BallinAIstyleParticipantI could be wrong but I was under the impression that they don’t actually have to meet the minimum cap. I know there has been a lot of postings about what they can do in terms of spending the money they are required to but I thought if a team ends up under the minimal cap they just have to pay the difference to the league. Now I agree why just give away money, but on the other hand if your really serious about tanking again this upcoming year then why not?
And while I’m here just like to say I like the Embiid pick..don’t get me wrong. But I am pretty sure Hinkie and Brown set this out to be a 3-4 year rebuilding process. Are any other 76ers fans getting the feeling that it may be even longer? I mean WOW..the first time all our guys may have the chance to play together is 2015-2016..how is such a young group suppose to build any kind of championship calibear chemistry? That being said, I am a fan of what appears to be their thought process. I know Hinkie wanted Wiggins but instead didn’t sell the farm and gathered up some nice assests along the front court. And in my opinion that is the way to go. It is much harder these days to find quality big men, especially that are as athletic as Noel, Embiid, and Saric. Also next years drafts has some real quality guards and SFs if they chose to not address those needs via FA.
In regards to FA though, I don’t think there is any chance Monroe is a 76er. How can we even justify that need at the moment? I do like the idea of Parsons, Haywood, or Stephenson. Unfortunately I just don’t think Hinkie wants to get better right now so those are all probably long shots as well.
Most likely scenario is the 76ers tanking again, grabbing a top 3 pick, and spending next FA season and even more so the one following.

Neggedpastoronly way I do this Is for Mirotic draft rights and I would be happy then to partner in any 3 way trade they would like to try.
he can stay over a few more years that seems to be the trend for the sixers.

tuck243ParticipantHinkie have showed he would do anything for a draft pick, so this wouldn’t be far fetched for a first rounder IMO…

burgessfourParticipantbut they’ll likely get to the minimum salary number just for "appearances" sake. Hinkie did say this was going to be a long process when he was hired 13 months ago. I admit I like the approach, but as I said on another thread on this site I really think they need to show some improvement in the 2015/2016 season. No doubt they’re heading for another top 5 pick next year.

Neggedpastoryeah I don’t think their going after big names or into spending big $$$ I think they are still in stock piling asset mode
and next off season a lot of teams will be looking to clear cap space and I think he knows that so I think he takes some contracts from team this summer but also maintains the flexibility to be a salary dump destination next offseason as well.
having cap and taking bad contracts will net picks and young players or sometimes teams even give away players ( derrick Williams, hasheem, bledsoe ,collision, micheal beasly, tyson, lowry, asik, turner, hawes, deng) for nothing in return pennies on the dollar.
by the time the sixers are ready to pay for a free agent they should know what their looking for and it should be an addition maybe even a great one but not a main attraction.

Memphis MadnessParticipantWhat would be sad if they go out and draft all these guys, then can’t afford to sign them.
How many guys can they pay? MCW, Noel, Embiid, and Saric. Sometimes you can’t really pay more than four guys. You pay those four, then your top pick in 2015, and maybe Tony Wroten, but that might be about it.

220ParticipantIf they all develop at some point they’ll have to make some hard choices and a few guys won’t move on with them. It will be the same way things are with the Thunder only that Philadelphia is a bigger market and maybe they’ll be willing to spend some more to keep a few more core guys.

NeggedNoelSaricif their own your team now and you have rights to them you can sign them especially young euro players they dream of the nba money.
and extreme example of paying for your players are the Brooklyn nets another example was denever a couple years ago where players where starting and some where benched and some where injured making around 5 million a year or higher.
im not saying that’s the goal but that’s the least of our problems right now their play will determine their salaries along with the market value. injurys, accolades, talent , scarcity ,and just the weird economy of the nba well set what they are paid. I let the gm and ,accounting staff handle that ( yes im a honorary front office member now ) we need to get talent and win bu useing the cap space as a weapon to commit highway robbery on teams that are desperate.

burgessfourParticipantif their biggest problem down the road is they can’t pay everyone than most of the gambles will have paid off because they’re really good players. We’ll be happy with a problem like that, but it’s a long way off.
