he is a nice replacement for Diaw if he decides not to come back or wants too much money. Based on your list I would look hard at him and Marion. Gasol would be high on my list too. I don’t think he is going to ask for as much as most people think. My only concern is if San Antonio will have enough minutes with Gasol, Splitter and Duncan when another team goes small at the 4.
There are no longterm solutions for the Spurs in free agency right now in my opinion, just stop gaps. They probably lose Mills, but Joseph was the backup the year before so who knows if he just goes back to that role. Overall they seem to be in great shape, especially when you consider some teams just want to keep their stars together. The Spurs are only looking for a role player or two.

MasterOfNothingParticipantthat they sign the new swede from Bologna, Viktor Gaddefors, who will play with them in summer league. Smart player with a good stroke and good defence. 6’8, 210 SF. Could fit in nice there.
Give me more swedes in the nba! 🙂
