There’s no doubt the Suns are absolutely loaded with young talent – Bledsoe, Dragic, the Morris twins, Plumlee, Len, Warren, Ennis, and are owned 2 possible first round picks next year – (the Lakers top 5 protected and Mini top 12 protected).

They’ll re-up Bledsoe at any cost (so they say), but my question is, if they actually were able to sign Lebron/Mello and let’s assume Bledsoe gets say 12mil or more per (Dallas is after him and so could the Raptors (depending on what Lowry does, how will they be able keep any of their young core of players without their salary structure looking like the Nets? Dragic is an UFA after this coming year (2014-15), as are both Morris brothers restricted FAs.  To get the cap space they need to bring in 2 max deals, they only need to dump Beasley at 6mil and Green at 3.5mil which can be easily achived by offering Len or picks.

There’s no doubt if Lebron/Mello sign with the Suns they’ll likely win the next 5 titles, but what kind of surrounding cast could they afford even going into the tax? Potentially, the team could be Mello/Lebron/Bledsoe after 1 year with a bunch of 2nd/3rd year guys (if they don’t re-up the Morris twins) having the same type talent issues the Heat have.

In addition, it’s only fair to assume that the 2 first round picks they’re due likely won’t be coming next year as Mini will be awful after Love is gone (top 12 protected) and the Lakers very well could be ahead of the Sixers (top 5 protected).  Their owner Robert Sarver is willing to go into the tax, but is really willing to go above say 75 million and have a tax bill of 30 million plus?  Can I get your thoughts about what the roster will look like after 2015 if in fact Lebron AND Carmello actually sign with the Suns for max deals?  It seems too good to be true for Phoenix… What am I missing?

Just curious, why am I getting such negative feedback on my post when my original  was nothing more than a response to Adrian Woj’s article, who’s a very well respected as an NBA writter.  Is it becacuse people read my post without the reading the article?  I don’t get it, the next post down has the link.

"There’s no doubt if Lebron/Mello sign with the Suns they’ll likely win the next 5 titles."  With Plumlee and Len as your 2 bigs???  Gimee a friggin break.  Suns have lots of young, UNPROVEN talent.  But saying they’d win 5 straight titles bringing in Melo and Lebron is absolutely ludicrous.

First, you’re neglecting to mention a team that won 48 games in the West last year.  In addition, you failed to mention the Morris twins, Dragic and Eric Bledsoe who made up one of the best guard tandems in the NBA.  In addition they have 2 nice rookies coming in in Ennis and Warren.  I was simply responding to an article posted by a highly respect sports journalist on yahoo sports.  Who could beat the Suns if they gave up nothing to add Lebron and Mello, and yes for the next 5 years. Carmello just turned 30 and Lebron is 29 – thye’re both hitting their prime.  How could they not win titles the next 5 years as they’re both in their prime with tons of young talent around them and stock piles of draft picks. If you took the time to read the article and evaluate the Suns roster instead of focusing on 1 assumption I made, you might change your mind.

Unrelated to main topic of the post, b/c it seems everyone agrees it is so ridiculous we need to wait to see something happen before we even discuss something like this.

But I am curious, why does everyone just skip over Archie Goodwin when talking about unproven young talent on the Suns (not to mention NBA)? I understand he did next to nothing last year, same as Len,  but he was the youngest American drafted and was 18 almost all of the season.  I refuse to make any predictions about him, but w/ his athleticism, potential and age it makes no sense to me people just don’t even mention him, but consistently mention Alex Len…makes no sense to me.  The guy is barely 19, I would be shocked if he doesn’t carve out and find his niche in this league at some point.

Now I realize the drafting of Warren and Ennis greatly hurt his potential ability to make an impact.  I guess what i am saying is this guy is completely disrespected by people who laud over age/potential…and I am by no means a Sun or Kentucky fan.  Barkely and Drake are the closest I get to rooting for either team. aha

The best player plays the most minutes. Fair is fair. Warren and Ennis dont impede Goodwins potential growth. Goodwin does not have the playmaking abillity or natural court vision to be a successful PG at this point. I think he is a SG. Each player plays a different role. Phoenix is super deep with talent. They have youth everywhere and are two positions deep with starter type talent or star potential at every position. Great job!

I think you answered your own question. Despite his age, most NBA fans have a very difficult time identifing with the 29th pick in the previous year’s draft who not only played 10 minutes a game, even though he shot 45% , but was projected as a mid-second round pick in a terrible draft class.  Obviously, guys like Len, Warren and Ennis who got a great deal of pre-draft attention are more likely to be on the minds of the average NBA fan.  But I think you bring up a good point.  There are certainly very young players like Archie Goodwin who has elite athleticism and quickness to someday develope into legitimate NBA shooting guard.  Obviously the Suns thought enough value was there as they picked him up in the first round, thereby giving him guaranteed money and a roster space for at minimum 2 years.  As for his future, who knows, but hopefully he gets a chance to show some of those skills that brought on the Tyreke comparisons.  Archie Goodwin might be the ideal candidate to give the NBA justification to raise the draft age limit to 20 or 21.  Another year or 2 on the college level could of really helped such a young guy not only physically develope his game, but also emtionally mature.  There’s not many 18 year old that can handle the pressures of the media, the fans and the NBA, especially one whose skills are under-developed.

Idk if it’s possible, but why not give LBJ what no other player in NBA history has had? A piece of ownership of the franchise.

I’m pretty certain it’s against the rules for an active player to have ownership in a franshise, however the same rules don’t apply to a coach (remember Pitino).  Shaq could of been part-owner along time ago of a franschise, but only after he retired got a piece of the Kings.  It was the same for Jordan I believe.

Lebron won’t sign with the Suns. Melo has plans to meet with 3 teams, none of those being the Suns. It’s a pointless topic if you really think this will happen.

I only posted it as a response to Adrian Woj. article on yahoo sports (which I should of linked b/4 my post).  In a crazy way, as long as Bosh/Lebron/Wade/Haslem haven’t committed to one another, it’s certainly a possibility.  Lebon and Mello have always dreamed of playing together.  I could see Bosh going to Dallas and Wade staying with the Heat or moving on to Chicago if they break things up…. who knows at this point, but I liked the article so I posted it.  We’re about to hit  the most fun part of the NBA off-season so enjoy….

We won 48 games last season when our top 5 draft pick hardly played, with another couple of young guys coming in we’ll have real depth without having a major star. We may not have such a good year as other teams figure us out but we should be above .500 again and be fun to watch.

Also Beasley is now with the Heat and a proud owner of a 2014 Eastern Conference Championship ring.
